Everyone seems to think they are wedding photographers these days! The ‘kit lens crew’ that have very little experience, people & posing skills that are still developing and a basic knowledge of camera features. It’s such a serious job to undertake and you owe it to your wedding couple to only step into the wedding game when you have heaps of confidence, experience and PROPER gear, especially if you are charging high.

For general wide angle lens would you recommend sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 – f/3.5 or tokina 11-16mm ?

I know that lens is for Full Frame cameras, so on my D7K.. it would be a 100-300 2.8. Which is great for me. Hopefully this lens will be good for our town’s Independence day parade in July. I think this is the lens I’m going to get for sure. I want to shoot more events this year where I would typically need that focal range. Thanks Dom.

Good emails!
I think I’m going to order that 50 1.8 for my D7000. I’m working on selling my older camera (Nikon D60) and I was going to save up for the Sigma 70-200 2.8, but I’m not sure if I’ll have enough cash in time for an event I’m going to be shooting soon. So I been thinking to get that 70-300… It’s not 2.8.. but it would get the job done however.
Part of me wants to get that Sigma 2.8 though.

Hi Dom nice vid, I have a couple questions. I just started photography not long ago, I have a canon 7d with a 28-135mm lens. I don’t know why but I seem to get a lot of noise on my photos I tried lowering the iso but it only helps a little bit. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to fix it. Also I’m photographing my nephew’s 1st year, could you give me some pointers? Thank You so much!

something about the amount of info each one can pick up, check any modern digital back (the likes that cost £30,000 that you find in hasselblads etc, all CCD
cmos is cheaper to make and can transfer info faster but ccd is where colour is at from what i have been told

why is ccd better than cmos? from what i’ve seen alll the modern cameras use cmos sensor.

renting the top end camera costs me 100pounds for the whole weekend. buying a 1000pound camera… well that is 10 weddings.
if you want to charge low for your wedding photography, charge low for your service but not for your equipment. some brides need to be tought that spending 2000 on flowers, 800 on a cake and 3000 on the church but then only having poor blurry noisey photos… kinda wastes it all. your photos are the only thing they can take away from a wedding

true BUTT people that use a hobbyist like me vs. a top notch pro such as yourself, really dont need another cost thrown in their price. i know, i know pricing weddings low is really frowned upon by pros but shit the reality is for a lot of people, price is a big deal. are they to be denied wedding pictures because of a mega pixel or sensitivity range that they cant even see? i see your point and i truly respect it but its not always the gear right?

I think its really charming that you are doing the videos “live” – that you dont do it like I think 90% would which is first read through all the emails (and look through all the photos of a photo critique) and prepare them selves with what to say e.t.c. I think that is really brave and adds to your character!
Great work Dom!

but you can rent, and again, as i said in the video if you cant afford then rent it and put that on the charge for the wedding
