Nikon has unveiled the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 ED VR (27-450mm equivalent). It doesn’t replace the company’s existing 18-300mm lens – rather it’s 1/3-stop slower at the long end and 30% lighter, weighing 19.4 ounces. The new 18-300mm has Nikon’s Vibration Reduction system, which can reduce shake by up to 4 stops. Built with three Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements and Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor for quieter focusing, the 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 will be available in May for $ 899.95.

Sigma’s 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM | C is the latest version of its popular stabilized superzoom lens for APS-C / DX format SLRs. It’s smaller and lighter than the previous model (the 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM from 2011), but offers an updated optical design with improved close-focusing abilities. Sigma shipped us a sample a few days ago so we could try it out and we’ve been running around (in typically unpredictable Seattle weather) getting some real-world samples. Just Posted: Our review of the Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD, prepared in partnership with DxOMark. In the last of our mini-series examining superzoom lenses for SLRs, we take a look at how Tamron’s contender compares to its Sigma and Nikon counterparts that we reviewed recently. This type of all-in-one travel and ‘walkaround’ lens is enduringly popular, but how does this two-year-old design stand up against its brand-new competitors?

Just Posted: Our review of the Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM. The latest version of Sigma’s stabilized superzoom is smaller and lighter than the existing non-macro version, yet is able to add improved close-focus performance, helping it compete with the similarly-sized Tamron 18-270mm VC. These long-range all-rounders are a popular choice, so we’ve had a look at how Sigma’s latest performs. We’ve also added DxOMark’s test data for a selection of its competitors, to give a sense of context.

Review Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC lens

12 Nov

Hey guys bear with me as this is my first review, I will try to review all of my photographic equipment to help you guys in choosing what’s best for you. More of these to come soon. This review was recorded using my Kodak Zi6

Here I go again, spotlighting the detail captured in old fashioned film photography. This time it’s a frame of 35mm positive film (Fuji Provia-100). Scanned with a Nikon Coolscan 9000ED, this frame of film becomes a 30 megapixel file. While the Canon 5D MkII and Nikon’s D3x offer resolution very close to 30 megapixels, neither is a match for the detail and tonal quality captured by film.
