CamFi update adds wireless tethering support to Fujifilm’s most popular cameras

09 Apr

CamFi has announced the latest version of its application now supports wireless tethering for some of Fujifilm’s most popular camera systems.

The app update supports the following Fujifilm cameras: X-T2, X-T3, X-H1, GFX 50R, GFX 50S and GFX 100, and will work with the CamFi’s CF 101, CF 102, CamFi Pro and CamFi Pro Plus units. In addition to nearly instantaneous image transfers to laptops or mobile devices over Wi-Fi, the update also supports live view mode, remote capture, time-lapse, HDR and focus stacking modes.

CamFi has also added the ability to save a Raw image to the camera’s SD card while remotely transferring over the JPEG to the connected device, allowing for quicker transfers while still getting an image preview. A new USB connector for Fujifilm cameras has also been released, which CamFi says will extend the battery life of the CamFi unit’s battery from one hour to three hours.

The CamFi mobile app update is available to download in the Google Play Store and iOS App Store, where it’s rated 3.4 stars and 2.9 stars, respectively. The macOS and Windows desktop apps are available to download on CamFi’s website.

CamFi app update adds wireless tethering support for popular Fujifilm cameras

Guangdong, CHINA—April 8, 2020—CamFi, maker of wireless camera controllers, today announced that the new version of its app adds wireless tethering support for Fujifilm cameras. This feature allows the photographer to transmit photos from a Fujifilm camera to a laptop or a mobile phone via Wi-Fi automatically during a photo shoot.

“It is not very convenient to review the photos on a mobile device or a Mac while shooting by Fujifilm camera,” explained Mark Ma, CEO of CamFi. “The built-in Wi-Fi is too slow. Our new feature changes all that. Now, our device and app will speed up the workflow of photographers who use Fujifilm cameras.”

The new version of the app delivers a great deal of convenience to Fujifilm photographers. It supports the most popular Fujifilm cameras that are available after this update, including X-T2, X-T3, X-H1, GFX 50R, GFX 50S and GFX 100. The new version of the app also supports live view, remote capture, time lapse, HDR and focus stacking. Furthermore, this version allows photographers to save an image’s RAW file on the camera’s SD card and transfer the JPG file to the client device only. This capability can shorten the time required to review the photo.

All existing users of CamFi CF 101, CF 102, CamFi Pro and CamFi Pro Plus can upgrade their firmware with this version. Windows, Mac, iOS and Android platforms are all supported.

To prevent draining the battery of the CamFi device, CamFi also released a new USB connector for Fujifilm cameras. It will extend the work time of CamFi’s battery from 1 hour to 3 hours.

Capture One update brings first Fujifilm X-T4 support

Fujifilm’s newest flagship APS-C camera is now officially supported by Capture One 20 in a release that also brings further fixes & hardware support

COPENHAGEN, March 3rd, 2020: Capture One, the leading name in photo editing software, celebrates the release of Capture One version 20.0.3 which sees the company offer the first official support to the Fujifilm X-T4 – plus support for additional new cameras and lenses from other brands. Since 2018, Capture One and Fujifilm have enjoyed a unique collaborative relationship; working together to further develop the software, and to enable Fujifilm users to get the most out of the X-Trans sensors. This service release also includes bug fixes for Capture One 20.

Capture One offers Fujifilm photographers a suite of tools unmatched by other photo editing software, including the ability to utilize Fujifilm’s critically acclaimed and globally beloved Film Simulations such as Acros, Provia, and Classic Chrome. With Capture One, these Film Simulations are not restricted to JPEGs, but can be used with RAW files, allowing for the most powerful and flexible image processing ability, and one that is distinctly Fujifilm.

The collaboration also allows Capture One and Fujifilm to support the photographic community by providing full tailored support to Fujifilm’s newest cameras upon launch. From the moment it is released, X-T4 owners can rely on Capture One 20’s industry-leading image quality, tethering, and precise lens correction.

