NiSi Optics’ new 150mm Explorer Collection ND filters claim to be twice as durable as other filters

06 Jun

NiSi Optics USA has launched its new 150mm Explorer Collection of square neutral density (ND) filters, which it claims are twice as strong as other glass filters on the market thanks to a ‘special glass hardening process.’

The 150mm Explorer Collection is identical to its 100mm predecessor in all but size and work with any of NiSi Optics USA’s S5 and Q system 150mm filter holders. Like the 100mm options, the 150mm Explorer Collection is made from B270 tempered glass and includes the following 2mm-thick filters: 10-stop ND1000, 6-stop ND64, 3-stop ND8, 3-stop ND8 Medium Graduated ND and 2-stop ND4 Reverse Graduated ND.

What sets the Explorer Collection apart from other glass filters on the market is their durability. NiSi Optics USA says it treats the filters via a ‘special glass hardening process’ that doubles the strength of the glass with ‘no visible loss of image quality.’ While that sounds like quite the claim, the above video appears to back up the claims.

Each of the five filters in the 150mm Explorer Collection retails for $ 198 and is currently available to purchase through NiSi Optics USA online shop and authorized retailers.

Press release:

NISI 150MM EXPLORER COLLECTION FILTER RANGE

Hardened Glass Filters Now Available for The 150mm System

NiSi Optics USA have just launched the brand new 150mm Explorer Collection of neutral density filters which are compatible with all of our 150mm filter holder systems including very popular S5 filter holders and Q filter holders.?

The new range of 150mm Explorer Collection filters include the 10 Stop ND1000, 6 Stop ND64, 3 Stop ND8, 3 Stop ND8 Medium Graduated ND and 2 Stop ND4 Reverse Graduated ND. The Explorer Collection range of filters can be used in combination with the 150mm optical glass range of neutral density filters. Each filter in the NiSi 150mm Explorer Collection is priced at USD$ 198.?

When it comes to durability, the NiSi Explorer Collection filters are stronger thanks to the special glass hardening process that makes them up to double the strength of typical glass filter. For photographers shooting in more adventurous situations and harsher landscapes, the Explorer Collection filters may be the better choice when compared to our optical glass filters as they offer increased durability that will provide a great investment over time.

While using the NiSi Explorer Collection filter range, there is no visible loss of image quality when compared to the NiSi range of optical glass filters. The proprietary manufacturing methods used by NiSi ensure there will be no impact on visible image quality when using the tempered glass within the NiSi Explorer Collection series of filters.

Windows 8 – Make it Easier to Differentiate Explorer Windows by Showing Full Paths

24 Apr

Add the full paths to Explorer folders in Windows 8.1 to make it easier for you to navigate your system.

Let’s say you are copying files between different folders on your Windows 8.1 system or networked drives, or perhaps you are performing basic file maintenance. The need comes to work with two different folders that end with the same name in the path. Another task distracts you, and now you need to get back to work on a particular folder. If you hover your mouse pointer over “File Explorer” in the Taskbar, only the ending parts of the paths are readable. You’ll have to manually click on each window to find out what path each thumbnail represents.

What if you could make the folder windows contain the full paths, such as “C:\Windows.old\Windows\Cursors”, instead of just “Cursors”? This is an easy tweak….

Internet Explorer 11 – Place Sites Directly in the Start Menu for Easy Access

21 Apr

Add links to frequently-visited websites directly to the Windows Start Menu.

Are there websites you visit often enough with Internet Explorer 11 that you would like to make opening them up more convenient? Instead of navigating the Favorites menu of IE11, you can pin links to websites directly to the Windows Start Menu.

After opening the website from Internet Explorer 11, perform the following steps depending on your Windows interface:…

Windows 8 – Tweak the Explorer Navigation Pane

20 Apr

Missing seeing Libraries in Explorer? Want to see a full list of folders? Or do you not need to see the Favorites?

When opening folders via Explorer in Windows 8.1, you may notice that the Libraries aren’t automatically present. Plus, if you open Explorer to a particular folder, that folder is not automatically expanded. Also, you may not find much need for the Favorites section. Luckily you can tweak what Windows Explorer shows:

1. From an Explorer window, click the “View” menu, then select “Options”….

Internet Explorer 11 – Change the Default Search Provider to Google, Yahoo!, or Something Else

Tired of IE11 always searching the web with Bing? Learn how to easily change the default search provider to something else.

[MODIFIED] Internet Explorer 11 – Hide Pictures to Speed up Web Browsing

14 Apr

On a low-speed Internet connection or paying for bandwidth? Configure IE11 to stop showing pictures.

Are you performing research on the Internet with Internet Explorer 11 on a slow Wi-Fi connection at a coffee shop? Or, perhaps you’re using a mobile broadband service that will throttle down your speed, or at worst stop working, if you consume too much bandwidth? If so, you can configure IE11 to stop showing images to cut down on data transfer.

1. If you are using Windows 8.1 and have Internet Explorer 11 open in “Metro” mode, close it. With the latest version of Windows 8.1 you can just move the mouse pointer to the top of the screen until an “X” appears at the top-right, then click it. Now open Internet Explorer 11 in the Desktop mode (WIN + D, then click Internet Explorer on the Taskbar)….

Internet Explorer 11 – Allow Some Websites to Show Popups

14 Apr

Tell IE11 that banking, electronic mail, intranet, or other trusted websites should always allow pop-up windows to be shown.

By default, Internet Explorer 11 attempts to block all pop-up windows from appearing, assuming most pop-ups are nuisance advertisements you don’t want to see. There are cases, however, where you want pop-ups to show, and if you perform an action that initiates a pop-up, IE11 may ask if you want the site to let the pop-up window appear.

If you are performing online banking activities, reading electronic mail, or viewing sites on your corporate intranet, you may grow tired of seeing these warnings and just want the browser to allow pop-ups to always appear. You can configure Internet Explorer 11 to allow pop-ups on a site-by-site basis by doing the following:…

Windows 7 – The Explorer is Everywhere; Open a File While Saving Another One

16 Oct

When saving or opening a file in most every Windows 7 application, Explorer features can be used – sometimes with interesting effects.

Here’s a tips many new Windows 7 users don’t know about, and I’ve even shown this to a few experienced users. When opening or saving files in most applications, you are actually opening mini Explorer windows.

What does this mean? Right-click inside a blank area of the file area of the dialog box and you can choose how you want files in the current folder to be viewed, sorted, grouped, etc. You can even select “New” in the dialog box to create new files while supposedly inside an “Open” dialog box!…

Windows 8 – Toggle Hiding / Minimizing the Ribbon in Explorer

16 Oct

Prevent the ribbon in Windows 8’s Explorer from automatically disappearing after you select an option.

In Windows 8, when you select a menu item from the Ribbon in Explorer, by default the ribbon hides itself. This way you can keep more screen real-estate for actually looking through your files and folders.

However, if you are configuring which files to view, altering how you want icons displayed, or rotating images, you may find it irritating that the ribbon disappears each time you select an option, check a box, etc. While you can select the menu bar again to access the option, why should you have to do this each time?…
