Hi, is the little butterfly clip that fastens the battery draw made of plastic like 3rd party grips (that keep snapping) or metal like i’m hoping and praying it is? This really is deal breaker for me, if it’s plastic might as well buy a 3rd party and when it breaks just buy another, don’t fancy doing that with the exspensive Nik-on version!

@iridiumVIII I must correct you on your pronunciation of the brand name Nikon in the USA. Officially Nikon USA pronounces it ny-kon. If you call Nikon USA for support the answer as ny-kon. Watch their TV commercials. If that’s not enough, I have owned Nikon cameras for 30 years and have met Nikon factory reps who explain that after careful study they found the US version fits the USA English better. It is officially ny-kon in the USA.

Yes it does and it’s one of the main reasons I went with a genuine Nikon grip versus a third party version. An added bonus would be that the rubber is a bit softer and provides excellent grip.

– Well. It’s the Nikon grip and it cost $209 roughly and the battery, Nikon as well was just shy of $60. You can of course purchase third party battery grips and batteries for a fraction of those prices on Amazon. The battery grip does increase the comfort level quite a bit but it also adds weight too. Sometimes if I’m looking reduce weight I’ll remove the battery from the grip and use it that way.

– Good question! You can use the battery grip in the following configurations.
1. Battery in the camera only – battery grip attached
2. Battery in the camera – battery in the grip
3. No battery in the camera – battery in the grip only

– Haha! What’s up cosmo? (Nick-on), technically speaking is the way it’s supposed to be pronounced. Only us westerners really pronounce it (Nyk-on). In comparison it would be like someone from europe or asia pronouncing Chevy (sheh-vee) with a hard CH (checkers) CHevy.
