The Canon EOS R3’s Megapixel Count Revealed By EXIF Data

The Canon EOS R3's resolution revealed by EXIF data

For months, Canon has teased the upcoming EOS R3 and its groundbreaking features, but – as with the release of the EOS R5 and R6 last summer – the company has remained silent regarding resolution.

Speculation and rumors have abounded, at times suggesting a 30-megapixel sensor like the Canon EOS R or even a 45-megapixel sensor to match the EOS R5. But thanks to Canon Rumors, we now have what appears to be a definitive answer:

The Canon EOS R3 will be 24 megapixels.

This specification is backed by significant evidence coming out of the Tokyo Olympics, where the Canon EOS R3 has made an appearance. First, Canon Rumors reported “multiple mentions, likely from people in and around the Tokyo games, that the resolution is ‘closer to’ or ‘around’ 24 MP.” This 24 MP rumor was followed by an EXIF data report showing 6000px by 4000px (i.e., 24 MP) dimensions on EOS R3 Olympic files.

Yes, it falls short of the lofty resolutions suggested above and will slot in behind several of Canon’s top mirrorless cameras, but 24 MP is certainly respectable and hardly unprecedented. After all, the EOS R3’s closest DSLR sibling is the Canon 1D X Mark III, Canon’s flagship DSLR, which features a “mere” 20 MP. And “fast processing, low megapixels” has long been the name of the game for sports-focused models, where high-resolution sensors threaten continuous shooting speeds, camera buffer depths, and more.

A 24 MP sensor also assures superior noise performance over higher-resolution models like the EOS R5; the lower megapixel count (and consequently larger pixel size) combined with Canon’s new backside illuminated sensor technology should be a sight to behold.

At present, here’s what you can expect from the EOS R3:

  • A fully-articulating touchscreen
  • 30 frames-per-second shooting (using the electronic shutter)
  • In-body image stabilization
  • 4K video
  • Eye Control AF
  • Top-notch weather sealing
  • Dual card slots

While pricing information is yet to be released, don’t be surprised if the EOS R3 surpasses even the Canon 1D X Mark III, which debuted at a whopping $ 6500 USD.

Fortunately, you won’t have long to wait; Canon Rumors promises an official announcement in September, and I’d wager that the camera itself will ship before 2021 is out, if not significantly sooner.

Now over to you:

What do you think of a 24 MP EOS R3 sensor? Is the resolution disappointingly low? Is it just right? Too high? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Instagram tests redesigned profiles that emphasize user bios, shrink follower count

27 Nov

Instagram has introduced redesigned user profiles that will be rolling out to users over the next several weeks. The company describes the rollout as a test that retains common profile elements, but rearranges them to provide a new look emphasizing bios and taking the focus away from follower counts.

Though user content posted to the grid remains unchanged, Instagram has repositioned buttons, icons, and other profile elements. User bios are given the most focus with a prominent right placement, whereas follower counts are now listed in small text beneath both the bio and links. Total post counts have been eliminated.

The company hopes its redesigned profiles offer easier navigation and a cleaner look. Testing will take place in multiple phases and “combinations,” Instagram said last week. User feedback on the new look will help shape the experiment and potentially the final design. It’s unclear how many users will see the new profile.

Keep tabs on your Canon’s shutter count (and more) with EOS Inspector 2

24 Jul

Amazingly, there’s no built-in method to finding out how many shutter actuations your Canon DSLR has amassed. Thankfully though, there are third-party solutions to help get the job done.

One such solution is the recently-updated EOS Inspector 2, a MacOS app that’s improved upon the original version of EOS Inspector, which itself was a successor to the original ShutterCount app — all of which are created by independent Russian developer Konstantin Pavlikhin.

EOS Inspector 2 details the shutter actuations of 65 Canon cameras — a list of which you can find here — including Live View shots with supported cameras. The app also details the serial number, batter charge level, remaining shots estimate, and the installed firmware version.

To help you gauge how much longer you can expect your camera’s shutter to function, EOS Inspector 2 also shows the expected shutter life for your camera. It’s also possible to change the metadata fields the camera applies to images, including owners name, author, and copyright.

EOS Inspector 2 is currently available in the Mac App Store for an introductory price of $ 2.99. If you’re upgrading from the original EOS Inspector app, the update is free.

Tutorial: How to check shutter count on your Canon EOS DSLR

07 Feb

A tutorial on how to check shutter count or actuations on your Canon DSLRs. www.sproductions.in Link to the program goo.gl Follow us on Twitter: goo.gl Please note: This is a third party program, download and install at your own risk. This works on any of the Canon DIGIC III/IV DSLRs except the 1D* series. This means it will work for the 40D, the 50D, the 450D and the 1000D. It will not work on the 1D*, 5D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 300D, 350D, and 400D and the 500D.

THIS IS FOR HP battery type of printers only. Even with a battery, some printers might not work. If this doesn’t work you may try disconnecting all the connectors on the circuit board for an hour or look for a software reset method. Even though I collect lots of HP printers as a hobby, I’m clueless about most of them. This video is how to reset the ink on your HP printer. There’s no need to dissemble the printer to get to the battery. A long pair of tweezers to pull the CMOS battery out from its casing for a short time will work just fine. Some printers may not keep time by using the battery alone. Read more at www.land.netonecom.net
