Last Call: 11 Drunk Dry Abandoned Liquor Stores

26 May

[ By Steve in Abandoned Places & Architecture. ]

abandoned liquor stores
These 11 abandoned liquor stores are hangovers, as it were, from an era when Mom & Pop stores sold the kind of products Mom & Pop forbade you from buying.

Broadway The Hard Way

Minneapolis’ Broadway Liquor Outlet may be outta liquor but it’s not outta luck, at least not yet. The striking photo above was taken by David Toles of the StarTribune. Toles’ dramatically tilted composition features the store silhouetted against an ominously cloudy sky, though this year no tornadoes descended to finish their destructive work.

Greening Of Detroit

If a tree can grow in Brooklyn, an abandoned liquor store in Detroit can be reborn as a garden shed. Not just ANY garden shed, mind you, but a pastoral-ly repainted edifice emblazoned with environmentally friendly graphics instead of the graffiti one more typically finds in today’s Motor City. We’ll drink to that!

Andra Johnson in association with The Greening Of Detroit volunteered for the re-purposing project which took place on July 30th, 2010. It must have been thirsty work cleaning, prepping and painting the mid-century building under the hot summer sun. If only there was a store that sold cold, refreshing beverages nearby… oh.

Florida Dry

St. Mary's Liquors Nassau County Florida(images via: Southern Exposure)

The former St. Mary’s Liquors store on U.S. 17 in Nassau County, Florida, molders away quietly alongside the also-abandoned Riverside Motel about a mile south of the Georgia state border. Historically, Georgia generally prohibited the sale of alcohol on Sunday – counties could hold local referendums to decide the issue but until recently the results usually upheld the status quo. That attitude is beginning to change, however, and if the county just north of Nassau flipped from dry to wet Sundays, it could explain St. Mary’s Liquors’ sinking fatally into a sea of red ink.

Too Big To Fail?

Bigger isn’t always better, just ask the owners of this ridiculously massive abandoned liquor store – if you can find them. Simply stocking the multistory edifice would cost a king’s ransom and if there should ever be an earthquake, the tsunami of spilled alcohol (cirrhosis of the river?) surging out the front doors would be enough to make even the sternest teetotaler weep… especially if it then caught on fire.

Poladarium 2014: Call for entries

21 Jan

Red Tailed Hawk Call

17 Jan

Red Tailed Hawk Screaming its head off. Filmed this with my Nikon D90 with 18-200mm VR. Not bad I guess. Wish I could get in closer. It was much louder in person. You could hear it throughout the whole park and this park is big! Please excuse my shaky hands as I did not bring my tripod with me. It’s suppose to be 720p HD but its no where near as good as my GoPro HD Hero.

Call Me Crazy: LS Lens DSLR Adapter Tube Concept

06 Dec

See this? This is an 80mm lens from my old Hasselblad film camera. It was built 50 years ago. The leaf shutter is built into the lens. It syncs at 1/500th of a second.

My current 80/2.8LS is a PhaseOne leaf-shutter lens. It syncs at 1/1600th. And it would be very possible—perhaps even simple—to manufacture an inexpensive tube to marry a PhaseOne LS lens to a Nikon or Canon DSLR.

Why, and how, inside. Read more »

Black ops in 3D – Xbox 360 – Call of Duty:Black Ops 3D multiplayer – 1080P – 720P [HD]

25 Mar

Visit www.s3dgamerzone.com for more 3D Videos !! If your like me and love your multi player matches then it might be safe to say having accuracy is a very important skill you need to have in order to keep your kill ratio up in COD . Kill ratio is often what other players (Like me) get made fun of for having to low , basically it means I die more times then I kill. I’m man enough to admit to it and I have accepted it and moved on. A person that has a 4.0 ratio would have 12 kills and only 3 deaths. This would be considered a good player in most peoples eyes and often these players have a much higher accuracy. Many clan members I associate with that game on a 3D rdy PC have told me they couldn’t play Black ops Multi player matches in 3D because they are constantly competing against other clans in tournaments . This would give there opponents a slight edge in there eyes. This is also subjective because others might find it gives them the advantage. I did suggest grouping up with clans that have 3D systems to do tournaments but its a little difficult to find Clans that are serious about there tournaments and all game in 3D. I’m not saying it’s imposable, but difficult. None the less its clear being able to maintain good accuracy is important when gaming in 3D as a whole and for some its crucial especially when play a game like Black Ops. So does playing Black Ops in 3D effect your Accuracy ? Go to www.s3dgamerzone.com to find out more about why Black ops in 3D can effect your
