Yesterday, Sigma announced “the world’s smallest and lightest pocketable full-frame mirrorless camera,” the fp L, which packs a high-resolution sensor into a minuscule, rectangular body:

And that’s what makes this camera special; it’s literally a pocket-sized full-frame camera, one that you can take anywhere yet boasts the power of a much larger model.

The fp L joins Sigma’s current full-frame mirrorless offering, the Sigma fp, another ultra-compact, ultra-light camera that launched back in 2019. 

But while the Sigma fp appealed strongly to videographers, the fp L seems to be more stills focused. First, there’s the 61-megapixel sensor, which serves up plenty of resolution for landscape shooters as well as commercial photographers in need of detailed files. 

Then there’s a 3.68M-dot external electronic viewfinder, which attaches to the side of the fp L and allows photographers to work with the camera the way they’d work with high-resolution competitors such as the Sony a7R IV. As a stills photographer, I can’t fathom the idea of shooting without a viewfinder, so this is a welcome addition to the fp lineup.

(In fact, the EVF is also compatible with the original Sigma fp, so folks who weren’t satisfied shooting via the LCD or the optional LCD viewfinder might want to give that camera another look.)

Unfortunately, the electronic viewfinder does cost extra, though you can save a couple hundred dollars by purchasing it in a bundle with the fp L. 

Sigma’s press release emphasizes the fp L’s new Crop Zoom feature, which gives users the option to zoom by cropping for up to 5x magnification. Of course, zoom in too far and you sacrifice significant megapixels, but given the impressive starting resolution, it may come in handy if you need a bit of extra reach.

The fp L also promises improved autofocus over the fp, thanks to a hybrid autofocus system that combines contrast-detection and phase-detection AF for “smooth autofocus that is high precision, fast, and excellent at tracking a moving subject.” While the fp’s contrast-detection system was certainly serviceable, street photographers, portrait photographers, and travel photographers will appreciate the boost in speed and tracking, as will plenty of videographers. 

Interestingly, Sigma also highlights another new feature of the fp L: “USB-C charging while the camera is on.” In other words, you can pop in the battery, start shooting, and then – if the battery gets low – you can plug the camera into a mobile power bank for what Sigma is calling “unlimited power supply.” If you’re a photographer who spends days in the field but doesn’t want to juggle stacks of batteries, this will be a huge help, and videographers will love the ability to film for hours without worry.

Speaking of videography: 

While the fp L may not be as video-centric as the fp, it’s perfectly capable of pro-level recording; you can shoot 4K/30p footage, and you get plenty of other video features, such as a mic port, zebra patterning, and RAW recording.

Regarding lenses: the fp L is compatible with L-mount glass from Sigma, Leica, and Panasonic, including a host of powerful Sigma L-mount lenses. 

So for those looking for a tiny camera that punches far above its weight, the Sigma fp L is a great option. You’ll be able to purchase the fp L for $ 2499 USD (or $ 2999 USD when bundled with the external EVF) as early as next month.

One of the best ways to make a living with photography is to photograph people. People need photographs of themselves for their businesses, conferences, publications, acting, and more.

Now, when a person comes to you to have their photo taken, they trust you to make them look good. That is really one of the biggest parts of your job as a photographer:

Make your subject look great.

When someone hires you to take their portraits or headshots, it’s important you understand how to pose them and how to angle their body toward the camera. With the right techniques, you will also be able to work more efficiently, which will benefit both you and your client.

After all, most people don’t like to have their photo taken, so you want the process to move along swiftly.

I have compiled clear examples of the slight changes you can make to create a more pleasing portrait. These photos are straight out of the camera; no post-processing or touch-ups have been done. The model in the photographs had professional makeup done before we shot.

(I recommend that you refer your female clients to a makeup artist so they can have their makeup done prior to the shoot. This will make a big difference in the final look.)

Okay, let’s get started.

Shift their weight

With the first set of images (below), the model on the left is standing straight on (i.e., square to the camera). Her body weight is on both of her feet equally.

But as you can see with the image on the right, a subtle shift in her weight makes a big difference. All the model did was put the majority of her weight on her right leg – and this immediately created a subtle s-curve with her body.

The model is still facing the camera straight on, but already looks slimmer.