Unlike other RAW processors, Capture One’s camera profiles are individually measured, a process that requires the use of the camera in and out of the controlled lab in Copenhagen, where a team of specialists engage the camera in numerous different scenarios. The team then evaluates performance parameters such as color, sharpness, and noise across hundreds of images and uses that data and experience to provide a truly tailored profile, ultimately providing the best post-processing experience possible, and one that is distinctly Fujifilm.

RawTherapee 5.8 update adds new Capture Sharpening feature, CR3 support and more

06 Feb

Free, open-source software RawTherapee has been updated to version 5.8, the team behind the product has announced. This is a relatively small update, at least as far as general users are concerned. RawTherapee 5.8 brings a new tool called Capture Sharpening that automatically recovers the detail lost due to diffraction/lens blur.

The RawTherapee team explains that Capture Sharpening can be used with Post-Resize Sharpening in order to produce ‘detailed and crisp results.’ The tool is found within the ‘Raw’ tab.

In addition, RawTherapee 5.8 adds support for Canon’s CR3 raw image format. The team says that at this point in time, RawTherapee can decode the image data so that users can process these image files; it cannot, however, retrieve the metadata. Though it’s not explicitly stated, it appears the team plans to add metadata support for these files in the future.

Those two features aside, the new update brings various improvements to camera models, optimizes tools, speeds up the application, improves its memory management and fixes a number of unspecified bugs. RawTherapee 5.8 can be downloaded for Windows, Mac and Linux from the software’s website.

Profoto adds Android support to its B10, B10 Plus strobes via Profoto Connect app

31 Jan

Profoto has announced it’s added Android compatibility for its B10 and B10 Plus strobes via its Profoto Control Android app.

Until now, only iOS users were able to control their B10 and B10 Plus strobes on their mobile devices. Now, Android users can control nearly every setting available on the strobes and even perform wireless firmware updates.

The Profoto Control Android app is free to download in the Google Play Store and works with smartphones running Android 7 or later.

Now for Android – Profoto B10 & B10 Plus

Profoto announces Android compatibility for B10 & B10 Plus’s control, offering seamless smartphone connectivity to more photographers.

In September 2018, Profoto launched the B10, a powerful battery-powered flash in a compact size. Shortly afterward in 2019, Profoto released the ever so slightly bigger brother the B10 Plus. Since then, the B10 series has been the preferred light for on-location photographers globally.

At the time, iPhone users could enjoy the freedom to control light by a simple swipe on their smartphone screen. Today, Profoto also offers that freedom to Android users through the Profoto Control Android app available on Google Play Store.

The Profoto B10 series are seriously small with the Profoto B10 similar in size to a medium camera lens and the B10 Plus around the size of a large camera lens. That said, both lights punch significantly above their weight with the Profoto B10 delivering five times the power of a speedlight and the B10 Plus providing twice that amount; light that’s natural and beautiful with a soft, gentle fall-off.

Trigger and control them wirelessly with ease from any Profoto Air remote, from Profoto Connect, or the Profoto A1 or A1X. You can point and shoot with TTL or switch to manual control at any time.

With the B10 & B10 Plus connected to the Profoto Control Android app, you can easily view and control all B10 and B10 Plus settings from the palm of your hand and install new updates in seconds.

Wherever your shoot takes you, Profoto B10 series provides you the power to create with seamless smartphone connectivity – now available for all Android and iPhone users.

Pricing & Availability The lens is currently available to order from authorized resellers and in Venus Optics official website (http://www.venuslens.net/). It is ready to ship now. The ex-VAT retail price in US is USD 199/pc. Pricing may vary in different countries.

Nikon Z6/Z7 Raw video upgrade available starting today for $200; new firmware adds CFexpress support

17 Dec

Nikon has some much-anticipated news for Z-series videographers: starting today, Z6 and Z7 owners can send their cameras to a Nikon Service Center for a paid upgrade to add Raw video output. The company has also released firmware v.2.20 for the Z6/Z7 today, adding support for CFexpress memory cards.

