‘Tis the season for dramatic weather in the middle parts of the US, and as such, it’s also the season for incredible time-lapse videos. If you thought we reached peak weather time-lapse just last week when we posted Chad Cowan’s excellent Fractal, well, see what you think after watching Mike Oblinski’s latest.
He captured unusual cloud formations called Undulatus Asperatus rolling across the plains of North Dakota at sunset. As always, we recommend going full screen and cranking the resolution up.
After a 10-hour wedding shoot most photographers are ready to head home and put their feet up, but Mike Olbinski isn’t your average wedding photographer. In between portrait and wedding shoots, he drives from his home in Phoenix, Arizona to photograph the powerful tornados that rip through the Great Plains states every summer. So after a recent wedding gig with the threat of severe weather brewing, Olbinski hopped in his car and drove 15 hours to Oklahoma.
You can see some of the photos from that trip here and read his account of tracking down a dangerous storm over at Resource Travel.
For my last detailing boot camp class I brought in a 2008 Cadillac CTS with the original factory black basecoat/clearcoat finish to let my students learn how to use the Meguiar’s DA Microfiber Correction System. This car was trashed as every panel was completely filled with swirls and scratches. I gave about a 20 minute introduction, demonstration and explanation on how the system works and how to use it and then I turned the class loose to see what they could do. Many of the people that buffed on this car had never used any type of machine to polish paint before attending my class. I think the video plus the before and after pictures speak for themselves. To see ALL the before and after pictures PLUS, * How to wetsand by hand and machine * How to use a Flex 3401 on a 1940 Ford Coupe Hotrod * How to use a rotary buffer with Meguiar’s M105 on a 1966 Corvette Copy and paste the below into Google, Pictures & Comments from September 2012 Detailing Boot Camp -Mike Phillips Video Rating: 4 / 5

Now, while you certainly can wait for someone to hand you that experience on a platter, doing so is putting the ball in someone else's hands. Which is fine if you are both patient and lucky.
Or, you can do what architectural photographer Mike Kelley did, and decide to make it happen on your own. Read more »

See my images at momentsofnaturephotography.com In this video I compare raw and jpeg images. In this video I try to prove two points, that raw is not better than jpeg in general and that whether you use jpeg or raw should not depend on which gives better image quality but on whether or not you like to edit your photos.
