Samyang teaser suggests two new astrophotography prime lenses will be released later this month

04 Apr

Samyang, also known as Rokinon or Bower depending on the retailer, has posted a teaser on its Facebook page for two upcoming lenses — a full-frame lens and an APS-C lens — which appear to have been designed specifically with astrophotography in mind.

Samyang doesn’t reveal the focal length or aperture for either lens, nor whether these are manual lenses or autofocus lenses, but both lenses are relatively compact primes based on their respective silhouettes. Samyang says the lenses will be ‘Masterpiece[s] for Astrophotography,’ with night sky photos (presumably captured with the respective lenses) as the background for the teaser.

The duo will be out by the end of the month, according to the post, so it shouldn’t be long before we know the details.

Olympus posts second teaser for upcoming sports camera

10 Jan

Last week, Olympus published a teaser about a sports-oriented mirrorless camera set to launch on January 24th. The video didn’t reveal much, giving just a quick glimpse of a DSLR-shaped body with a built-in battery grip taking photos at volleyball and water polo matches.

There’s not a whole lot new in this video, aside from someone taking photos at an auto race. The camera is still well-hidden, with Olympus offering a very quick glimpse of the back.

New Nikon teaser hints at ‘Noct-Nikkor’ lens for mirrorless

16 Aug

Nikon’s series of video teasers continues with a look at some classic Nikkor glass and an unmarked lens at the end of the video. Astute readers may notice that the first lens shown is a Noct-Nikkor 58mm F1.2 – one of Nikon’s most famous manual focus lenses, made in limited numbers for about 20 years from the 1970s before being discontinued in the late 90s.

Beloved by fans of low-light photography (and, inevitably, collectors), the rare Noct-Nikkor is hard to find, and good copies sell for very high prices on the used market (see earlier point about collectors). Nikon has already hinted that its new mirrorless lens mount is something special – could it support high-performance F1.2 or even faster lenses? We’ll find out on August 23rd.

Nikon’s 3rd teaser video showcases the ‘Body’ of its upcoming full-frame mirrorless camera

09 Aug

Nikon has released the third teaser for its upcoming full-frame mirrorless camera. Following up on Travel of Light and Mount, the third teaser is called ‘Body: The Evolution of Nikon Quality.’

The video opens up with a few shots of cameras from Nikon’s past as a narrator says ‘all the expertise Nikon has acquired over the past 100 years has been poured into this camera.’ Of course, ‘this camera’ refers to the impending full-frame mirrorless system set to be announced on August 23rd.

A slightly-brightened screenshot from Nikon’s teaser video

After multiple detail shots of older Nikon cameras, the video teases yet another outline of the yet-to-be-seen mirrorless camera. The shot appears almost identical to that seen in the ‘Mount’ teaser video, but this time there seems to be an unrecognizable lens attached to the camera.

A screenshot from Nikon’s ‘Mount’ teaser video — note the absence of the Nikon branding on the viewfinder bump, something we now have a glimpse of in the ‘Body’ teaser.

The teaser also shows Nikon branding on the front of the viewfinder bump, a detail missing from past teaser videos.

Latest Nikon mirrorless teaser gives a closer look at body and lens mount

02 Aug

Nikon has published a new 30 second teaser video about its upcoming mirrorless system, which will be announced on August 23rd. As with most teasers there aren’t many details here (though there’s a nice tour of classic Nikon bodies), but at the end we get a good look at the DSLR-style design of the camera (complete with what looks like a very D850-style handgrip) and its new mount.

Of some possible significance is the fact that the D/SLR bodies featured in this latest teaser video are all professional models…

Given all of the ‘coming soon’ placeholders on Nikon’s website, it’s safe to assume that more videos are forthcoming. What do you make of the latest teaser? Let us know in the comments.

Vivo teaser shows bezel-free smartphone with pop-up camera

24 May

In February, Vivo introduced a concept phone called Apex that featured a bezel-free display and pop-up front-facing camera, among other things. That handset may be more than just a concept, though, based on a teaser included with Vivo’s latest event invitation and a video advertisement it recently published.

Originally pointed out by The Verge, Vivo has released a 2018 FIFA World Cup advertisement that includes shots of what appears to be the Apex phone. In addition to the advertisement, Vivo has also released an invite for the company’s June 12th event in Shanghai, China.

The invite, below, features an image of a smartphone with a full bezel-free, notch-free display.

In addition to both of the aforementioned features, Vivo’s Apex concept phone also included an in-display fingerprint sensor that worked on the entire bottom half of the phone’s screen. We see hints of that feature in the FIFA advertisement above. Earlier this year, Vivo unveiled the X20 Plus UD, the first smartphone to hit shelves with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

In the event invitation, Vivo merely stated that the production phone unveiled next month “continues Vivo’s vision with Apex FullView Concept Smartphone.” Assuming the production phone mirrors the Apex concept, the pop-up camera will be front-facing only.

Huawei shares P20 triple-cam teaser videos

14 Mar

We are getting close to the launch of Huawei’s upcoming flagship P20 smartphone on the 27th of March, and thanks to a number of leaks we’re already fairly certain that the new device will come with triple cam setup, offering a total resolution of 40MP and a 5x optical/digital hybrid zoom.

Now Huawai itself has started teasing the new model with a couple of videos on its YouTube channel.

The first one, called “See Brighter” (above), teases the smartphone’s low-light capabilities. It features a “pro” photographers with a DSLR and huge assortment of lighting gear next to a P20 user who is happily snapping away in the same lighting conditions without any additional equipment.

The second video (below) is titled “See Closer”, hinting at the P20’s zoom capabilities. It follows the same scheme as the first clip, showing a DSLR-photographer shooting with a selection of heavy prime and zoom lenses, next to a smartphone user with triple-cam-equipped Huawei P20.

If the teasers are anything to go by, the P20 could combine a “regular” RGB image sensor with a high-resolution monochrome chip for improved low-light performance and digital zooming, and another RGB sensor with a longer lens for optical zooming. And if Huawei’s engineers can manage to merge image data captured by all three sensors in an efficient way, the P20 could be the mobile camera to beat in 2018.

After going through all the soloing and filming since Evolution of Combat, I bring you Part 2 of the series! Like, Comment, Fav, and subscribe for more videos like this! 🙂 Don’t forget, you can also click the album art of the respective songs if you are interested. 😉 Commander Zilyana and K’ril Tsutsaroth: Lvls 210; Life points: Both 55000; Weakness: Water (Sara) & Fire (Zammy) If you noticed their weakness, it’s as ironic as it gets. Since Fire represents Zamorak and Water represents Saradomin (although Lightning would be more appropriate), it’s kind of amusing that Jagex decides to use the Gods’ generals own elemental insignia as their own weakness. Please know that Kree’arra and General Graardor do not have weaknesses. TzTok-Jad: Lvl 140; Life points: 45000; Weakness: None During the time I started filming this, I did not have much knowledge with this boss for EoC, which I had to learn the hard way. I guess that’s what I get for not looking up guides on YT, haha. This took me about six attempts to figure out which style is appropriate for the boss. From my experience, using Melee (especially Dharoks set) when the healers are present is extremely risky because even if you have the healers attacking you, they will eventually ignore you and return to healing Jad. And because Jagex doubled their healing rates, do not even think about trying to out-damage the boss while it’s being healed; you’ll never be able to pull this off fast enough.