First announced earlier this year, the paid upgrade brings 12-bit 4K or Full HD ProRes Raw video recording with the Atomos Ninja V recorder to both the Z6 and Z7, which were previously limited to 10-bit Log over HDMI. While 12 months is a fairly long time to wait, it’s probably no coincidence that this announcement comes after the recent settling of a long-running dispute between Apple and RED over the patent to Raw video. This may also explain why the update is paid, rather than available for free.

However, those who purchased the Z6 as part of the Filmmaker’s kit can receive the update at no charge; all other Z6 and Z7 owners must pay $ 200 for the service. Nikon USA has published a dedicated Raw video page explaining the requirements and instructions for obtaining the upgrade.

Nikon Z6 Filmmaker kit

Additionally, firmware v.2.20 for the Z6 and Z7 arrives today, enabling use of more robust (and more costly) CFexpress memory cards. Since the cards are physically the same dimensions as XQD, there’s no need to physically modify the cameras to make them compatible with the new format. The company also says it will add CFexpress support to the Nikon D5 (XQD-type), D850 and D500 at a later date.

Nikon Z6 and Z7 firmware version 2.20 is available starting today free of charge – visit Nikon’s firmware page to learn more.

NIKON Z SERIES EVOLVES TO BECOME EVEN MORE POWERFUL: FIRMWARE VER. 2.20 RELEASED, ADDS SUPPORT FOR CFexpress MEMORY CARDS;
PAID SERVICE TO INSTALL RAW VIDEO OUTPUT FUNCTION ALSO BEGINS

MELVILLE, NY (December 16, 2019 at 11:00 P.M. EST) – Nikon Inc. is pleased to announce the release of firmware Ver. 2.20 for the Nikon Z 7 and Z 6 full-frame mirrorless cameras. This firmware update offers several improvements that make these cameras even more powerful, including the addition of support for the next generation memory card, CFexpress. Additionally, Nikon has announced that beginning today, service to install RAW video output functionality will be available for those wishing to add enhanced professional video capabilities.

Support for CFexpress, the New Standard for Speed and Durability
Updating Z 7 and Z 6 firmware to Ver. 2.20 enables the use*1 of CFexpress*2 cards. CFexpress cards are robust and reliable, and support even faster data transfer than XQD cards for a smoother and more efficient photographic workflow.

CFexpress cards use a similar form factor to XQD, eliminating the need to physically modify the camera’s memory card slot. After upgrading, users will be able to use CFexpress as well as XQD cards in their camera interchangeably. In addition to the Z 7 and Z 6, CFexpress memory card support will be added to the Nikon D5 (XQD-Type), Nikon D850 and Nikon D500 digital SLR cameras in the future.

Initially, only limited CFexpress card types are fully supported and the number of supported cards will continue to expand as additional cards are tested and certified (Type B CFexpress cards manufactured only by Sony Corp. Availability date for the cards may vary by market).

RAW video output function (4K UHD and Full HD)
Developed in conjunction with Atomos, this capability enables recording of RAW video, which has greater flexibility for color grading compared to other video formats.

With this upgrade, 12-bit 4K UHD or full-HD RAW video can be recorded*3 to select models of Atomos video recorders*4 connected to a Z 7 or Z 6 camera via a HDMI connector. As RAW video is not subjected to in-camera processing, all information that is outputted from the image sensor is preserved. This abundance of information can later be used in post-production.

The RAW video output capability upgrade can be installed at a Nikon service center and will incur a fee but will be included free of charge as part of Nikon Z 6 Filmmaker’s kit bundles. Those customers in the United States who have already purchased a Nikon Z 6 Filmmaker’s kit (Product #13545) will be eligible to have the fee waived (proof of purchase required). For more details about the Nikon Z 6 Filmmaker’s kit, please visit here.

For additional technical information, equipment requirements and instructions on requesting the RAW video output upgrade, please visit: www.nikonusa.com/RAWvideo.

Price and Availability
The firmware update Ver. 2.20 which enables CFexpress functionality is available now, free of charge. Please visit The Nikon Z series Firmware update page to download and find more information.

The RAW video output upgrade is available starting today and will require installation by a Nikon Service Center. A $ 199.95* fee will apply.
