Elevation 3-D ( yt3d:enable=true )

11 Jul

Director Statement As a filmmaker at the forefront of the emerging 3-DIY (Do-it-yourself 3-D) movement, I am striving to bring stereoscopic 3-D to independent micro-budget filmmaking, and show that that the addition of depth is both technically possible and affordable. I made this short to demonstrate that stereoscopic 3-D is more than simply a gimmick. Just like color and sound, the language of depth can be used as a storytelling tool – one more part of the grammar of cinema. Production Notes “Making Elevation” Elevation was produced as a sketchbook assignment through Filmmakers Alliance, a cinema collective based in Los Angeles, and had to follow the following rules: Make a film that is 3 minutes long, has only one line of dialog, uses primary colors, and includes a gun, a religious symbol, and underwear. It was shot on a twinned pair of Canon TX-1 point-and-shoot consumer cameras, using a firmware hack to provide stereoscopic synchronization tools. The post production pipeline consisted of the freeware program Stereo Movie Maker, which was used for alignment and parallax convergence adjustments, and Adobe Premiere which was used for picture and sound editing. The entire project was completed in less than 48 hours – the 3 hour shoot took place on the evening of Wednesday, July 1, 2009, and post production was finished by Friday afternoon, July 3.

yt3d:enable=true Get ready! Two years to go go to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The event was held at Trafalgar Square, and this video is an appearance of Wenlock- the official mascot for the games, as well as Paul Deighton ( Chief executive LOCOG) , Hugh Robertson ( Minsiter for sports, DCMS ), Ralph Higson (Panasonic), Andy Hunt ( Chief executive BOA), Keri-Anne Payne ( Olympic silver medallist, Open water swimmming) and Tim Brabants( Olympic Gold medallist, canoe sprint). The Slingshot Channel now also produces 3D slingshot videos! Here is the first example: www.youtube.com In order to shoot in 3D, a special videocam is needed. The camera presented here is a setup of two HD JVC camcorders, mounted side by side so they record stereoscopic material. The video also shows different glasses, which are needed to view the stereoscopic youtube videos.

Computer animated movie of a rotating four-dimensional hypercube, perspectively projected into 3D as stereoscopic left and right images, to be viewed cross-eyed. The computer animation was performed at Bell Labs in the mid 1960s. This is one the first stereoscopic digital computer animations. The image quality became degraded during the process in which the original 16-mm film was digitized.

Planet Earth in Stereoscopic 3D (yt3d:enable=true)

12 Sep

************* PLEASE RATE 5 STARS ************* This is 2D converted to 3D. The amazing thing is, this isn’t fake at all. I’ll explain: Timeshifting is a technique for converting certain 2D clips to 3D. The main requirements for timeshifted 3D: — the camera must be moving sideways — there must be little to no activity/life occurring onscreen It’s very simple to understand why it works. 3D requires 2 slightly different viewpoints- a left and a right eye perspective. Our eyes are spaced apart by about 2 inches, so to do 3D with a camera you’d take a photo, then step 2 inches to the side, and take another. To achieve 3D by timeshifting a 2D video, find a clip that meets the requirements listed above. Say the camera’s moving left- video frame 1 would serve as the right eye in a stereoscopic photo, and frame 2 or later would the left eye. You could jump to, say, frame 10 or futher if you want a stronger 3D effect in the end. Once you’ve decided how many frames you want the left and right eye spaced apart, you set up two copies of the same clip side by side and delay one of them by that amount of frames. You’ll know which clip to delay because delaying the wrong one will make the 3D effect look very ugly. The effect will last as long as the camera in the video is maintaining its sideways trajectory.
