Sigma to pay Nikon $14.5 million for VR patent infringement

The Tokyo District Court has ruled in favor of Nikon in a patent infringement case brought against Sigma. The lawsuit, filed in 2011 and settled last month alleged that six of Sigma’s interchangeable lenses infringed on certain Nikon patents relating to VR (vibration reduction) technology. Nikon sues Sakar for infringement with Polaroid iM1836 Android camera

Nikon Inc. has announced a lawsuit against Sakar International Inc. over the design of the Polaroid iM1836, a planned Android camera that bears a resemblance to one of the Nikon 1 series of mirrorless cameras. Announced this morning in a Japanese language press release on Nikon’s Japanese website, the lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. The lawsuit seeks an injunction against both manufacture and sale of the Polaroid iM1836 digital camera.

Online images and copyright infringement

A dispute between Canadian pro photographer, Barbara Ann and Ottawa radio station HOT 89.9 illustrates the problematic climate in which companies often turn to the Internet for free photographic images. Someone at the radio station found, via a Google search, a wedding photo that was then used as part of a Keynote slide presentation made to potential advertisers. When contacted by the photographer, the station removed the image but the two parties remain far apart on an agreement over compensation. (via PetaPixel)
