Leaked photos of DJI Phantom 5 drone with interchangeable lens camera

The DJI Phantom 5 drone is allegedly featured in two newly-leaked images—as well as a few sketches—that claim to reveal details about the unannounced model. The leak comes from Twitter account “OsitaLV,” which also leaked images that allegedly showed the Phantom 5 camera in March. The images in the most recent leak, however, include the full drone, lenses, and controllers.

One of the two newly leaked images (below) shows the same camera featured in the March leak, though with the lens removed and featured at a new angle:

OsitaLV also shared three sketches showing the camera and lenses, one claiming the DJI Phantom 5’s interchangeable lens camera has a 1-inch CMOS sensor. Another sketch claimed four F2.8 lenses will be available: 15mm, 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm. Finally, the second new image shows the complete drone with the same grey body color and dark landing gear visible in the March leak.

OsitaLV previously claimed the Phantom 5 will feature a plastic GPS antenna cover, aluminum shell, and plastic landing gear. In a tweet shared on April 26th, the same Twitter user claimed that DJI has moved the motor cooling holes to the bottom of the drone and added more sealing rings to the battery, effectively making the drone “rainproof.”

Of course, none of this is considered confirmed or official until DJI makes it so, but leaks this substantial are rarely far off the mark. Keep an eye out for the official DJI news in the coming weeks or months—it shouldn’t be long now.

Leaked: GoPro to reveal entry-level ‘HERO’ action cam this week, will cost $200

A major leak earlier today confirmed what rumors have been claiming for over a week: GoPro is preparing to release an entry-level version of its HERO action cam. The new camera—ostensibly just called the GoPro HERO—will feature the same styling as its high-end HERO6 sibling but, thanks to some pared down specs, is allegedly priced between $ 180-$ 200.

According to this leaked PDF courtesy of Nokishita, the GoPro HERO will shoot 1080/60p and 1440/60p video as well as 10MP stills at up to 10fps, can capture timelapse video at 0.5 second intervals, is waterproof to 10m (~33 feet) out of the box, and features a 2-inch touchscreen on the back.

The PDF (which is in French) also specifies that the camera features WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, voice control, and compatibility with GoPro’s one-touch Quik Stories highlight video creation in the GoPro app.

The leak does not cover price or release date; however, Photo Rumors is reporting that the new HERO camera—also seen in the leaked images above—will cost between $ 180 and $ 200, and Nokishita writes that the HERO will be announced on March 30th. If that turns out to be the case, be sure to check in with DPReview this Friday for the official details.

Leaked images confirm Huawei P20 will have a Leica-branded triple-camera

Huawei will launch its new flagship smartphone at a dedicated event in Paris on the 27th of March, and over the past few weeks we have seen a number of rumors indicating the new device will be the first smartphone to feature a triple-lens camera. Now, thanks to a fresh set of leaked images, that rumor is all but confirmed.

Previous rumors indicated that the triple cam setup will offer a total resolution of 40MP and a 5x optical/digital hybrid zoom. Additionally, the front camera will allegedly feature a 24MP resolution.

We still don’t know the exact camera specifications, but the existence of the triple-camera setup has now been pretty much confirmed by a series of very official-looking product renders, which were discovered by Dutch website Telefoon Abonnement on the Chinese social network Weibo.

As you can see from the images above, a fairly-conventional looking dual-camera is joined by a third, separate module, with all cameras aligned vertically on the device’s back plate. There is also a dual-LED flash and the Huawei-typical Leica badge.

According to the teaser images, we should also expect some AI-powered functions from the camera app, and the new model appears to come with an iPhone X-style camera notch at the front. Huawei itself doesn’t appear too concerned about the leaked product images, and has actually published a number of teasers on its Instagram account and other social media.

We’ll be in Paris on the 27th to have a closer look at the new device and its camera for you on launch day, so stay tuned for official details in a few weeks’ time.

Leaked: Tokina to announce Opera 50mm F1.4 FF and FíRIN 20mm F2 FE AF lenses

It seems Tokina is preparing to release two new lenses at CP+, and thanks to some last-minute photo and spec leaks courtesy of Nokishita, we get a peek ahead of schedule. The leaked lenses are the Opera 50mm F1.4 FF for Canon EF and Nikon F mount, and the FíRIN 20mm F2 FE AF for Sony E-Mount.

Tokina Opera 50mm F1.4 FF

According to the leaked specs, the Tokina Opera 50mm F1.4 FF will be dust and weather resistant and features an ultrasonic motor, a focus ring that rotates the same direction as that of a genuine Canon or Nikon lens, and an electromagnetic iris system for Nikon shooters (a first for Tokina).

