TTartisan teases its first AF lens, a 32mm F2.8 for multiple full-frame, APS-C camera systems

TTartisan has announced it will soon release a 32mm F2.8, its first autofocus lens. Very little information about the lens is revealed, aside from the mount options, which will include Canon RF, Canon EOS M, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z and Sony E mount camera systems.

As it stands, this particular focal length is going up against quite a bit of competition in nearly every lens mount it’ll be offered in. The F2.8 aperture isn’t exactly inspiring, so its selling point across all lens mounts will likely be its price point, which hasn’t yet been announced.

We’ll share another article when the lens and its more detailed specifications are released.

7Artisans will ‘soon’ announce a ~$200 50mm F0.95 lens for APS-C mirrorless camera systems

Chinese optics manufacturer 7Artisans is set to release a new 50mm F0.95 APS-C lens for EOS-M, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds (MFT), Nikon Z and Sony E mount camera systems.

The fully-manual lens is expected to retail for around $ 200. It will feature a metal build and its optical design consists of seven elements in five groups, including two ultra-low dispersion elements. It’ll have a minimum focusing distance of 45cm (17.7”), offer a de-clicked aperture, use a 13-blade aperture diaphragm, and have a 62mm front filter thread.

The lens will measure 67.5mm (2.7″) long and weigh 416g (14.7 oz). Below is a video review from YouTube channel InfoFotografi (with English subtitles):

Laowa unveils $499 14mm F4 Zero-D lens for EF, F mount camera systems

Venus Optics has announced the release of the Laowa 14mm F4 Zero-D lens for Canon and Nikon DSLR camera systems.

The lens is constructed of 13 elements in 10 elements, including two extra-low dispersion ale nets and two aspherical elements. Like other Laowa ‘Zero-D’ lenses, the lens features near-zero distortion, despite its wide angle of view.

It’s also the first lens to get what Venus Optics called a focusing scale adjustment system, which allows you to calibrate the infinity point of the lens to ensure it’s exactly at the infinity mark based on the specific camera model you’re using it on. Venus Optics has shared the below tutorial showing owners what the calibration process looks like:

The lens features an integrated CPU for electronic control of the aperture with Canon EF mount camera bodies and an aperture coupling for Nikon F mount camera bodies. Other features includ a minimum focusing distance of 14.5cm (5.7″), uses a five-blade aperture diaphragm and uses a 67mm front filter thread.

As for measurements, the lens comes in at 72.5mm (2.85″) in diameter for both the EF and F mount versions. The Canon EF mount version measures 75mm (2.95″) long while the Nikon F mount version is 73mm (2.87″) long, while weighing 320g (11.3oz) and 360g (12.7oz), respectively.

The lens is available to order on Venus Optics’ website for $ 499.

Video: A BTS look at what went into Hasselblad’s X System’s ergonomics, materials and user interface

Hasselblad is back with another video in its ongoing behind-the-scenes series, ‘Hasselblad’s Home.’ In the inaugural video, titled ‘The Design Philosophy Behind Creating the X System,’ Hasselblad shared an inside look at what went into developing the company’s mirrorless medium format camera. Now, in episode two, Hasselblad shares what’s gone into developing the ergonomics, materials and user interface of the Hasselblad X System.

The five-minute video, titled ‘The X System’s Ergonomics, Materials and Hasselblad User Interface’ shares an inside perspective of the decision-making process that went into making some of the most important components of Hasselblad’s X System. In Hasselblad’s own words:

This episode takes a deeper look into what went into creating the X System’s deep grip and the different materials tested for it before choosing the final one, the materials used for the camera itself, button choice and placement, as well as the thoughts behind building the Hasselblad User Interface (HUI).

Regardless of whether or not you’ve ever used a Hasselblad camera, it’s a fascinating video that explains the rationale for the design decisions that are typically confined to within the walls of Hasselblad’s Gothenburg, Sweden operation.

Viltrox unveils 33mm F1.4, 56mm F1.4 APS-C prime AF lenses for Sony APS-C camera systems

Viltrox has announced the release of its new AF 33mm F1.4 and 56mm F1.4 APS-C prime lenses for Sony E-mount camera systems.

