Drag Racing Remote Camera Destroyed

31 Jan

Come along for the ride as motor sports photographer Mark J. Rebilas has an 000 camera destroyed by an out-of-control top fuel dragster at Auto Club Famoso in Bakersfield, California. Among the gear destroyed was a Nikon D700 with battery grip, a Nikon 400mm 2.8 lens, and a Pocket Wizard Plus receiver. The Manfrotto Magic Arm that the camera was mounted to was the only piece of gear to survive.

The D700 retailed for 2,999 and the lens retails for $9500. He is actually well over the amount he stated. Back then the lens may have been a bit cheaper.

That 400 2.8 is more expensive than $6k, probably something like $8k.

Hey Guy, you can have that cheaper and with pictures. I destroyed my 60 Euro cam under a Tram still filming. But beautiful pictures from the dragstrip.

I would cry if that happened to my camera, and with my most expensive lens it would be @ most $3,890ish.

I can’t believe the manfrotto arm wasn’t damaged. Too bad the final shots from the camera were crappy, if you could pull this off again you should do something sick with the 14-24 haha. Except it’d cost you another body… so please don’t haha.

You forgot to factor in the destroyed 400mm 2.8 lens that was attached to that D700.

So sad to get your prized possesion shreded by a drag racer but I know that a d700 is not worth $11000 so description is a bit wrong but what a nightmare did the driver get done?
