The Sigma fp claims the title of ‘world’s smallest full-frame camera,’ offering a 24.6MP sensor in a svelte body that’s not much bigger than your standard compact camera. It’s equipped with plenty of features to keep a serious videographer happy, but we’re also interested in its still photo quality. Netflix certifies the Panasonic S1H for productions, making it the smallest (and only stills/video) camera on the list

Panasonic’s full-frame S1H full-frame mirrorless camera has been certified as a Netflix primary camera and is now part of the Netflix Post Technology Alliance. This recognition means productions are now able to use the relatively affordable S1H as a main camera, so long as the footage is captured within a range of formats and settings.

As laid out in Netflix’s camera production guide, the S1H needs to be shot in at least 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels or 4096 x 2160 pixels) in V-Log with 4:2:2 10-bit All-I (400Mbps) encoding and pixel-for-pixel readout in either full-frame or Super 35 modes.

The capture settings Netflix is requiring of the S1H, according to the camera production guide linked above.

Other specific requirements within the production guide include Noise Reduction be set to zero and sharpening be set to zero, while less-strict recommendations include turning off diffraction compensation and vignetting compensation. Additional suggestions include using the S1H’s Pixel Refresh setting at least yearly, using the sensor cleaning feature and making sure the firmware is always up to date.

Currently, there are no current Netflix Original productions using the S1H, ‘to the best of [Panasonic’s] knowledge,’ but having the full-frame mirrorless camera available as an approved camera should draw massive appeal for smaller operations where budget is more a factor. Yes, $ 4000 for a single camera body isn’t cheap, but it’s easily the most affordable camera on Netflix’s approved list, which includes the like of ARRI’s Alexa LF, Canon C700, RED Weapon Dragon 8K And Sony F55 camera systems.

Rode’s Wireless GO microphone system claims to be ‘the world’s smallest’

Rode has introduced the Wireless GO, a wireless microphone system that being deemed as ‘the world’s smallest, most versatile’ system of its kind.

Similar to its Wireless Filmmaking Kit, the Wireless GO is a kit that consists of a transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX). The difference is, the Wireless GO TX module works as a standalone microphone thanks to its internal omnidirectional condenser microphone and integrated clip or as a transmission unit for Rode’s lavalier microphone via the onboard 3.5mm TRS input.

The two modules measure in at approximately 44mm x 45mm x 18.5mm and weigh just 31g / 1oz. Wireless connectivity is powered by Rode’s new Series III Digital 2.4GHz transmission technology that’s rated for a maximum distance of 70m / 230ft in clear line-of-sight situations.

The modules include built-in Li-po batteries that are rated for seven hours of use and can be recharged via USB. Speaking of USB, the units can be updated with firmware using the same USB-C port that’s used to charge them.

The Wireless GO microphone kit comes with two fur windshields, one pouch, one USB-A to USB-C cable and one SC2 cable. B&H has the system available to pre-order for $ 199 with an estimated shipping date of April 17, 2019 at the time of posting this article.

DJI announces the Osmo Pocket, ‘the world’s smallest 3-axis gimbal’ that shoots 4K60p video

DJI has announced the DJI Osmo Pocket, the world’s smallest three-axis stabilized camera system.

The Osmo Pocket features a 1/2.3″ sensor that captures 12-megapixel photographs and 4K60p video at 100Mbps. It also captures slow-motion footage at 120 fps when shooting 1080p. Audio is recorded with two buiilt-in microphones (one on the bottom of the camera and one on the rear of the camera) that feature noise-cancelling technology for reducing unwanted background noise.

To compose shots, review media, navigate the menu, and select the various shooting modes DJI included a 1″ integrated touchscreen onboard the Osmo Pocket. The integrated shooting modes include ActiveTrack, which tracks a subject within the frame; FaceTrack, a more advanced version of ActiveTrack that will follow a particularly persons face when visible; Timelapse & Motionlapse, modes that speed up time and integrate motion into timelapse videos; FPV Mode, a locked shooting mode that follows the movement of the users hand while keeping the footage steady; and Panorama modes, which enables the capture of multiple images for stitching together in post-production.

For times when the onboard screen isn’t enough — and to unlock a slew of other features — users can also attach a mobile device using the onboard USB Type-C port. Using the included adapters, Android and iOS mobile devices can be connected to the DJI Osmo and operated with the dedicated DJI Mimo app. In addition to live-view and image review, DJI Mimo also adds Story Mode and Pro mode.

Story Mode simplifies the entire video creation process by offering ten templates that automatically control the camera movement and include music, transitions and color grading presets in post-production. After shooting is finished, the DJI Mimo app constructs an entire video that’s ready to share.

Pro Mode, which is available on numerous other DJI products, gives complete control of almost every camera setting imaginable. As its name suggest, it’s oriented more towards professionals, but when auto modes just aren’t enough, Pro Mode is there to fill in the gaps.

