How to Select the Best Camera Bags – Photography Lessons by Berger Bros Camera

25 Dec

berger-bros.com How do you select the best camera bag for your needs? Yvonne Berger, one of the photography instructors at Berger Bros Camera in Amityville and Syosset Long Island, explains What kind and how many camera bags you will need. Should you have one camera bag or more than one? There answer is that you should have many because there are many different occasions where you will need to have just a small bag for limited camera equipment, while on other occasions you will need a larger bag to carry a lot of different pieces of camera equipment and gadgets. If you’re just going out on a day trip type of shoot you might need one camera and one lens. In that instance Top Loader would be the best choice because it’s small and compact. If, however, you have a lot of equipment, or maybe you’re traveling with a laptop you might need something like a Think Tank bag because it has a lot of different dividers and can hold a lot of different kinds of equipment. If you’re hiking and planning on taking nature photographs and you need to have your arms free then a back pack is an excellent choice. For more information on camera bags go to www.Berger-Bros.com

How to attach and use the shoulder strap with the Think Tank Speed Belt Packs. The Speed Demon, Speed Freak and Speed Racer each include a padded shoulder strap for carrying the pack as a shoulder bag instead of a belt pack. The strap can also be worn with the belt to give additional support while carrying heavy equipment. The easiest answer is to choose the tripod that you will actually use. There are many different factors that go into buying a tripod and you really can’t buy a tripod just by looking at a picture. You should go into your camera store and physically hold the tripod so you can see and feel how it works. Things to Look For When Buying a Tripod: 1. What is it made of? 2. What are you using your tripod for? 3. What type of camera are you putting on the tripod? There are two different types of tripod legs to choose from: 1. A clip leg 2. A twist leg There are two types of tripod heads: 1. Ball Head 2. Hand Tilt Head Some tripods have what is known as a quick release plate which will enable you to quickly remove your camera from the tripod if the photography need arises. Carrying your tripod can sometimes be a pain. That’s why you need to have a bad for your tripod. The thing to remember is that you always want you tripod there when you need it. So, make sure carrying your tripod is not a problem that will keep you from using it. Tripods available at Berger Bros… Giottos Gitzo GorillaPod Manfrotto/Bogen Call

Editing Software Tips For Beginners – Digital Photography Lessons by Berger Bros Camera

19 Nov

www.Berger-Bros.com One of the things that has made digital photography fun is the ability to use editing software to play around and do fun things with your photos. A big question for beginners is what digital editing software to use. Yvonne Berger, one of the instructors at Berger Brothers Camera in Amityville and Syosset Long Island, NY, warns that, for beginners, it is a mistake to go out and buy a whole bunch of software. She explains that a good program to start with (for MAC users) is iPhoto…because it’s very user friendly. However, if you’re on a PC you should start with Picasa. The next level of software would be the program Adobe Photoshop Elements. In fact Yvonne teaches an excellent 4 week course on Photoshop Elements which you can learn more about here: www.berger-bros.com

Free Photography Lessons, Part 3: Exposure, Light & Color

01 Nov

I gladly offer this basic, 5-part series of photography lessons FOR FREE! Our world has become increasingly visual in the way we communicate. We not only take more pictures, we show them, send them and display them to more eyes than ever before. Wouldn’t it be nice to capture and show better pictures? In this series, I get us thinking about… 1. How to tell a story with our photographs by understanding the 4 dimensions associated with the art. 2. The basic elements of “composing” our photographic story. How do we put things in our viewfinders so people get the essence of that moment that inspired us. 3. Understanding exposure, light and color and how they combine to say what we want. 4. How lens choice and operation effects focus and how focus effects what we show in our photos 5. The people in our photographs and the people we are showing them to. Please enjoy these lessons. They’re not meant to be comprehensive and their not meant to be exhaustive or advanced. That doesn’t mean I don’t encourage any questions you might want to post for either me to try to answer or anyone else who comes along. Please, be kind, helpful and enjoy.