The new 33mm F1.4 (50mm full-frame equivalent) features an all-metal construction and is comprised of 10 elements in 9 groups, including one extra-low dispersion element and one high refractive index element. It features the option to manually or automatically control the aperture, a minimum focusing distance of 40cm (15.75″), offers a built-in micro USB port for updating the firmware and is compatible with Sony’s Eye AF technology thanks to its onboard stepping motor (STM) driving the autofocus.

The lens measures in at 72mm long, 65mm diameter and weighs 270g (9.5oz). Viltrox has a full list of compatible Sony cameras on the 33mm F1.4 product page, where you can also buy the lens today for $ 259.

Moving onto the 56mm F1.4 (85mm full-frame equivalent), it too features an all-metal construction and is comprised of 10 element in 9 groups, including an extra-low dispersion element and a high fraction index lens. Interestingly, unlike the 33mm F1.4 lens, the 56mm F1.4 lens appears to be identical in optical design and features to the 56mm F1.4 lens Viltrox released for Fujifilm X-mount systems back in September.

The 56mm F1.4 also supports Sony Eye AF technology, has a built-in micro USB port for updating the lens’ firmware and uses an STM motor for driving autofocus. The lens measures in at 72mm long, 65mm diameter and weighs 290g (10.2oz).

Vazen announces the 65mm T2 1.8x anamorphic lens for MFT camera systems, rounding out the 3 lens lineup

Anamorphic lens specialist Vazen has announced its new 65mm T2 1.8x anamorphic lens for the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) system will cost $ 3,250 and is ready to ship immediately. The new lens completes the 1.8x MFT lens lineup, according to the company, alongside its 28mm T2.2 and 40mm T2 counterparts.

When used with the full 4:3 MFT sensor, the lens will produce a 2.39:1 ratio aspect image once the footage is desqueezed. Shooting in the 16:9 ratio, frames will end up 3.2:1 and will probably need cropping, so cameras that can record from the whole sensor work best. On a MFT camera, the horizontal angle of view will give users the width we’d expect using a 72mm lens on a full frame system, so this is the lens to use for portraits and moderately distant subjects.

In common with the other lenses in the series the 65mm T2 uses a front anamorphic design to make the most of oval out-of-focus highlights and the characteristic flare from point light sources. Vazen, however, claims the flare isn’t too saturated or over-powering. Like the 28mm, the 65mm lens does have a thread for filters, and accepts 86mm screw-in sizes or 95mm using the Vazen adapter. As you would expect, the focus and aperture rings are equipped with 0.8mod cine gears for focus pullers, and the focus throw is 300° from the closest position of 1.09m/3.6ft to infinity. The lens weighs 1.68kg/3.7lbs and measures 105x185mm.

These lenses are a good deal less money than models from most other anamorphic producers, such as Cooke, but are also bigger, heavier and more expensive than those offered by Sirui — though the Sirui lenses have a 1.33x squeeze rather than the 1.8x of these Vazen models.

Owners of the existing 28mm or 40mm lenses will be able to get a discount of $ 400 when they buy this new 65mm lens, and those wanting the whole set of three can buy a kit for $ 8950 instead of the $ 9750 cost of buying them individually. For more information see the Vazen website.

Vazen launches the 65mm T2 1.8x Anamorphic Lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras

Shenyang China, Nov 30, 2020 – Vazen, a new Chinese cinema lens brand, has announced the pricing and shipping availability of the Vazen 65mm T2 1.8x Anamorphic Lens for Micro Four Thirds (M43) cameras. In addition to the previously launched 28mm and 40mm, the whole Micro Four Thirds 1.8x Anamorphic lens set is now completed.

All the Vazen 1.8x anamorphic lenses feature a front anamorphic design. It delivers a buttery smooth oval bokeh, signature blue but not overly saturated, horizontal flare and the widescreen cinematic look. The lens delivered an outstanding sharpness, even at wide open, which is unmatched by other anamorphic lenses with similar squeeze ratio. Vazen chose to adopt a 1.8x squeeze design to balance the anamorphic characters as well as the resolution of the image. The 1.8x produces a stronger anamorphic character than 1.33x / 1.5x anamorphic lenses. And when it’s paired up with 16:9 sensors, much less data (vs 2X anamorphic lens) is needed to be cropped away to create the desired 2.39:1 ratio.