Lean forward from the waist

The model is still facing you straight on, but you can now have her lean forward from the waist.

With the photo on the left, the model is leaning away from the camera or backward, and it’s very unflattering. This angle creates a double chin and makes her look heavier. Anytime a client does this, you should correct them right away.

To make the photo better, just have your subject lean slightly forward from their waist (toward you).

As you can see from the photo on the right, when the model leaned forward, she automatically angled her head and shifted her weight. The pose is much more flattering!

Weight on the back leg

Now have the model shift her weight to her back leg.

In the examples below, the model shifts her weight to her left leg and brings her right leg forward. With the image on the left, you can see how, when she leans backward or away from the camera, the pose looks awkward and unnatural.

So when your subject shifts their weight back, have them either stand up straighter or have them add a bit of lean toward you (as seen in the photo on the right).

Cross arms

A very popular pose for business headshots is to have your model cross their arms (shown below). This projects a feeling of confidence and strength.

It can go wrong, however.

In the image on the left, the model angled her head backward. This mistake is more common in women, since they often tilt their head in photos.

Instead, communicate clearly with your subject to bring their chin forward and down slightly. This easy adjustment makes a big difference and is the shot your client will want.

Lean forward again

You can get a very nice close-up headshot with the crossed-arms pose.

The image on the left was shot wider to show you how and where the model has angled her body.

Ask your subject to lean forward from the waist. Most people will think this feels weird, so just let them know that it’ll look great in the final image.

Remember that most people are insecure about how they look, so always take time to reassure them that they look amazing!

Then either zoom in tight with your lens or step in closer to get a beautiful portrait.

Photograph on both sides of your model’s face

The example below shows the model’s “good side.” We all have one side that is better than the other. However, it is not usually visible to the naked eye, so please be sure to always photograph your model from the left and the right sides.

This is clearly shown with the model below. Her good side is when she angles her face to the right so her left side is more visible (below right). You can see more of her face, her neck looks better, both eyes are visible, the hair falls naturally, and her nose has a more flattering angle.

When repositioning your model, remember to shoot every pose from each side. Until you get good at recognizing your client’s good side just from looking at the image preview on your camera, always shoot from the left and the right.

Sitting poses

Let’s move on to portraits where your client is sitting down. Having your subject in this sitting position places you above them – so you will be shooting at a downward angle, which is very flattering for most people.

Pose your subject on the seat edge

First, have your subject sit on the edge of the chair. You do not want them sitting comfortably where they lean all the way back.

In the left image below, the model is sitting on the edge of the seat, feet on the floor and shoulders square at the camera. Even though the angle isn’t the best, if you crop in tight, you can still create a nice portrait with the focus on the eyes, as seen in the image on the right.

Consider crossing the arms and angling the face

With your subject still sitting in the chair, have them place their elbows on their knees.

Arms can be crossed or not; I suggest you play around with both options. This forces the subject to look up at you, taking away any issues with their neck.

Make the image better by having your subject angle their face slightly to the left or the right, as shown in the right image (below). Remember that these are tight crops, focusing on the eyes and the smile.

It’s easy to see how a simple posing adjustment can result in better portraits.

A good rule of thumb to remember:

Have your subject angle one shoulder toward you, and have them place their weight on the back leg. This will immediately make them look slimmer.

Of course, now that you know how to pose for great results, the best way to improve is to get out and practice, practice, practice!

Canon announces the EOS C70, a Cinema EOS camera in a mirrorless body

Canon has announced the EOS C70, a digital cinema camera with a body that resembles a mirrorless stills camera. Notably, the C70 uses Canon’s RF lens mount, making it the first Cinema EOS camera to adopt the company’s newest lens system.

The EOS C70 features a Super35 sensor using Canon’s next-generation Dual Gain Output (DGO) technology. The DGO sensor reads each pixel at two different gain levels, with one prioritizing saturation and highlight protection and the other suppressing noise in the shadows.

When combined, Canon claims the camera can deliver 16+ stops of dynamic range at up to DCI 4K/60p or 2K/120p (using a Super16 crop). It can also capture 4K/120p and 2K/180p without extended dynamic range. Recording choices include both All-I and intra-frame options using Canon’s XF-AVC or MP4 (H.265) codecs.

