Cocktails with Don Draper, Dinner and Drinks at Oakland’s New Mid-Century Modern, Bardo Lounge and Supper Club

Bardo Lounge and Supper Club, Oakland, California

If, like me, you are a fan of all things mid-century modern, then you won’t want to miss Oakland’s newest Lakeshore addition, Bardo Lounge and Supper Club. Like a vintage trip with Don Draper back in time, you’ll enjoy all the little touches that make for a perfect night out for some excellent cocktails along with lounge or supper service to go with them.

With Bardo, owners Seth and Jenni Bregman have transformed the former Michel Bistro space on Lakeshore into a sort of museum of great taste and design from our favorite wayback era — with some seriously good tunes spinning all night long.

Along with the lush 60s feel, Bardo serves up swingin’ cocktails with lounge service downstairs (no reservations required) and supper service upstairs (reservations required). The downstairs lounge features a lounge and bar where you can order “lounge fare” and some of the items off of the larger tasting menu from supper service upstairs.

Last night Mrs. TH and I tried the lounge service at the bar. In terms of the booze, I opted for the “Walk in the Orchard” cocktail, a well balanced craft cocktail with High West Double Rye, Cynar 70, Apple Cider, Fresh Lime Juice, White Pepper Thyme Maple and Angostura Bitters. Mrs. TH chose the equally delicious “Pilot Maxine,” Blackberry-Washed Gordon’s Gin, Top Hat East India Tonic, Fresh Lime Juice and Fee Brother’s Rhubarb Bitters.

From the menu I’d highlight the devilishly delicious deviled duck eggs, the super rich foie gras cacio e pepe pasta, and most definitely the broccolini casserole — the toasted shallot and almonds on top of the casserole were just perfect. That casserole would win any neighborhood bake off hands down.

Bardo’s Lounge is open from 5pm to Late Wednesday-Sunday and supper is served upstairs 5:30-10pm Thursday-Saturday and 5:30-9:30pm on Sunday. I’d recommend getting there as early as you can for lounge service. We had no problem getting a spot at the bar at 5:30pm last night, but it filled up quickly with a line as it got later. Bonus tip, go catch an epic sunset, with your old school film camera of course, for an early winter sunset over Lake Merritt and just walk on over for dinner afterwards.

Lounge in an Alcove: 14 Nooks for Napping & Relaxing

nooks h2o 1

Who could be blamed for lounging around reading all day when you’ve got a cozy built-in nook surrounded by books or overlooking a scenic landscape? These nooks, niches, window seats and bunks create tiny sheltered spaces within larger rooms, sometimes stacking enough sleeping spots for eight people onto a single wall.

Lockheed Lounge: Meet The World’s Most Expensive Object

30 Apr

[ By Steph in Design & Furniture & Decor. ]

lockheed lounge 1

What about this chaise lounge makes it worth the equivalent of approximately ten middle-class suburban homes, or 5,000 Ikea couches? The Lockheed Lounge by Marc Newson set a record for the world’s most expensive design object created by a living person after it sold for more than £2 million (over $ 3 million USD at today’s exchange rate.)

lockheed lounge 2

One prototype, four artist’s proofs and ten editions of the seat have been created since the Lockheed Lounge’s design in 1990, and it’s perhaps best known to people outside the design community for being prominently featured in Madonna’s 1993 video for the song ‘Rain.’ It’s this particular lounge that got snapped up for millions – over the phone, no less – when it recently went up for auction.

The aircraft-inspired furniture design was an immediate success when an early version of it debuted at a Sydney gallery, and it’s been in demand among the world’s wealthiest design collectors ever since, especially since the shape was refined to become smoother and more free-flowing. It’s made of thin aluminum plates welded together and riveted from the inside. The core is made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic.

The sale cements Newson’s status as one of the world’s highest-grossing designers. His works collectively brought in over £8.5 million in April alone.

Lounge music 2012

13 Dec

Lounge music 2012 Hiatus | j.mp | bit.ly | fb.me | Hiatus – Panda Lounge Mix Show – Exclusively for the Panda Lounge Mix Show on YouTube ============== www.facebook.com www.twitter.com ============== Panda launches the first installment of his new Lounge Mix Show on YouTube with special guest Hiatus. Hailing from Brixton, UK with an Iranian heritage, Hiatus’ musical start began when he learnt to play the piano at the age of five. At university, Hiatus played keyboard in a band called Holy Smoke and then quickly moved on, getting into dance music and actually started to DJ drum and bass – another reason for having him on the show of course 😉 Hiatus self-describes his music as a type of cinematic electronica. It has heavy ambient and chill out influences but luckily does not fall back in to the cliché sounds of lounge. In fact, most of his tracks have a rather deep melodramatic and dark atmosphere about them. Hiatus’ work also has a distinct Middle Eastern tint to it and that’s for a reason: he travels back to Iran every year to look for records to bring back and sample those in his music. Last year after hearing her sing in a live show, Hiatus started working with Shura, a singer from London, who he now delivered masterpieces with such as “Fortune’s Fool” and “River”, both featuring in this mix and coming out on October, 10th, 2011. They are now doing live performances together and working actively on new tracks. In this mix, Hiatus bring us 14 of his and latest tracks