The Vazen 1.8x works best with 4:3 ratio sensors like Panasonic GH5, Z-CAM E2, Panasonic BGH1 to produce the cinematic 2.39:1 ratio. It also works well with Blackmagic Pocket 4k cinema cameras.

The lens is designed with a 86mm filter thread and 95mm front diameter. Both aperture and focus rings are built with 0.8 mod gears.

Sigma to release a new ‘DN’ lens for mirrorless camera systems via livestream on December 1

Sigma has announced it will be showing off a new Digital Neo (DN) lens on December 1 during its ‘Sigma Stage Online’ livestream.

No further information has been shared about what kind of lens we can expect, but with the livestream just a week out, we won’t have to wait long. The livestream will take place at 7am ET (4am PT) using the below video:

Tokina announces 17–35mm F4 lens for Canon EF, Nikon F camera systems

In addition to releasing its 23mm and 33mm F1.4 atx-m lenses for Fujifilm camera systems, Tokina has also revealed its latest lens for Canon EF and Nikon F mount DSLR cameras, the atx-i 17–35mm F4.

If the specs of this lens look familiar, it’s because it appears to be a successor to the Tokina 17–35mm F4 AT-X Pro FX lens (also available for Canon EF and Nikon F mounts). The new lens is constrcuted of 13 elements in 12 groups, features an aperture range of F4 through F22 and has a minimum focusing distance of 28cm (.9ft).

The lens features Tokina’s exclusive One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism, which makes it easy to switch between autofocus and manual focus by pushing and pulling the lens barrel. On the topic of autofocus, the lens uses Tokina’s GMR sensor and Silent Drive-Module (SD-M) motor.

Other features include a 1:4.82 macro ratio, an 82mm front filter thread and ‘moisture protection,’ although Tokina doesn’t elaborate on the extensiveness of its weathersealing specifications.

The Tokina 17–35mm F4 atx-i lens will be available for Canon EF and Nikon F mounts and available to pre-order for $ 600 (Adorama). The first units are expected to ship on December 11.

Tokina unveils 23mm and 33mm F1.4 atx-m series lenses for Fujifilm X-mount camera systems

Tokina has announced the release of two new prime lenses for Fujifilm X-mount camera systems: the atx-m 23mm F1.4 and the atx-m 33mm F1.4.

The 23mm F1.4 and 33mm F1.4 feature 35mm and 50mm full-frame equivalent focal lengths, respectively, and both feature near-silent autofocus thanks to their ST-M motors. Both lenses feature clickless aperture rings, nine-blade aperture diaphragms, aperture ranges of F1.4 through F16, have 52mm front filter threads and are the same size: 72mm (2.83”) long and 65mm (2.56”) in diameter. The 23mm F1.4 weighs 276g (9.74oz), while the 33mm F1.4 weighs 285g (10.5oz).

The Tokina 23mm F1.4 and 33mm F1.4 lenses will retail for $ 479 and $ 429, respectively, when they become available to purchase on December 11.

It’s worth noting both of these lenses appear to be identical in aesthetics and specifications to the Viltrox 23mm F1.4 and 33mm F1.4 lenses that retail for $ 325 and $ 279, respectively.

Cosina Japan reveals its ultra-fast Voigtlander Super Nokton 29mm F0.8 lens for MFT systems

Cosina Japan has announced the Super Nokton 29mm F0.8 Aspherical lens for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) camera systems, making it the fastest functional and commercially-available lens on the market.

The entirely manual lens, which offers an equivalent focal length of a 58mm lens on a full-frame camera, is constructed of 11 elements in 7 groups, including a ground aspherical element. The lens features an aperture range of F0.8 to F16, a twelve-blade aperture diaphragm, an all-metal helicoid unit for driving the manual focus and has a dedicated de-click switch for making the aperture adjustment silent for when shooting video.
