Just because you know a lot of Rudiments doesn’t make you a good drummer, having a passion for the instrument is enough to make you a professional. Sure learning every single rudiment will help in a way but really if you have a passion for playing drums you will go far without them.

I do the same too. Not that I’d compare myself to Chris, but yeah. My guess is that he’d have a general idea/shape of the beat and feel he wants to play, and improv a lot of the fills when he plays live.

Its true, my band mates say I play in 3/4 when we are making new songs. I have no idea that I’m actually playing in 3/4 but it just comes out that way.

Just watched a neil peart video. This drummer sounds very average compared to Peart.

Oh yes master. We live to serve you.. I write about what I want, and don’t care much for what you mean. I care about lyrics, guitar, drums, vocals and music as a whole.

Loving his improvisations from how he plays it live here!!! Very different from the recorded version on Sacrament!

I do the same thing while I’m playing guitar. I just don’t give a sh*t on what scales I’m using in my solos. It just has to sound good. Only conservatory-guys worry about every little aspect of what they’re doing on their instrument.

No seriously, he doesn’t know what rudiments and patterns that he is playing. He just thinks of the beat and plays it. A lot of people play drums this way.

At the clinic, and several other interviews I’ve read or heard, Chris himself says that he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He just plays what he wants to hear. He also said that he almost always messes up. He is taking lessons from a friend to learn some technical things, but anything he’s done until now is accidental. That’s what Chris said, not me.

actually…. there are a lot of technical things that go into chris’s drumming. he is very tight and controlled about everything and he rarely ever makes mistakes. one of the best technical drummers out there in my opinion

doubles is a standard in metal drumming. So yes, I do know alot about technique, just think before you type, ok?