No pricing info has been leaked, but the Opera 50mm F1.4 FF is allegedly scheduled for announcement on February 28th, and will ship in September of 2018.

Tokina FíRIN 20mm F2 FE AF

Meanwhile, the new Tokina FíRIN 20mm F2 FE AF will replace the FíRIN 20mm F2 FE MF lens released in September of 2016, and judging by the name alone, you can bet the new lens will add autofocus capability to its 1.5-year-old manual focus predecessor.

Leaked specs indicate this lens will be largely unchanged from the 2016 version otherwise. Identical specs include: 13 lens elements in 11 groups, 62mm filter thread, minimum focus of 0.28m, and a 9-blade aperture. Somehow they’ve managed to trim the weight down from 490g to 464g, but we’ll have to wait for official specs to confirm that (and our assumption about the addition of autofocus).

We don’t have any pricing info on this one either, but the new FíRIN 20mm F2 will allegedly be announced officially within 24 hours, and ships at the end of April.

Leaked: Samyang XP 50mm F1.2 EF lens coming soon

Nokishita and CanonWatch have both gotten their hands on some leaked photos of an upcoming Samyang/Rokinon lens that is very intriguing indeed. Meet the unreleased Samyang XP 50mm F1.2 EF.

Based on the moniker, we know that it’s part of Samyang’s manual focus eXtreme Performance series of lenses—the third lens to join the party, after the XP 85mm F1.2 and XP 14mm F2.4 announced in September of 2016. And judging by the “EF” at the end of the name, this one will only be made for the Canon-EF mount as well. Here’s a closer look, courtesy of Nokishita on Twitter:

No word on price or specifications beyond the focal length and max aperture, but Nokishita’s image leaks typically come within 24-48 hours of release, so we expect this lens to make its official debut in the next day or two.

For comparisons’ sake, the XP 85mm F1.2 goes for $ 900, while the XP 14mm F2.4 retails for $ 1,000.

Photos of Tamron 70-210mm F4 lens leaked, announcement February 22nd

Tamron Japan shared this teaser on Instagram, shortly after leaked images of the 70-210mm F4 Di VC USD appeared online.

Tamron is preparing to release a couple of new lenses, teasing one (zoom?) lens last week, and now another, on the Tamron Japan Instagram account. Fortunately, unlike the speculation around last week’s teaser, we pretty much know what Tamron is hinting at in the image above.

That’s because, shortly before this teaser went up, a slew of leaked images of the upcoming Tamron 70-210mm F4 Di VC USD lens popped up online, leaving little doubt that this is the zoom depicted in the contrasty shot above. CanonWatch and Nokishita both got their hands on several leaked shots—CW mostly lifestyle images, Nokishita product shots.

As the teaser confirms, this new lens—very likely the 70-210mm F4 seen in the gallery—will be officially announced in three days time, on February 22nd, 2018. We expect the other Tamron lens teased last week to be announced at the same time.

Leaked: Sigma preparing to release 14-24mm F2.8 DG HSM Art lens

Earlier today, Sigma sprang a pretty major leak ahead of the CP+ show in Japan. According to leaked images from Nokishita, Sigma is planning to add a 14-24mm F2.8 DG HSM Art lens to its ultra-wide angle lineup very soon. In fact, it looks like Nokishita got their hands on all of Sigma’s standard product shots.

You can scroll through them above, and see some rumored specifications below:

  • Mount: Canon, Nikon, Sigma
  • Lens construction: 17 elements in 11 groups
  • Number of diaphragm blades: 9 (circular aperture)
  • Maximum photographing magnification: 1: 5.4
  • Size (Sigma mount): ? 96.4mm x 135.1mm
  • Weight (Sigma mount): 1,150g

Of course, this isn’t the Sigma 70-200mm that’s been rumored (and hoped for) since before the Photo Plus Expo, but it does make for an impressive lineup of ultra-wides in the much-beloved Sigma Art series.

If previous experience is anything to judge by, Nokishita’s product photo leaks usually come just days (sometimes less than 24 hours) before an official announcement, so we’re expecting this lens to make landfall very soon.

Reuters photographers banned from Olympic opening ceremony over leaked photos

Reuters is in hot water with the IOC and PyeongChang Winter Olympics organizing committee after the news agency broadcast several images of the olympic cauldron being lit during an opening ceremony rehearsal this past weekend. The lapse—highly uncharacteristic for a major news agency with decades of experience respecting image embargoes—has gotten Reuters banned from covering the Opening Ceremony.

