Impossible launches special edition Polaroid 600 and metallic frame color film

Impossible has released a special edition of its Polaroid 600 instant camera with a two-tone black and white design. The new model is an online-shop exclusive and will set you back $ 179 in the US or €149 in Europe.

In addition, the company has revealed the Metallic Frame Edition color film pack for 600-type cameras which places your analogue instant photos into shimmering foil frames of different colors. Each photo in the pack of eight features a different colored metallic frame, including gold, blue, purple and pink. The Metallic Frame Edition film pack is $ 24.49 in the US and €21.00 in Europe. Impossible Project launches special edition Two-Tone B&W Polaroid 600 camera

Impossible Project has announced the launch of a ‘strictly limited edition’ Two-Tone Black and White Polaroid 600 camera. This camera is a refurbished original Polaroid 600 redesigned with a custom two-tone paint job, according to the company, and it is exclusively available via the Impossible Project website.

In describing its new Polaroid 600 special edition camera, Impossible Project explains, ‘The new camera celebrates the work of the photographers and artists who have perfected the monochrome palettes – names like Robert Longo, Ansel Adams and Eva Rothschild.’ The new model is priced at $ 179; it isn’t clear how many units are available.

Impossible Project unveils I-1 instant camera for 600-type film

The Impossible Project has unveiled the I-1 instant camera, a revival of an analog classic. The I-1 prints photos using Impossible Project 600-type film, which was reverse-engineered from Polaroid’s now-discontinued 600-type offering. The camera includes digital control not found in the original Polaroid camera. Using a related iOS app, photographers can adjust shutter speed, aperture, flash and select one of several presets.

The Impossible Project’s CEO Oskar Smolokowski showcased the camera at Bloomberg’s design conference on Monday, revealing that the I-1 will be available starting May 10 for $ 299. The model is simple in design, but robust in overall features; the physical camera features an exposure dial, shutter button, focus selector, LED flash ring and square viewfinder. Power is delivered via an integrated battery that recharges with USB.

When paired with a related mobile app over Bluetooth, users can remotely capture images, creature multi-exposure photos, adjust capture settings, and creature ‘open-shutter’ pictures. The Impossible Project only lists an iOS app on its website at this time; it is unclear whether an Android app will be made available, as well. Interested photographers can sign up for updates on the Impossible Project’s I-1 web page.

Impossible Photography: 15 Reality-Bending Images Defy Logic

A floor is a ceiling, a lake is made of shattered glass, carpets of grass cascade over the edge of the world and buildings sprout wheels and wander away in the fantastically surreal world of Erik Johansson. The photographer has spent much of the last decade refining his reality-bending image manipulation techniques, combining dozens of real photos to create effects that are often hyperrealistic yet physically impossible. As unlikely as it may seem, Johansson uses no CGI, stock photos or digital illustrations in his work – each image is a complex collage of his own photographs, captured on his Hasselblad HD5-40 camera.

On his YouTube channel, the artist offers behind-the-scenes videos for many of his works so we can see just how each one is assembled. For his newest piece, ‘Impact,’ Johansson carefully cut four massive mirrors into fragments, arranged them in a field and photographed his model standing among them in a kayak. Photos from this shoot are ultimately blended with images of a lake and additional studio photos of cracked mirror shards.

Depicting just about every step the artist takes during the process, the videos are just as impressive as the final images and make it clear that the arduous process requires many hours of retouching. Johansson even leaves in the parts where he experiments with various effects and ideas that don’t make it to the final version.

As he explains on his website, Johansson is interested in capturing ideas rather than moments, but with the goal of making each one look as realistic as possible, saying “The only thing that limits us is our imagination.”

Impossible Landscapes: Distorted Scenes Disrupt Reality

The laws of physics no longer apply as landscapes bend and flip, air and water blend together so that porpoises swim through the sky, surfers catch waves of clouds and the moon grows to many times its normal size. Jakarta-based graphic designer Jati Putra digitally blends photographs of nature, architecture and human subjects to create otherworldly scenes.

These creative compositions masterfully combine images that don’t really go together in the real world, but match up beautifully in mood, tone and color so the results are surreal, yet somehow almost believable. It makes it easy to imagine a world in which you can walk up to the edge of a cliff and see the moon floating in the clouds just off in the distance.

Other manipulations create Inception-like landscapes that fold upon themselves in strange ways, the shape of the Earth and gravity temporarily suspended. But some are so subtle it takes a moment to realize that the trees in a forest are mirrored, with roots and another soil surface where the leaves and sky should be.

Impossible launches B&W 2.0 quick-process instant film for 600 series cameras

Instant film manufacturer Impossible has launched what it calls a Generation 2.0 film called B&W 2.0. The company claims it’s not only sharper and clearer than previous Impossible products, but also develops much quicker. The new film is the result of a new chemical formula for Impossible that has been developed by former Polaroid research chemist Stephen Herchen. Read more

Impossible adds B&W ‘Hard Color’ Limited-edition Instant Film

Instant-print maker Impossible has added a new line to its ‘special’ and ‘limited’ editions with a 600-type film that features a colored frame surrounding the image area. Joining a line of tinted emulsions and animal-skin-printed frames, B&W 600 Hard Color features a warm high-contrast emulsion with frame surrounds in eight different vivid colors. Read more
