Manfrotto Advanced & Street lineup expanded with bags for mirrorless cameras

13 Oct

Manfrotto has launched five new bags in its Advanced and Street Collections, each of them designed for use with mirrorless cameras, lenses and other items. Referring to them as the company’s new Advanced & Street selection, Manfrotto says these bags are aimed at amateur and ‘advanced hobbyist’ photographers in need of Compact System Cameras (CSC) bags. The bags are, according to Manfrotto, a mixture of lightweight, durable and stylish.

The new lineup is composed of the Advanced Compact 1 and Street CSC backpacks, the Street CSC Messenger, Advanced Compact 1 Shoulder Bag and Street CSC Shoulder Bag. The two backpacks are designed to accommodate a mirrorless camera or compact DSLR, as well as up to three lenses, a 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and accessories. The Street CSC Messenger is similar, though it can only accommodate the smaller 9.7-inch iPad Pro, while the two shoulder bags can accommodate either camera type, as well as two lenses and ‘personal items.’

The Advanced Compact 1 shoulder bag is priced at £39.95 and the backpack at £79.95. The Street CSC shoulder bag is £39.95, the messenger bag is £59.95, and the backpack is £79.95.

We’ve just expanded our gallery of real-world Samples from Sony’s Cyber-shot RX1R. The RX1R is essentially the same camera as the older RX1, but without an AA filter on its 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor. We’ve been shooting with it since we received a production-quality sample and recently took it on a camping trip here in Washington State. We’ve added 35 images from that trip to our original gallery of real-world samples, including a handful of Raw conversions ‘to taste’, to give you an idea of what the camera can do. Click through for a link.

Rambus unveils ‘Binary Pixel’ sensor tech for expanded dynamic range

27 Feb

US technology company Rambus has unveiled ‘Binary Pixel’ sensor technology, promising greatly expanded dynamic range for the small sensors used in devices such as smartphones. Current image sensors are unable to record light above a specific saturation point, which results in clipped highlights. Binary Pixel technology gets around this by recording when a pixel has received a certain amount of light, then resetting it and in effect restarting the exposure. The result is significantly expanded dynamic range from a single-shot exposure. The company has demonstrated the technology using a low resolution sensor, and says it can easily be incorporated into CMOS sensors using current manufacturing methods.
