Fujifilm confuses users by releasing a promo video for its 8-year-old 35mm F1.4 R lens

05 Aug

The saying goes, ‘better late than never,’ but Fujifilm might be pushing the boundaries of the phrase with its new promotional video.

It’s been eight years since Fujifilm released its XF 35mm F1.4 R lens, but a new promo video showcasing the features of the lens has popped up on the Fujifilm X Series YouTube channel. Understandably, this new promo video has left some Fujifilm users confused and even disappointed, as an upgraded version of this lens is high on the request list of many Fujifilm users.

Unfortunately, this new four-minute video, which showcases numerous Fujifilm X-Photographers talking about the lens, isn’t a teaser for a new, upgraded ‘Mark II’ version or anything of the sort. It’s simply a self-described ‘ode’ to ‘one of the original X mount lenses [that] has captured countless numbers of precious moments over the years.’

The timing is curious, as is ‘The Original’ nomenclature, but the video links directly to a landing page for the XF 35mm F1.4 R, suggesting Fujifilm is still working hard to promote one of the first XF lenses.

Fujifilm pulls controversial X100V promo video due to the featured photographer’s method

07 Feb

Days after it launched its new X100V compact digital camera, Fujifilm has pulled one of the promotional videos it published to showcase the new model. Some viewers have criticized the intrusive shooting style used by Tatsuo Suzuki, the photographer featured in this particular video. Others have praised his work, saying his habit of jumping directly in front of subjects is a legitimate part of his art.

Fuji’s promotional video includes several scenes of Suzuki has he captures images on the street, a process that, at times, involves stepping into someone’s path and putting his camera directly in their face. Some subjects are seen being forced to quickly sidestep to avoid the photographer; some look surprised or distressed about the encounter.

Though Fujifilm pulled the promotional video, FujiRumors managed to acquire and publish a copy of it. The action starts around the 0:45 mark.

Canon Korea promo video confirms the RF 70-200mm F2.8 lens won’t have internal zoom

10 Oct

A new video from Canon Korea gives us a closer look at Canon’s upcoming RF L F2.8 trinity and confirms what we’ve suspected from the get-go with the upcoming RF 70-200mm F2.8—it won’t be an internal zoom.

The 72-second video shows off sample images and specifications from each of the three lenses Canon showed off earlier this year: the RF 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM, RF 24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM and RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM.

As expected from the first time we saw the ridiculously compact 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM, the lens will have an extending section for when shooting at longer focal lengths, as seen in the animated GIF above. This video marks the first time we’ve seen the extending section in action and as seen in the video, the zoom ring will have a rather short throw when going from 70mm out to 200mm.

Pricing and availability for these three lenses are still up in the air, but we expect to find out before the end of the year based on Canon’s own lens roadmaps.

Leaked promo video hints at Google Pixel 4 astrophotography mode

10 Sep

Google’s Pixel devices are usually cutting edge in terms of computational photography and the current Pixel 3 device comes with an entire range of computational imaging features, including the multi-frame-stacking Night Sight low light mode.

Now it looks like Google is planning to take things one step further with the upcoming Pixel 4 generation and offer some kind of astrophotography feature.

A fuzzy screenshot of the leaked promotional video showing off a dedicated camera mode for capturing stars.

Pro Android has managed to get hold of what appears to be an (as yet) unreleased Google Pixel 4 promotional video. The clip highlights several software features of the still unreleased device, including a Night Sight-like astrophotography mode. Unfortunately, no technical detail is provided but it is fair to assume to mode will use some combination of frame-layering techniques and artificial intelligence to create well-exposed noise-free images of the night sky.

Huawei’s current flagship P30 Pro already features a multi-frame star trail mode which is capable of achieving pretty attractive results in the right circumstances. We’ll have to wait until October, when the Pixel 4 is expected to be launched, to find out if Google’s solution is capable of improving on the Huawei feature.

The Canon 90D Unveiled Through Leaked Promo Video

24 Aug

The post The Canon 90D Unveiled Through Leaked Promo Video appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by Jaymes Dempsey.

After months of rumors and speculation surrounding Canon’s new DSLR offerings, we finally have something certain to report:

The specs of the Canon 90D, as indicated by a promotional video leaked from Canon.

