ADOX is doubling the size of its film production plant in Germany

22 Feb

The analog revival seems to roll on, as film producer ADOX has announced it’s doubling the size of its facility that produces photographic chemicals, film and papers. This latest facility comes shortly after ADOX acquired a facility in Marley, Switzerland, which itself joined the company’s Berlin facilities. The new production plant is being constructed alongside the company’s current ‘crowded and stuffed’ facility in Germany.

Per a statement from ADOX, the additional space will enable ADOX to construct additional laboratories, a new emulsifying machine, build a large freezer for storing master rolls, incorporate a Super 8 production line, relocate its packaging factory and setup more offices.

On October 3, camera collector Ilya Stolyar was at the Berlin Central Station in Germany when a thief stole his backpack containing rare Soviet camera prototypes. Stolyar describes these cameras as incredibly rare and highly valuable, the kind that would be sold through auction houses for, in some cases, substantial sums of money.

Stolyar spoke with PetaPixel about the theft, saying, ‘These cameras pretty much are one of a kind factory prototypes that cost some really serious money on collectors market. You can probably trade some of these cameras for cars. Those are pretty much Christie’s-grade cameras.’

Unfortunately, Stolyar has not recovered the cameras at this time, though he is offering a reward to those help get any of the cameras back. His contact information can be found in this forum post. Among the stolen items were the following rare cameras:

  • FED 20
  • FED Romashka Serial 210120
  • Elicon 35C Prototype
  • Elicon 35C MMZ
  • Zenit 19 Prototype (Belomo)
  • Zenit APK (Belomo)
  • Zenit ET Prototype
  • Agat 18 Belomo
  • and Lens
  • Yantar 5 MCE prototype

Germany Puts Stoplights in Sidewalks for Distracted Pedestrians

safety signals

Walkers preoccupied with their mobile devices as they traverse Augsburg, Germany, are starting to notice something new in their peripheral vision: sidewalk-embedded traffic lights designed to let them know when to stop and when to go.

sidewalk embedded traffic signals

The city, concerned about people looking down and ignoring traffic signals, decided to step in with this new invention. The design addresses both people who are at risk of walking out into active lanes, but also lets those standing and staring into their phones when they can safely walk again.

Currently, the city is testing these out in two prime trial locations where railroad tracks run roughly at the same level as sidewalks, making it easy for people to miss physical cues (like a change in pavement elevation) and where a vehicle is less likely to be able to stop in time (train versus car).

A survey conducted in Berlin and several other European countries revealed that nearly 20% of pedestrians (mostly younger people) missed the signal change because they were distracted by their phones. Whether the city should accommodate such behavior is, of course, another question entirely.

According to Stadtwerke Augsburg (translated), “The stubborn look at the smartphone can lead on the road to dangerous situations,” hence the decision “to enhance security for smartphone users.”

The Scalecourse at the Supercrawl 2010, Germany

25 Dec

Maggus (Hilux) and I (yellow Landy) drive some spots of the scalecourse, that were part of the scalerun two days ago with over 30 scale-rigs at the same time. Enjoy. BTW: The steering of my Exo is a little weak on the left side 🙁

Here are 2 or 3 things you can do once you learn to set your aperture, shutter speed, and ISO on your camera. Also, learn to read your light meter. This is not hard…..you just need to do it! Once you learn to adjust these settings, you will become a better photographer.