The DJI Osmo Pocket battery life is rated for two hours when shooting 4K30p video. The battery is built-in, so there’s no swapping out batteries on the fly, but it’s possible to charge on-the-go with an external battery pack.

DJI has also announced a range of nine accessories for the Osmo Pocket to expand creative possibilities, including an accessory mount, wireless module, controller wheel, expansion kit, ND filter set, waterproof case, extension rod, charging case, and a 3.5mm adapter.

The DJI Osmo Pocket retails for $ 349 and is available for pre-order at DJI.com and through other DJI Authorized Retailers, including B&H.

The Android-only LyfieEye200 is ‘the world’s smallest VR/AR camera’

eCapture Technologies has launched a new version of the LyfieEye mobile camera on crowdfunding website Indiegogo. Called LyfieEye200, this model is being dubbed “the world’s smallest 360° VR/AR camera,” and offers a bunch of neat AR/VR features for Android users who want to get more mileage out of their smartphone photography adventures.

The LyfieEye200 was designed for Android smartphones, and adds 1440p support in addition to the original model’s 1080p resolution. The removable camera plugs directly into a smartphone’s USB-C port, where a pair of greater-than-180° FOV fisheye lenses work together to enable both 360° image/video capture and 360° livestreaming.

To make the magic happen, the camera works in conjunction with the LyfieView200 Android companion app on devices running Android 5.0 or newer. And if you want even more creative possibilities, eCapture offers both the LyfieStroll and LyfieRoam apps for creating simple VR and AR content, respectively. Finally, the camera is also compatible with PCs running Windows 7 or higher, but it does not support iOS.

The LyfieEye200 is available now on Indiegogo, where backers can ‘reserve’ theirs by pledging at least $ 90 USD. Shipments to backers are expected to start in June, assuming the campaign reaches full funding and doesn’t pull a KitSentry.

Western Digital reveals world’s smallest 1TB USB-C flash drive at CES

At CES 2018, Western Digital has introduced what it calls the world’s smallest 1TB flash drive, a tiny USB-C model sporting the SanDisk brand. This flash drive isn’t yet available on the market; instead, it’s acting as a demonstration of Western Digital’s latest advances in storage innovation.

The SanDisk 1TB USB-C model has a “classic” long flash drive form factor—not the newer form factor that fits almost entirely within a USB port—but the company managed to squeeze a full terabyte of storage into this still-tiny size, though it hasn’t provided additional details such as speed, cost, or anticipated launch date.

In addition to showcasing the 1TB USB-C drive, Western Digital has launched the SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive, a model it calls the smallest 256GB USB drive in the world. This drive features a low-profile form factor and a read speed up to 130MB/s.

The flash drive is currently listed on the SanDisk website for $ 150 USD, but is still shown as not-in-stock.

The Profoto A1 is the ‘world’s smallest studio flash’ and Profoto’s first on-camera flash

As expected after last week’s photo and specs leak, lighting manufacturer Profoto has launched an on/off camera flash unit called the Profoto A1. But if you were expecting a simple speedlight, Profoto is definitely branding this as more powerful than that. In fact, they’re calling it “the world’s smallest studio flash.”

The new A1 is styled much like most on-camera flash units, but is equipped with the powerful features of a Profoto studio head. The 76Ws unit uses a lithium ion battery that is claimed to be good for up to 350 full power bursts and which charges in under 80 minutes. Profoto also says that the A1 recycles “four times faster than other on-camera solutions,” as it can emit a full power pop every 1.2 seconds.

A stand-out feature of the A1 is its circular lens, which is said to produce light that is “natural and beautiful with a pleasing soft-smooth fall-off.” The rim of that circular lens housing is also magnetic, and accepts a range of clip-on modifiers that can be changed quickly and easily. The head offers a manually operated zoom function and the rear display is large and easy to read.

The A1 heads are equipped with Profoto’s Air Remote TTL system so they can work in groups alongside other A1 heads or any other Air Remote studio heads from the Profoto studio head range. Finally, the A1 offers variable power over 9 stops in both standard and HSS modes, and includes an LED modeling light for previewing the effect of the flash or using on its own as a light source.

The A1 is currently compatible with Nikon and Canon systems, and will be with Sony models in the future… but it doesn’t come cheap. As previously reported, the Profoto A1 will cost you $ 995 USD… quite the pretty penny when you compare it to some of the full-featured speedlights other options out there from brands like Godox.

PogoCam is the world’s smallest wearable camera

The PogoCam is tiny personal camera that attaches magnetically to eyewear with a proprietary track called PogoTrack. At 10.9 x 12.5 x 42.8 millimeters, according to its makers it is the currently smallest wearable camera. A proprietary electronic architecture allows for high levels of miniaturization and low power requirements while maintaining comparable image quality, storage capacity and performance to competing products.

