It’s not suppose to be a perfect portrait. It’s an idea which you and your perfect selves can expand on.

It took me a little while to figure out why it doesn’t look right at the end. The back light comes across as too harsh. Late day sun is softer. The speedlite is too low and burns a bit too bright for this environment. Frankly, I was excited by the title as there have been numerous times where I have lost the sun when I still needed it during a shoot. I wish the solution was better. I am however very good in post so I possibly could fix it then.

Front light sucks badly!:) It still looks almost like a direct flash.

I agree it is a clever technique and i am familliar with it. But it does not help if the resulting image does not look like it should. It does not look like lit by the sun. My suggestion is to either use a gel on both flashes or don’t use a gel and adjust WB in post. I usally do the first

The “sun” is not suppose to be right in her face. This is just to simulate having the “sun” behind her to give the picture a little more life. The diffused flash is just to light up her face so it doesn’t become dark thanks to the exposure being set to the background which is brighter, and the diffuser itself makes the face smoother as it evens out the light.

So this is actually a really clever technique if you want to take a sunset portrait without having to rely on the sun.

I agree, the whitebalance is too cold in my taste. Her face looks too blue to be lit by reflected sunlight. Other than that it is a good video with valueable information.

People that moan about resolution and sound quality are more tedious than the same people that got to music videos and start banging on about Justin Beiber. Give it a f**king rest! its free there is no subscription it costs you NOTHING!! if you don’t like it either A- Don’t watch OR B- You produce some film of photographic tips of the quality you’d expect post them and we will then watch it, oh and we want it for free too.
