Sandmarc brings its anamorphic, tele, wide-angle and macro lenses to iPhone 11 devices

07 Dec

Smartphone accessory manufacturer Sandmarc has launched its new line of cases for Apple’s iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max smartphone that enables its collection of lenses to work with the latest iOS devices. The new lineup works with Sandmarc’s anamorphic, telephoto, wide-angle and a macro lenses.

The anamorphic lens is a 1.33x anamorphic lens that offers a 2.4:1 aspect ratio once the footage is de-squeezed from the 16:9 video the iPhone captures. The telephoto lens offers 2x magnification on the iPhone 11 and 4x magnification when paired with the telephoto camera module on the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.

The Macro lens will work with any of the camera modules on Apple’s latest iPhones and a protective translucent lens hood will both protect the front element and diffuse light on the subject matter.

The wide lens seems a bit unnecessary considering all of the iPhone 11 models feature both a wide-angle and super-wide-angle lens, but much like Moment’s new wide-angle lens, using Sandmarc’s wide-angle lens atop the standard wide-angle lens on the iPhone 11 devices means you can get ultra-wide-angle shots with Apple’s Night Mode capture mode, as it’s limited to the ‘standard’ wide-angle camera onboard the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max devices.

All of these lenses are compatible with Sandmarc’s collection of filters, including their hybrid filter, circular polarizer filter, ND filters and others. They are constructed of aluminum and feature multi-coated elements to reduce flares and ghosting. The anamorphic lens costs $ 159.99, the macro lens costs $ 89.99 and the telephoto and wide-angle lenses cost $ 99.99.

When you purchase a lens, you will have the option to choose an accompanying case for your iPhone 11, 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max device that the lenses will mount to (in addition to receiving a clip mount for more versatile shooting). If you already have a Sandmarc lens (or a whole kit, you can purchase just the cases as well. You can find all of the new cases, lenses and filters on Sandmarc’s website.

Sandmarc launches hybrid polarized ND filters for DSLR and mirrorless cameras

20 Oct

Back in August photographic filter maker Sandmarc launched a line of hybrid polarized ND filters for smartphone cameras. Now the same type of filter has been released for DSLRs and mirrorless cameras.

Like the smartphone equivalent, the Hybrid Pro filter series combines the filter attributes of neutral density (ND) and polarizers into one single filter. Like a ND filter they help improve dynamic range of a shot in bright light, can help add motion blur to moving objects by allowing for slower shutter speeds, and offer more control over exposure and shutter speeds for film makers. Like a polarizer, they also help reduce reflections, protect highlights and boost color.

Sandmarc’s Hybrid Pro filters are made from multi-coated and anti-reflective glass for accurate color transmission. The company says the aluminum frame material makes the filters both durable and lightweight.

A set of filters includes ND16/PL, ND32/PL and ND64/PL variants to cover shooting in a range of light conditions. The filters are available in 58, 67, 77 and 82mm diameters and can be pre-ordered on the Sandmarc website now. Pricing starts at $ 169.99 for the 58mm version.

Sandmarc launches hybrid ND/polarization filters for smartphone cameras

31 Aug

On smartphones, the effects of many photographic filters can be fairly easily simulated by apps but if you are more of an old-school photographer who also likes to shoot with a phone, Sandmarc’s new premium line of polarized ND filters for smartphone photography and video recording might just be what you have been waiting for.

The accessory maker’s new models combine neutral density and polarizing functionality in one hybrid filter and are manufactured using multi-coated and anti-reflective glass for accurate color transmission. An aluminum frame should provide toughness.

The filters can be attached to Sandmarc’s iPhone lenses or directly to the smartphone using the included clip. They are compatible with most recent high-end models from Apple, Samsung, Huawei and other manufacturers and come with an inner diameter of 40.6mm and an outer diameter of 55mm.

The set includes polarized ND16, ND32 and ND64 filters and be pre-ordered now for $ 129.99 on the Sandmarc website where you’ll also find more information including a full list of compatible devices.

Sandmarc releases anamorphic lens for the iPhone

21 Jun

Apple’s iPhone models and other high-end smartphones are increasingly regarded as serious tools for film-making, generating a market for movie-centric smartphone camera accessories. Last year premium lens makers Moment launched an anamorphic lens for smartphones, now rivals Sandmarc follow suit.

The Sandmarc anamorphic lens for iPhones comes with a multi-element design, multi-coating and anti-reflective glass. It uses an aluminum body and can be attached to most recent iPhone models via a dedicated case or a lens clip.

The company says the lens has been designed to create the same kind of image flare you see in movies and, like other anamorphic lenses, captures more horizontal information by squeezing the image.

The end result is a cinematic look with ultra-wide aspect ratio and black bars at top and bottom. The lens is available for the iPhone 7/7Plus and later on the Sandmarc website. The package will set you back $ 160 and comes with the lens clip and a dedicated case for your iPhone.

Sandmarc launches Kickstarter for smartphone polarizer and ND-filters

08 Jun

Sandmarc, a company that is primarily known for its range of GoPro filters among other action camera accessories, is taking its know-how to the smartphone sector. It has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in order to fund final development and mass production of a new smartphone polarizer and a range of ND filters.

The filters are attached to the phone via a clip holder as it is often used with add-on lenses. The actual filter ring is then screwed onto the holder. Filters are stackable and according to the makers compatible with iPhone 4 and newer, including the dual-camera iPhone 7 Plus. They also work with Android phones, such as the Samsung S8 and S7 models, the Google Pixel or the LG G6. However, looking at the design there is no obvious reason why the clip would not work with most other phones as well.

Sandmarc calls its polarizer Drama Filter. The kit includes a filter, clip mount and a filter case. The set of ND filters has been christened Scape Filters. Apart from clip and case it includes 2-stop, 3-stop and 4-stop ND-filters. A pledge of $ 25 currently secures you the Drama Filter. For the Scape Filters you’ll have to invest $ 49. Delivery is planned for August 2017. More information including sample shots is available on the Sandmarc Kickstarter page.
