‘See Impossible’: Canon counts down to… something.

06 Oct

Canon is counting down to something, offering by way of a clue a 1990s-era Apple-style series of veiled half-references to ‘excuses, distractions, procrastination, inertia, critics, cynics, realists, pessimists, resistance, conventional wisdom […] the easy way out, the snooze button, the panic button, and to that little voice in the back of your head that says, “It can’t be done.”’. What the company is referring to is entirely unclear, but Canon’s obscurometer runs down tomorrow October 7th, 6am Eastern time. Click through for (very little) more

Canon’s ‘something BIG’ is… a photography competition. Oh well.

01 Aug

Just when Canon India had us all excited… it looks like the company’s ‘something BIG is coming’ teaser was referring to a competition. ‘Photomarathon India’ is open for registration from August 5th, and prizes include a trip to Japan, worth $ 5000. This is great news for Indian photographers, but likely to disappoint those of us hoping that ‘something BIG’ might refer to new hardware. Oh well.

Canon India teases ‘something big’ coming soon

01 Aug

Canon India has posted a teaser on its Facebook page showing a 1-series DSLR alongside the words ‘Get your camera ready, something BIG is coming’. Being a teaser rather than a leak, the meaning of the post is open to interpretation, although ‘get your camera ready’ suggests that the new product might be a lens. With Photokina just around the corner, the time is right for new product announcements. Click through for a look at the teaser.

Nikon’s latest 1 System camera is its most obviously enthusiast-targeted model so far. And yet the signals given off, both by the camera and its associated lens range, are not quite so clear. In this opinion piece, Richard Butler wonders: Just what is Nikon up to?

Nowadays we snap photos of every detail of our lives — the food we eat, what our cat is doing, the quirky things we see, the places we go — and we do this in an effort document and remember those experiences.
