David Stewart’s ‘Five Girls’ wins £12,000 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize

A photographer who has charted the growing up of his daughter and four of her friends has won the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Award with a re-staged picture he entered into the 2008 competition. Five Girls 2014 shows the group six years on from an original image that was taken right before their GCSE school exams (11th grade). Read more

£10,000 Landscape Photographer of the Year 2015 prize winner announced

A picture of the Dorset coastline on a snowy day has won a UK photographer the £10,000 top prize in the ‘Take A View’ competition. Andy Farrer, a professional photographer from Dorset, England, has become the ninth Landscape Photographer of the Year with his image of ‘Bat’s Head In The Snow’. Read more

National Portrait Gallery announces shortlist for Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize

The four images in the running for the £12,000 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize have been revealed by Great Britain’s National Portrait Gallery. The often-controversial award is again set to spark some debate as one of the shortlisted images features a naked boy that many media outlets will have to think twice about reproducing. Read more

Orangutan photo snags Sony World Photo prize for DPR reader

We first became acquainted with Andrew Suryono’s name when his ‘Orangutan in the Rain’ photo popped up as one of the top submissions to the Sony World Photography awards. As we later found out, he’s a DPR regular and his photo eventually took first place in Sony’s Indonesia National Award category. Find out the story behind the image. Read more

US photographer takes top prize in World Photography Awards

American photographer John Moore has won the L’Iris d’Or Photographer of the Year prize in the World Photography Organization’s annual competition. The Getty Images photographer submitted a dramatic and emotional series of pictures telling the story of the Ebola crisis in Liberia’s capital Monrovia – a series that was credited with being the first to expose the scale of the problem that country faced and the severity of the epidemic. Read more

How to win

  • Leave a comment below and tell us which features and tools you’d like to see in the full version of Defrozo (scheduled for the release in October 2015), and more importantly, HOW you would use them to highlight and market your photography. Please note: there is a limit of ONE entry per person.
  • Do this in the next six days and after April 14th, the team at Defrozo will choose the best five answers and we will announce the winners in the following days.
  • The deadline to enter is April 12th, Midnight PDT (GMT-7). Comments left after the deadline will not be considered.

World Press Photo revokes prize from Giovanni Troilo

Following an investigation into Contemporary Issues winner Giovanni Troilo’s photo story ‘La Ville Noir – The Dark Heart of Europe,’ World Press Photo has stripped the photographer of his prize. The organization found Troilo to be in violation of contest rules – specifically, a photo he submitted that he alleged to have been taken in the Belgian city at the heart of the project turns out to have been taken in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, Brussels. Read more

Nikon offers 1.5 million Yen in kit and cash as top prize in annual photo contest

Nikon has opened the doors to entries for the company’s annual photo contest, and is offering a top prize of 1m Yen (approx. $ 9200/£5600/€7100) in equipment with 500,000 Yen cash for the overall top prize. Running since 1969 the competition this year will feature 7 categories including a new ‘Home’ theme and a ‘Generation N’ section for 10 entrants aged 19 and under. Learn more

Deutche Börse Prize winner captures conflict in infrared

An ongoing war in eastern Congo has killed more than 5 million people since it started in the early 1990s. How do you draw attention to an armed conflict the world is largely ignoring? Photographer Richard Mosse spent years in the region documenting combatants with infrared film to make the camouflaged soldiers of the Democratic Republic of Congo stand out rather than blend in with their surroundings. Last week, Mosse won the Deutche Börse Photography Prize for his installation The Enclave. Read more