Other features that should appeal to video shooters include dual-pixel autofocus, a motorized 10-stop ND filter, C-Log2/C-Log3, PQ and HLG gamma for HDR, two mini XLR mic inputs, thirteen customizable buttons, and custom in-camera LUTs.

An air intake system provides cooling, allowing the camera to record for extended periods. The cooling system is outside the sealed part of the camera to prevent dust or moisture from reaching the electronics.

The camera features a 3.5-inch 2.76M-dot rear LCD but not an electronic viewfinder. Presumably, Canon expects many Cinema EOS users to put the camera in a rig with their preferred EVF or external monitor.

Alongside the camera, Canon also announced the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x, which allows users to attach EF-mount lenses to the C70. Unlike Canon’s existing EF to EOS R adapters, the EF-EOS R 0.71x is an optical adapter that works like a speed booster, making it possible to use EF lenses on the smaller Super35 sensor at their intended focal lengths while increasing lens speed by one stop.

The EOS C70 will be available in November for $ 5499. The EF-EOS R 0.71x adapter will follow in December for $ 599.

The camera features Canon’s innovative and next-generation Super 35mm DGO Sensor that further extends the high dynamic range and lowers noise levels by reading out each photodiode with two different gains. One gain prioritizes saturation – protecting detail in highlight areas – while the other suppresses noise in the shadows. The result is an image with up to 16-plus stops of total dynamic range, clean, rich shadows, and vibrant highlights in up to 4K/ 60p or 2K/120p in Super16mm Crop mode. The EOS C70 camera also features Canon’s recently developed DIGIC DV7 image processor that collects the extensive information captured from the DGO sensor and processes it into exceptional HDR imagery while offering choices between Canon Log 2 and 3, in addition to PQ and HLG gamma functionality. The C70 camera can also record 4K DCI or UHD up to 120fps and 2K DCI or HD up to 180 fps – with an important flexibility in the choice of codecs.

The camera supports XF-AVC format (in variable bit-rate) – both Intra and Long GOP with MXF file format. The intra-frame format compresses the data after analyzing each frame separately, while Long GOP format compresses data at a higher rate, creating an even smaller file size. A secondary choice is Long GOP 10-bit 4:2:2/4:2:0 MP4/HEVC (a next-generation HDR video recording compression standard) with an MP4 file format – a first in the Cinema EOS line.

The camera’s independent air intake system is separated from the electrical systems to protect the sensor from water, sand, and dust. In addition, the camera also features two air outlet vents that allow uninterrupted recording for extended periods of time.

MS Optics is back with a 24mm F2 Leica M-mount lens that’s almost as small as a body cap

Boutique Japanese optics manufacturer MS Optics has released its latest bespoke lens, a 24mm F2 pancake lens for Leica M-mount cameras.

The MS Optics Aporia 24mm F2 M-mount lens is a return to Miyazaki’s specialty — wide-angle pancake lenses. This Gauss lens is barely larger than a Leica M body cap, yet manages to pack inside six elements in four groups and a focusing range from .5m (1.5ft) to infinity.

We promise that’s a lens on the Zeiss Ikon.

According to MS Optics founder and lens designer, Mr. Sadayasu Miyazaki, Gauss lenses tend to struggle with ‘coma flare from mid-frame into the corners causing reduced contrast and peripheral light falloff.’ Miyazaki says it was a struggle to get around this shortcoming, he’s managed to ‘bring it to a satisfactory level of performance’ thanks to low-dispersion elements.

The lens measures just 50mm (2”) diameter, 5.8mm (.23”) thick and weighs just 45g (1.59oz) — roughly the weight of a golf ball. Below are a few sample photos, captured by Bellamy Hunt of Japan Camera Hunter (JCH):

The 24mm F2 Aporia is being stocked in very limited numbers on the JCH website in gold, black chrome and silver chrome. Right now all models are sold out, but Bellamy Hunt of JCH tells us units are currently being put through quality assurance and will go live ’in the coming weeks.’

Canon EOS R5 on the Way, With a 45 MP Body and 20 FPS Electronic Shooting

After months of vague rumors regarding upcoming Canon mirrorless bodies, we now have specifics on a camera, right down to the name:

The Canon EOS R5.