The camera comes with a 5 MP sensor and can capture and store 100 still images or up to two minutes of 720p HD video at 30 frames per second before you have to download data to a mobile device, using a cable or Bluetooth connection, and charge the battery. The makers of the device claim that image quality is comparable to a smartphone. However, looking at the PogoCam’s specification this would most likely be a low-end smartphone.  

The camera is water-resistant and recharges in approximately 30 minutes. While attached to the spectacle frames it can be moved backwards towards the wearer’s ears when not in use. It can also be removed quickly to store in a pocket. The PogoCam will retail from $ 129 after its official launch on March 30, 2017 and come with a free pair of non-prescription sunglasses with PogoTrack for initial buyers on the PogoTec website. It seems the PogoCam’s main advantage over the recently announced Snapchat Spectacles is its ability to work with a variety of eyewear frames. That said, we’ll have to wait and see how many frames with the PogoTrack feature consumers will be able to choose from.

About PogoCam
PogoCam was designed for the mass market and is easy to use. It comes equipped with a five megapixel sensor providing quality photos or video comparable to a smartphone. PogoCam is capable of capturing in excess of what a typical user would take per day. PogoCam can capture and store 100 still photographs or up to two minutes of 720p HD video at 30 frames/second with full audio (12 10-second clips) before having to be downloaded and charged. The camera is activated by pressing a single button and images are uploaded to a mobile device. PogoCam’s camera function is focus free with auto- white balance making it easy for the user to capture high quality images and video. Depending upon the accessory case, the images can be downloaded with a wired connection or with Bluetooth to a smartphone. The camera is resistant to water and perspiration and recharges in approximately 30 minutes. PogoCam is designed to attach magnetically to frames having PogoTrack technology. While attached, PogoCam can be moved along the length of the track – allowing the user to bring it forward only when in use. The camera can be attached and removed easily with one hand without removing the frames, allowing it to be stored in a pocket or purse when not recording images.

Distribution
PogoCam and PogoTrack plans to be available at thousands of consumer locations in 2017, including eye care offices and optical shops in the U.S. PogoCam and well-known branded non-prescription sunglasses with PogoTrack will be bundled for sale on the PogoCam ecommerce site, www.PogoCam.com and www.Amazon.com. Prescription eyewear with PogoTrack also plans to be available from optical shops and eye care offices in 2017. PogoTec’s channel partners for optical shops, eye care offices, mass market and specialty retail will be announced at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January 2017. Additional channel partners are being added for 2018 and beyond.

Pricing and Availability
PogoCam will retail for $ 129.00 and up depending upon the model purchased. PogoCam will be officially launched on March 30, 2017at the International Vision Expo East Conference in NYC. CASE Remote Air is the world’s smallest smart camera controller

CheeringTech, the maker of the CASE smartphone remote for DSLRs, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for a lighter and smaller next-generation version, the CASE Remote Air.

CheerinTech says at 2.4″ x 1.6″ x 0.2″ the CASE Remote Air is the world’s smallest smart camera controller. At only 50 grams it is also very lightweight. Like similar devices, it connects to the USB-port of your DSLR and creates a Wi-Fi hotspot that allows for a wireless connection to your smartphone or PC. Using a dedicated app you can then see the camera’s live view image on the display of your smartphone, alter camera parameters, control video shooting or use one of the special modes, such as focus-stacking or time-lapse. In addition, you can download images from the camera to your device, including Raw files.

CASE Remote Air works with many Canon and Nikon DSLRs and can be controlled from Android and iOS mobile devices or PC and Apple computers. You can currently reserve a CASE Remote Air for $ 79 plus shipping. Delivery is expected for October. Nico360 to be ‘world’s smallest’ 360-degree camera

A Hong Kong-based startup is looking to fund production of Nico360, a waterproof 360-degree camera. Claiming it will be the ‘world’s smallest’ at 46 x 46 x 28mm, Nicocam says its camera will include two 16MP Sony sensors capable of 25MP still images and 2560 x 1440/30fps video. As with many other 360-degree cameras, Nico360 will be able to produce content for stereoscopic VR headsets. A 1/4″ mount will be used, and the camera will accept microSD cards.

Users will be offered four video recording options: Flat Mode, Sphere Mode, Planet Mode, and VR Mode. Spherical panoramas will be created via in-camera stitching; Nico360 will also offer live video streaming using either via Bluetooth 4.0 or WiFi 5Ghz/ac. Finally, Nico360 will feature an integrated stereo microphone, stabilization and 32GB of internal storage. 

Nicocam plans to sell Nico360 for $ 199. A $ 99 pledge will reserve backers a ‘super early bird’ version on Indiegogo, and the camera is estimated to ship to supporters in October 2016. The funding campaign also offers a ‘full accessories pack’ for $ 89 and a 5000mAh Battery Selfie Stick for $ 39.