The Canon 90D Unveiled Through Leaked Promo Video

If you’re a Canon user, you’re going to want to pay attention. Because the Canon 90D is a seriously impressive piece of kit, one that seems to be a combination of the Canon 80D line and the Canon 7D line, and one that will carry on many of the best features from both camera lineups.

Here’s the promotional video in full:

?

Now, what’s so special about the Canon 90D?

First, the resolution is bound to impress: The 90D is slated to have a 32.5-megapixel sensor, which is a huge step up from both the Canon 80D (at 24.2 MP) and the Canon 7D Mark II (at 20.2 MP). The increased megapixel count means increased crop capabilities and an increased potential for large prints.

High megapixel counts usually result in slower continuous shooting. But not for the 90D, which fires off 10 frames per second. This is enough for any type of action photography: sports, wildlife, bird, and more. Plus, the Canon 90D features 45 autofocus points, all of which are cross-type. Together, these features should be a potent combination in the hands of a dedicated photographer.

Add to this 100% viewfinder coverage, impressive battery life of 1300 photos, and an articulating screen, and you’ve got yourself a winner. You should also remember that the Canon 90D will offer dual pixel autofocus, which practically guarantees fast and efficient focus while using Live View.

Who should get the Canon 90D?

I’d recommend grabbing the Canon 90D if you’re a hobbyist or semi-professional photographer. Better yet, you should be interested in action photography of any kind. The strong autofocus and 10-fps continuous shooting is too impressive not to pass up.

Plus, if you’re looking for a bit of a megapixel boost compared to an older Canon, the 90D is the way to go.

Now I’d like to ask you:

What do you think of the Canon 90D? Will you be looking to purchase it? And what are your favorite Canon 90D features?

Let me know in the comments!

A Nokia 9 PureView promo video has been leaked showing off its 5 camera arrangement

02 Jan

We’ve seen rumors of a new Nokia smartphone with a penta-lens camera setup floating around the Internet since last September. Now these rumors have been all but confirmed and it looks like we are pretty close to an official launch of the device.

Website mysmartprice.com has published what looks like a promotional video for the as yet unannounced device. In addition “professional leaker” Evan Blass posted an image of the new device on his Twitter account. In the video the device is called the Nokia 9 PureView and can be seen with the rumored penta-lens camera on the back.

According to the video, the camera captures five images simultaneously when the shutter is pressed. This results in more light being captured than on conventional cameras and therefore produces better-than-usual low light capabilities. Images can also be refocused after capture, but there is no talk about zoom performance.

The new Nokia will allegedly also come with a 5.99-inch “PureDisplay” that supports the HDR10 standard and features an in-display fingerprint reader. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and 6GB of RAM. 128GB of built-in storage are on board as well.

While general specs are pretty much in line with other current high-end smartphones, the upcoming Nokia’s camera definitely will stand out from the crowd when the phone is made official. This could happen pretty soon and we’d expect the Nokia 9 PureView to be announced at the Mobile World Congress in February at the latest.

Canon shows off its latest CMOS sensor tech in new promo video

18 Apr

Canon isn’t only in the business of making DSLR, mirrorless and point-and-shoot cameras. It’s also in the business of making the CMOS sensors inside those cameras—arguably the most important component. And in order to showcase what its achieved with its latest lineup of CMOS sensors, Canon USA has created a little promotional video.

The video showcases a variety of sensors seen across Canon’s product line, from the extreme low-light full-frame sensor it showed off earlier this year, to more industrialized CMOS sensors made for surveillance and security purposes.

The video description from Canon USA:

This video showcases Canon variety of sensors. For several decades Canon has been developing and manufacturing advanced CMOS sensors with state-of-the-art technologies for exclusive use in Canon products. These sensors are a critical driving force behind many of our successful product lines, ranging from consumer products all the way up to high-end business and industrial solutions.

The video does seem a touch overly dramatic for what it is, and may even come across as a bit cheesy at times (why are they showing new sensor tech inside a Canon EOS 1D that came out in 2001?). Nonetheless, it’s an interesting watch that gives a good overview of the work Canon has been putting into its CMOS sensors in recent years—technology that will hopefully impact the Canon DSLRs and mirrorless cameras of the future.