While still unconfirmed by Canon, the EOS R5 is shaping up to be a powerhouse of a mirrorless camera, sporting a 45-megapixel full-frame sensor, in-body image stabilization (potentially 5 stops, and 7-8 stops with a combined IS lens), and 20 frames-per-second continuous shooting with the electronic shutter (12 frames-per-second with the mechanical shutter).

In fact, the EOS R5 appears to correct most (if not all) of the faults of Canon’s first full-frame mirrorless body, the EOS R:

First, instead of a single card slot, we’re on track to see dual slots in the R5. This is a necessity for pretty much any photographer who requires redundancy in their work, such as professional wedding shooters (after all, you can’t reshoot that big day if your card fails!), as well as professional sports photographers.

The programmable touch bar on the back of the EOS R, which received significant criticism following the R’s release, will be replaced by a scroll wheel.

And, as mentioned above, we should see some impressive IBIS, something which the EOS R left out, and which plenty of shooters see as a key trait in mirrorless bodies.

Astonishingly, the EOS R5 is reported to shoot 8K video at 30 fps and 4K video at 120 fps. While the details of these specs aren’t certain, 8K video of any kind would be a significant upgrade from the Canon EOS R, which offers 4K video at 30p.

So who is the EOS R5 for?

From the specs listed above, it’s clear that the EOS R5 will be aimed at professional shooters. The dual card slots and high continuous shooting rate suggest a body designed for serious sports photographers, wildlife photographers, and some wedding photographers. And while no details on the autofocus system have been released, I suspect that we’ll see something impressive, even compared to the excellent AF offered by the EOS R.

As far as the release date goes, the Canon EOS R5 will supposedly be announced in mid-February, several weeks prior to the late February CP+ show. The camera will likely ship in July.

Nikon’s new D780 is a Z6 in a familiar DSLR body

The announcement of Nikon’s new D780 demonstrates that the company hasn’t given up on DSLRs just yet. The successor to the D750 (which Nikon says is its best-selling full-frame camera) borrows heavily from the Z6 mirrorless camera, with a few things from the D5 as well.

The D780 features a 24.5MP BSI-CMOS sensor – likely the same as in the Z6 – which features on-sensor phase detection. That means that in live view you’ll get dramatically improved autofocus compared to previous Nikon DSLRs, plus face and eye detection. When shooting through the viewfinder you’ll have a 51-point AF system backed with the higher-resolution metering sensor and algorithms from the D5.

Burst shooting with continuous AF tops out at 7 fps, though it can hit 12 fps in live view silent shutter mode (when shooting 12-bit Raw files). The maximum shutter speed is 1/8000 sec, with an x-sync of 1/200 sec.

On the video side, the D780 can capture UHD 4K video at 30p with full-pixel readout. It supports 10-bit N-Log and HLG HDR output, and offers zebra stripes, focus peaking and more.

Lastly, there’s the body, which offers some nice improvements. It now sports a 3.2″ tilting touchscreen, a USB Type C port with in-camera charging and twin SD card slots that support UHS-II media. As before, the D780 is rugged and weather-sealed.

The Nikon D780 will be available later this month for $ 2299 body only and $ 2799 with the 24-120mm F4G ED VR lens.

Funleader LensCap 18mm F8.0 is an ultra-light, ultra-wide body cap lens

Artboard, a photography gear company located in Hong Kong, has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for the Funleader CapLens 18mm F8.0 lens, a small, slim, and lightweight ultra-wide model with a fixed aperture. The lens can double as a camera body cap, according to Artboard, offering protection while retaining the option of quickly snapping ‘playful’ images.

The Funleader CapLens 18mm F8.0 isn’t intended to offer a high level of quality, Artboard explains; rather, the company launched this model to give photographers ‘a lens for playful usage.’ The lens offers greater color accuracy and detail when compared to a Lomo camera while retaining a similar vignetting effect.

The lens features 6 elements in 4 groups, multi-coated glass, a 0.8m minimum focusing distance, and 100-degree FOV. The model is constructed from brass with a chrome plating finish and it is ultra-light at 80g (2.8oz). Below is a gallery of a few low-resolution sample photos:

Fujifilm teases development of X-Pro3 with titanium body, mini rear LCD, hidden display and more

At its Fujifilm X Summit in Tokyo, Japan today, Fujifilm announced the development of its forthcoming X-Pro3 and teased several new and intriguing features the rangefinder-like mirrorless camera will have.

