Sigma can install a rear-mounted filter holder on your Canon 14mm F1.8 Art lens

Lens manufacturer Sigma has announced an interesting new service: users of the company’s Canon mount 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art lens can now pay the company to fit a rear mount filter holder onto their lens. The FHR-11 filter holder is designed to allow gel filters to be held over the rear element of the lens so photographers can enjoy “more freedom of expression.”

Those who want to fit the holder themselves can buy it without the installation service, but keep in mind that damage caused by erroneous fitting will not be covered by the lens’ warranty. Sigma says the time the fitting will take depends on local services, but in Japan users are being told to expect the lens to be away for a week.

In the UK, the FHR-11 on its own costs £35 (~$ 45 USD), while the filter+install service costs £60 (~$ 80 USD). Sigma USA has yet to release official US pricing. For more information see the Sigma website.

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce a chargeable service for installing the Rear Filter Holder FHR-11 on the SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art for Canon.

From September onwards, Sigma will be able to install the Rear Filter Holder FHR-11 on SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art for Canon.

The Rear Filter Holder FHR-11 is an accessory exclusively designed for the SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art for Canon, and it enables photographers to use a filter sheet with the lens.

By attaching it to the rear of the lens, it will allow more freedom of expression.

The Rear Filter Holder FHR-11 will be available in the UK towards the end of September for a Suggested Retail Price of £34.99 including VAT. The Rear Filter Holder FHR-11 and installation service by Sigma Imaging UK Ltd is £59.99 including VAT.

Please contact Sigma Imaging (UK) Ltd for further information. Customers who do not own the appropriate tools or who do not feel confident in attaching the filter holder themselves may take advantage of the chargeable installation service.

Red Cross & IKEA Install Replica of Real Syrian Apartment in Flagship Store

Amidst the colorfully furnished spaces mocked up in IKEA’s flagship store sits a place of jarring contrast, a replicated version of an actual 260-square-foot house that is home to a family of nine in Syria.

IKEA has done installations before and worked on flat-pack refugee shelters, but this piece really brings the problem home, putting it in front of consumers as they shop. In collaboration with the Red Cross, the displays also feature tags that offer people ways to help by donating to relief efforts.

The original house in Damascus, Syria after which this one in Slependen, Norway was modeled houses Rana and eight of her family members. Both the real and replica versions feature hard cinder block walls — the latter relays stories of the residents, how they live and what they lack in terms of food, medicine and clean water.

“We had been working with the Red Cross for months, so we had a lot of footage from Syria,” said the agency behind the idea. “But no matter how emotional it was, nothing got close to the experience of visiting people in a war zone. We realised we could give Norwegians that experience at IKEA. At the one place where you think of and plan the future — the apartment served as a physical reminder of how lucky we are.”

[MODIFIED] General Computers – Why Do Install Programs Ask Me to Close Everything or Restart?

When installing software, here’s why you should close down all running applications – but think twice before shutting down security software.

When you install software on your machine, you are usually asked near the beginning to close other running programs (a good practice to do even if you are not explicitly asked). Why should you consider doing so, and should you shut down everything?

1) Some install programs require you to reboot your operating system when the install is done, so, you would have to close other programs down anyway or let the operating system do so (risking you losing work in such applications). This is especially true for software such as firewalls, virus scanners, some anti-spyware applications, backup utilities, etc….

If you want to learn everything about the subject of cloning, head over to links.theartofretouching.com/cloning which is over an hour and 40 minutes. I’m going to show you how I use the Clone Stamp Tool, however before I do that I’m going to show you how I don’t actually use it. Like many of the photoshop options, the more advanced it gets, the harder it becomes to learn. In this video, I go through all the different options, checkboxes, and pull down menus. When you click on the icon in the tool palette it will bring up Clone Stamp Tool, and Pattern Stamp Tool. The Pattern Stamp Tool I never use. I’ll show you how that works, then explain why I don’t like it. When you click on the palette up top, you can select a pattern. You then paint using the pattern. If you click there and go off to the side you can then select a different group of patterns, which you have then to choose from. I really have difficultly seeing where this would be good, however it is possible that if you do something like this and then go under Filter — Distort — maybe Ocean Ripple or something, it does put enough of a distortion on that pattern to stop it from being an exact pattern. Then maybe there’s a reflection in the water. Something like that is possible, but for true retouching it’s not something I’m going to be using. I will go back to where I was.
