As Seen on TV: Floor Plans from Famous Television Series

A talented cast, backed by brilliant directors and writers, makes you feel like part of the action – not just through the actors telling a story, but also via the familiar spaces they regularly occupy in each episode (sometimes for years).

Iñaki Aliste Lizarralde is an artist and designer who painstakingly analyzes and draws out the rooms your favorite characters and their tales occupy, be they the charming sitcom Golden Girls or the macabre drama of Dexter.

And while our minds generally complete the picture for us, many of these famous dwellings do not really exist in a complete way, and some are never fully shown because of camera, entrance and exit placements, leaving our imagination to fill in the gaps.

In some cases, the action spans more than a single apartment, as in Friends where it is ultimately about two neighboring units and the hallway in between.

In other cases, like the Simpsons, seeing the plan makes you realize how simple it is in a fictional world that is wacky in so many ways – it is the backdrop, not a character itself. In the end, real life or otherwise, everyone needs doors, floors, windows and walls. Check out DeviantArt for a closer look or to buy a print.

Möbius Strip: Plans to Build World’s First 3D-Printed House

19 Feb

[ By WebUrbanist in Architecture & Houses & Residential. ]

3d printed house

An unlikely and unique collaboration is in the works between an architect, an inventor and a mathematician-plus-artist to produce a first-of-its-kind printed house in a single shot using cutting-edge 3D construction technologies.

3d house form detail

Janjaap Ruijssenaars of Universe Architecture has teamed up with, Enrico Dini, the developer of D-Shape, with help from Rinus Roelofs to design and implement a looping wonder home made of a kind of concrete. It will use sand as the primary aggregate, and be based on huge panels (nearly 20 by 30 feet) with infill.

This connected-panel system will be three-dimensionally complex – incredibly difficult for normal manufacturing processes, and consequently an amazing illustration of the potential of 3D printing for architectural applications. The Möbius strip shape, suggesting infinite possibility, seems an apt one for the project.

Fujifilm plans X10 firmware in response to ‘white disc’ concerns

07 Dec

Fujifilm has said it will attempt to address the problem of X10 images showing ‘white discs’ with a firmware update in response to customer concerns. The company statement comes in response to our enquiries about the problem, and confirms the phenomenon is caused by sensor ‘blooming.’ It claims the camera is working within prescribed tolerances and that the problem is not uncommon in other cameras but says that it plans updated firmware to ‘lessen the effects’ of the blooming. We have prepared a quick test of the issue (which we will cover in greater depth in the full review), showing the effects of Fujifilm’s suggested ways of mitigating the issue.
