Sony has introduced two 4K-capable modular cameras, including the PMW-F55 which has a Super 35-sized sensor with a global shutter. The specifications of the two cameras are pretty overwhelming – 16-bit Raw recording, parallel 2K and 4K recording, but the biggest news is the global shutter – the ability to capture all pixels simultaneously, rather than one line at a time – totally eliminating rolling shutter effect. Sony’s NEX-VG10 provides the options previously reserved for professional videographers to consumers. It is equipped with the same ExmorTM APS HD CMOS sensor used in Sony’s “NEX-5” and “NEX-3” digital cameras which is approximately 19.5 times bigger than what you would find in conventional camcorders. It has a powerful BIONZTM processor allowing photographers the ability to capture full 1920×1080/60i high definition video at up to 24Mbps for true cinematic Blu-ray quality. And most of you must ask that how much does it cost? I bought the Cam itself 00, the Video Light 0 & I also got a 16GB Memory Stick Pro Duo Mark 2 for 0 that records for 2 hours. This is my latest contraption for shooting stereoscopic 3D from my boat. I’ve been using it to record the local sailboat races in 3D. It uses two Canon HF-M32 camcorders and two Kenlabs KS-4 gyro stabilizers. It is supported by a highly modified FloCam. This 3D video was shot with a Sony HDR-TD10 3D camcorder
Panasonic has announced the HDC-Z10000 an integrated twin-lens 2D/3D camcorder that can shoot in the AVCHD 3D/Progressive standard. The camera features a parallax-barrier LCD that allows the 3D footage to be reviewed on-camera without the need for special glasses. Its adoption of the latest AVCHD standard allows it to shoot 1080p60 footage in 2D and up to 1080i60 in 3D, as well as offering 30p and 24p options. The camera essentially combines two of the company’s 3MOS camcorders in a single body, offering 30-369 equivalent F1.5-2.8 zooms (32-320mm in 3D mode), stabilized for both 2D and 3D shooting.

Convergence is happening – like it or not. Just about every new DSLR model has HD video, and now Sony has introduced the world’s first interchangable lens, APS-C sized sensor camcorder, the Sony VG10.
Along with a small group of web and print journalist I spent part of last week in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park working with the VG10 and its included E mount 18-200mm lens.

Here is a video I made to test out the Aiptek I2 HD 3D camcorder. It was shot at Nathanael Greene Park in Springfield Missouri. The goal of this project was to shoot and edit a stereoscopic video in less than 3 hours, I was rendering when time ran out so there are no title credits.