The first detail Fujifilm noted in its presentation is that the X-Pro3 will be built with a titanium body, which will come in three colors: Black, DURA Black and DURA Silver. The standard ‘Black’ version appears to be painted, while the ‘DURA’ versions are coated in some manner. Titanium is a challenging metal to work with, but more durable and lighter than other metal alloys traditionally used in camera bodies.

Fujifilm also talked about the improved hybrid viewfinder in the X-Pro3. Inside the viewfinder is a new electronic viewfinder (EVF) that will offer higher resolution, higher contrast, wider-gamut color space, improved brightness and a higher refresh rate. Fujifilm also says it’s managed to decrease distortion and improve the angle of view inside the viewfinder.

Note the ‘Provia’ film stock icon shown on the compact LCD on the rear of the camera. This film stock icon will stay there and is dynamic in that the ISO rating in the icon changes as you change it on the camera.

Further switching things up, Fujifilm announced that it will be repositioning the standard rear LCD in favor of a compact LCD that is comparable to the top LCD on the GFX cameras, except on the back of the camera. In a neat little trick that nostalgia-seeking photographers will love, this compact LCD can also be used to show the film simulation in use, a nod to the days where you’d rip off part of the film package and place it in the mount on film cameras.

You’ll note we said reposition because, as Fujifilm demonstrated, the display is still there, it’s just hidden. Now, the main rear display sits on the back of a hinged panel, meaning you have to flip it down to navigate the menu or review images/video. Fujifilm says the repositioning of the LCD was done to ‘keep photographers looking through the viewfinder’ rather than ‘chimping’ at the back of the camera.

It’s an unusual approach and, while we can see it appealing to waist-level street shooters, we’ll have to wait to see what it’s like for other types of photography. There have been a lot of calls for an articulated screen on the X-Pro and X-100 series cameras, but we’re not sure this solution will satisfy everyone, either. It will, at least, create a more obvious distinction between the X-Pro and X-T series: with the rangefinder-shaped model being the one you shoot through the viewfinder.

‘Classic Negative’ will be the 10th film simulation Fujifilm has released.

Lastly, as has been rumored, Fujifilm its 10th film simulation called ‘Classic Negative’ that will resemble the look of Fujicolor Superia.

Despite being billed as a ‘development’ presentation, Fujifilm spilled quite a few details about its upcoming X-Pro3 camera system. The camera will officially be announced on October 23rd. How to Use a Pinhole Body Cap for Awesome, Creative Photography

Making a pinhole body cap is a rite of passage on any digital photographer’s journey. It’s a great way to get some of the unpredictability of analog photography without spending loads money on film or having to wait for the results to come back from a lab.

But how do you make a pinhole body cap? And what do you shoot once you’ve made your pinhole body cap?

That’s what you’ll discover in this article.

What is a pinhole body cap and how do you make one?

First things first:

Let’s talk about pinhole body caps and how you make one. For that, you need to know what a pinhole camera is.

A pinhole camera is essentially a light-proof box with a small hole in one side. Light passes through the hole and projects an image on the opposite side of the box. It’s a tiny camera obscura – an optical phenomenon that has been known and used for hundreds of years. If you put photographic film or paper inside the box, you can record the image that the camera obscura produces!

So by modifying a camera body cap, you’re essentially creating a digital version of the camera obscura.

It’s very easy to do! You just need to buy a cheap body cap for your camera (don’t worry about it being on-brand and don’t destroy the one that came with your camera) and put a hole in the middle of it.

I use a tiny drill bit (and a holder meant for model-making) to put the smallest hole I can create in the center of the body cap. Then I take a small piece of black construction paper and put a hole in it with just the very tip of a skinny sewing needle.

Next, tape the construction paper into place on top of the hole you’ve just drilled, lining up the two holes as carefully as possible.

Finally, place the body cap directly onto the camera body and you should be ready to go!

(Note: On some digital cameras, you may need to use a setting that allows you to shoot without a lens attached. If you’re struggling to find this, check your camera manual.)

