Photo project documents rivers of the interior U.S.

Jeff Rich’s photo project started at the French Broad river outside of Asheville, North Carolina. Since then, ‘Watershed Project’ has taken him to the Tennessee River and now the Mississippi in an effort to document and raise awareness of the safekeeping of these rivers. To create some boundaries for the project, he’s limited the scope to capturing the stewardship, pollution and control of the rivers. Click through and check out some of his images.

Photojournalist unexpectedly documents domestic violence

Freelance photojournalist Sara Naomi Lewkowicz recently recounted the events that led her presence during an incident of domestic violence. The harrowing images that she captured illustrate, among other things, the extent to which this photographer was able to ‘blend’ into the lives of her subjects, capturing a scene in which you’d imagine an outsider would be prohibited from documenting. Yet Lewkowicz’s account has drawn online detractors who question whether intervention, not documentation was the appropriate response. Read on for more details.

Microsoft Word 2010 – Hide the Recent Documents and Clear the Recent Places for Privacy

Prevent Word 2010 from showing recently-accessed documents, and clear the list of recently-opened document locations.

Microsoft Word 2010, similar to other Office 2010 applications, keeps a list of recently open documents, making them available by selecting “File” – “Recent”. This way if you have a variety of documents located in deeply-nested subdirectories or network shares, you can quickly access them without having to navigate via Explorer.

For privacy reasons, many people would rather not have this list available. It can be disabled like so:…

Microsoft Excel 2010 – Hide Recent Documents or Show More

Configure Excel 2010 to hide the list of recent documents for privacy, or show more of them.

As with other Office 2010 applications, Microsoft Excel 2010 keeps a list of recent workbooks, allowing you to directly access frequently-edited documents without having to navigate your computer or network drives. If you have workbooks located in a variety of locations, this Recent list may prove very useful.

While Excel 2010 by default displays the last 25 documents, if you work on many workbooks you may want to increase this number up to 50. On the other hand, if you are worried about privacy you may wish to disable this list altogether….

Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 – Force All Documents to Open in a Particular View

If you open many PowerPoint 2010 documents daily and every author saves them with their own view, force PowerPoint to start on one particular view.

If you work in an office environment requiring the opening of many Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 presentations from a variety of authors, you may have noticed that presentations get saved with a variety of views. Perhaps one person was working on Notes when they saved their presentation, another likes using the Outline View, and yet another forgoes notes and displays slides along with thumbnails.

Instead of opening every presentation in the view saved inside the file, you can force PowerPoint 2010 to open every presentation in the view you desire….