The news broke through the Yonhap News Agency, who is reporting that Reuters pulled the photos after the IOC and PyeongChang organizers complained.

However, as the damage had already been done, the IOC has decided to punish Reuters all the same, revoking the agency’s media accreditation for the Opening Ceremony on Friday, February 9th. Furthermore, the Reuters photographer who took the leaked photos has been banned from covering the games altogether.

The PyeongChang organizing committee wants to make it clear that violating Olympic media embargoes is being taken very seriously, telling Yonhap that it will “enforce strong penalties on media companies and their reporters who disobey embargoes of the opening and closing ceremonies.”

DJI Mavic Air leaked ahead of announcement, looks like a Spark-Mavic hybrid

We’re less than 24 hours away from the drone announcement DJI started teasing last week, and it looks like our guesses based on the tagline “adventure unfolds” were spot on: it’s going to be a folding drone. More specifically, a followup to the folding DJI Mavic Pro… but not the followup most of us expected.

According to Drone DJ, who got ahold of a treasure trove of leaked specs and photographs of the upcoming drone, DJI is preparing to announce the DJI Mavic Air: a drone that looks like a hybrid between the DJI Spark and DJI Mavic Pro.

If these leaked photos and specifications are accurate, the Mavic Air will put Mavic-level hardware—a 3-axis gimbal, 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, 4K 60p video capture, obstacle-avoidance sensors on the front, back, and bottom—into a body that looks very much like the diminutive DJI Spark. The upside is that 4K 60p video capture that the Mavic Pro and even Mavic Pro Platium has been missing; the downside is that the smaller body means even less flight time, which is rumored at just 21 minutes. The drone is also purported to have a 32MP panorama mode.

  • 1/2.3 CMOS sensor and new Image Processor
  • 32-megapixel panorama mode
  • 4K/60p video capture
  • 3-axis gimbal
  • Four Foldable Legs
  • Obstacle-avoidance sensors in the front, back, and bottom
  • Equipped with aVisual Positioning System for better control, hovering and indoor flying
  • Gesture control
  • 21-minute flight time (9 minutes less than the Mavic Pro Platium)
  • It will be available in at least three colors: white, black and red
  • Compatible with DJI Goggles

We won’t be able to confirm these specs until the official announcement tomorrow morning (DJI is streaming the event live at 10am Eastern), but leaks this major and this close to the official reveal are rarely faked. Which leaves us feeling a bit… “meh” about the whole thing.

With Autel Robotics releasing its Mavic Pro competitor Autel EVO at CES, and the original Mavic Pro now nearly a year and a half old, we were hoping for a true Mavic Pro replacement. The Mavic Air seems, instead, like a DJI Spark upgrade… or even what the DJI Spark should have been at launch.

That said, we agree with Drone DJ when they say that this is probably not the true successor to the DJI Mavic Pro, but a separate product line—sort of like Apple’s MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro. It just means we have a bit longer to wait before we see a true Mavic Pro replacement.

Leaked photo hints at Samsung Galaxy S9 with variable aperture lens

Samsung has confirmed its upcoming new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S9, will be launched at MWC in Barcelona, so we’ll have to wait until late February to know for sure what features and specifications the new model will have to offer. That said, Reddit users have found an image of an alleged S9 retail box that is already giving us a good idea of what to expect from the new flagship.

From a photography point of view, the most interesting information on the box is the “F1.5 / F2.4” aperture specification, indicating that the Galaxy S9 might come with the same stabilized variable aperture 12MP camera as the China-only W2018 flip-phone.

On that phone, the camera switches between F1.5 and F2.4 when it senses there’s enough light around in an attempt to capture the background as much in focus as possible. Whether or not that really makes a lot of sense, given the small image sensors in smartphones, is for you to decide. In any case, the F1.5 aperture value is the fastest on any current smartphone, which should be appealing to any low-light shooter.

If the specifications on the box are true, the S9 camera will also record super slow-motion videos, hopefully at similarly high frame rates as the latest Sony devices. In addition, there is a pair of AKG-powered stereo speakers, and we’d expect the S9 to come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Most most of the additional information on the retail box is quite similar to the current S8 model: the S9 screen will have a Super AMOLED panel with Quad HD+ resolution (1440 x 2960 pixels), 18:9 aspect ratio, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and an 8MP front camera, all wrapped up in an IP68 water and dust resistant body.
