SLR Magic announces 35mm and 75mm CINE primes for FE-mount

SLR Magic has announced two new E-mount prime lenses aimed at videographers and filmmakers. The CINE 35mm F1.2 and CINE 75mm F1.4 lenses provide fast maximum apertures, include geared barrels for use with follow focus rigs, and are compatible with FE full frame cameras.

The two lenses have several features in common, including manual diaphragm with 13 aperture blades that stop down to F16, 52mm filter threads with non-rotating front elements, a black anodized finish.

Both lenses have a retail price of $ 499 and SLR Magic says they should be available from dealers by August. The company will have hands on demos available at the CINE GEAR 2016 show from June 3-4 in Los Angeles.

THE SLR Magic CINE 35mm F1.2 (MSRP: $ 499 US/ $ 3,299 RMB) and SLR Magic CINE 75mm F1.4 (MSRP: $ 499 US/ $ 3,299 RMB) will be available from authorised SLR Magic dealers by August, 2016.

The SLR Magic CINE 35mm F1.2 and SLR Magic CINE 75mm F1.4 will be first presented at CINE GEAR 2016 show. There would be a demo at the ATOMOS booth in (Stage 16) during the show held in Paramount Studios in Los Angeles from 3rd to 4th of June 2016.

Sony releases 28mm, 35mm, and 90mm macro full-frame primes

Three full-frame prime lenses on Sony’s lens roadmap officially arrived today which, including the 24-240, brings the total number of FE lenses to eleven. The least expensive of the trio is the 28mm F2 lens, which also supports ultra-wide and fisheye adapters. Next is the long-awaited Zeiss 35mm F1.4 ZA, which is Sony’s fastest FE lens to date. Close-up shooters will be interested in the new 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS lens, which uses a Direct Drive SSM mechanism for ultra-precise focusing. More details here.

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM lens — One of the Fastest Canon Primes You Can Buy

Sunrises Are Best in Las Vegas

It doesn’t get any more bokeh than f/1.2.

The first thing you notice when you hold the EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens for the first time is how significant the weight of this lens is over the less expensive EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens or EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens(both also excellent 50mms lenses). You can feel the quality as you weigh it in your hand. A big, solid, piece of glass allows this super fast f/1.2L lens to get the shallowest depth of field possible.

If you are going to be shooting in the darkest of environments, this is the lens for you. I use this lens a lot at night time parties or indoor events, where getting closer than you need with the EF 135mm lens is not a problem. I use this lens to take amazing photographs of paintings in museums and other places where you want a near perfect technical image at closer range. It’s a wonderful portrait lens of course.

Verbena

I like to take this lens with me if I’m going out to dinner at a restaurant or out for cocktails as it does a remarkable job at capturing food/cocktails in low light. As an aside, the cocktail in this post that I photographed with it is called the verbena and is a secret drink off the menu at the Cosmopolitan Chandelier bar in Las Vegas. The cocktail contains an edible flower called a Szechuan button that you chew before drinking the cocktail. It actually alters your tastebuds and feels like an explosion of pop rocks in your mouth as your entire mouth goes numb. As you sip your cocktail after chewing the flower you taste it in a whole different way. I’d definitely recommend checking it out at the Cosmopolitan on your next trip to Vegas.

Back to photography, the only drawback of this lens is the price. You do pay up a bit for quality here. It’s not that this lens is not worth the money (a little over $ 1,500), it is, it’s just that the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens is such a fantastic value when you compare the two (at around $ 400). While I like this lens much more than my EF 50mm f/1.4, if you are on more of a budget, you may find that the EF 50mm f/1.4 lens is the better 50mm lens for you to buy. On the other hand, if you really must own the best at 50mm lens, this is it.

Sit Over There

It should be noted that at f/1.2 this is currently the fastest (lowest aperture) lens in production by Canon but that it shares this distinction with the EF 85mm f/1.2 USM lens, another excellent Canon portrait lens that I do not own yet, but that is on my list to consider soon.

There is another f/1.0 lens that Canon made, but that lens is no longer in production that I’ve never tried.

Ricoh announces ‘HD’ update to Pentax DA Limited primes

Ricoh Imaging has announced an updated set of Pentax DA Limited primes, with improved lens coatings and circular aperture diaphragms. Based on the existing 15mm F4, 21mm F3.2, 35mm F2.8 Macro, 40mm F2.8 and 70mm F2.4 designs, the ‘HD’ versions gain Pentax’s multi-layer HD (High Definition) coating, promising reduced flare and ghosting, and include diaphragms that are completely rounded at large aperture settings to give attractive background blur. Lens reviews update: DxOMark data for Sony NEX primes

DxOMark has been busy testing lenses for the Sony NEX system, and has just published an article detailing which lenses score best on the NEX-7. As part of our ongoing collaboration, we’ve added the test data for most of Sony’s own E-mount primes to our lens widget, which you can use to assess their performance and compare them against each other. GH1 with Nikon Primes

All of this was shot in 1080p 24fps Full HD video with two separate Nikon Prime lenses: 28mm f2.8 and a 50mm f1.8 It’s beautiful… And just remember… there’s a little shakiness cause i’m filming handheld and there’s no Image Stabilization in the prime lens. I’ll use my shoulder rig with this for actual shoots. And that last shot in the video was a test to see what the footage looked like with high shutter speed 😉

Olympus unveils 12mm F2.0 and 45mm F1.8 fast primes for Micro Four Thirds

Alongside its three PEN bodies, Olympus has announced the M. Zuiko Digital ED 12mm F2.0 and M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.8 prime lenses for Micro Four Thirds. The 12mm F2.0 is a metal-bodied 24mm equivalent featuring a unique snap-focus manual focus mode. A snap-back focus ring reveals a traditional depth-of-field scale for ‘zone’ focusing and offers improved focus ‘feel.’ Later in the year it will be accompanied by the 45mm F1.8 portrait lens, making Olympus one of the only manufacturers to offer a fast prime at a roughly 100mm equivalent focal length, ideally suited to portraiture. There is also a relatively compact, bouncable and remotely commandable flash, the FL-300R, helping the PEN range look more like a complete system.