What’s so special about pinhole shooting?

There are a few great features of pinhole camera photography that you might want to think about as you plan what to shoot. Using a pinhole body cap is completely different than shooting with a traditional lens.

Concentrating on shape and texture can create striking pinhole body cap images.

Almost infinite focus

The first thing to note is that pinhole cameras have an incredibly large depth of field. You can’t focus a pinhole body cap, but that’s okay. You don’t need to. You’ll get images that are sharp throughout.

(However, this means you’ll lose any shallow depth of field or bokeh effects.)

Instead of blurring out any inconvenient backgrounds, you need to work with your surroundings in mind when you compose images.

No distortion

If you’re using a wide-angle pinhole body cap (the focal length of your pinhole body cap is the distance from the pinhole to the sensor), then there will be no lens distortion. When you are shooting architecture, the walls of the building will appear completely straight rather than curved as they would with many wide-angle lenses.

Using hard light to create contrast can be a way to make images appear sharper.

It is possible to increase the focal length of your pinhole body cap by using extension tubes and the like (or a cardboard toilet roll with the inside painted black).

Test out different focal lengths and see what you can achieve!

Long exposure times

The downside of all that depth of field is that you’ll generally need a pretty long exposure time for most shots. This does mean that you can work with interesting blur effects. If you’re shooting urban spaces you can also blur out most of the people in the image, too.

On the other hand, you generally need to take a tripod with you when you go out shooting with your pinhole body cap. The exposures will probably be too long to handhold your camera.

Asking your subject to move while photographing them can produce interesting effects.

It can be interesting to explore either intentional camera movement effects or long exposures on moving subjects with a pinhole body cap. I particularly enjoy using a pinhole body cap to shoot portraits of people.

Try looking at the portrait work of Victorian photographers who used wet plates, or the more modern long exposure portraits (with a large format camera) by Sally Mann. These can provide some inspiration for your pinhole photography of people.

Help! All my images are soft!

The sharpness of a pinhole image depends largely on the size and accuracy of the pinhole you create when building your pinhole body cap. Unsurprisingly, putting a hole in a piece of construction paper is a pretty inaccurate way to build photographic equipment.

The smaller the pinhole, the more accurate the image will be. And the neater the edges of the pinhole, the more perfect the circle around your image will be.

These two images are a direct comparison of a 35mm lens on a Fujifilm body (about a 50mm equivalent) and a pinhole body cap on the same body. The camera wasn’t moved between shots, and both images were cropped the same.

Ultimately, you’re going to need to embrace the heavy imperfections of this style when you plan what you’re going to shoot. Images will be in focus, but they will be very soft – and that’s not something you can correct afterward! If you really enjoy digital pinhole photography then you may want to explore some of the laser cut pinholes that are available on the market. They are very tiny, accurate circles and will create a more technically perfect image.

Of course, the smaller the pinhole, the longer the exposure you’ll need. This is because less light is hitting the sensor, so everything is a trade-off. With extremely tiny pinholes you can be looking at exposures of many minutes rather than a few seconds.

Seeing the world differently

I find that using a pinhole body cap forces me to approach photography differently. Because of the soft quality of the images and the large depth of field, I tend to focus on things like color and shape rather than the subject matter itself. It’s a great way to think about different kinds of composition rules.

If you end up with a pinhole that isn’t quite circular (like most of mine), that can also be a good thing to experiment with. Finding objects that fit inside the pinhole shape you’ve made can create some really unusual images.

What are you waiting for?

Time to get out and shoot! One of the best ways to improve your pinhole body cap photography is simply to head out and start capturing a ton of images. You need to learn how the things around you will translate into pinhole images. It’s only then that you’ll start to see the possibilities for pinhole photography.

Don’t be discouraged at first. It takes time to hit your stride with this style of photography. You may need to let go of some ingrained inhibitions and embrace the imperfections and flaws instead of aiming for technical excellence.

But eventually, you’ll be capturing some stunning photos!

Hasselblad updates CFV digital back for V-system film cameras, produces tiny 907X body

Hasselblad will be reintroducing its medium format digital back for its V-system medium format film cameras, and has announced a new slimline X-series body to go with it. The new CFV II 50C will feature a tilting screen to emulate the waist level finder experience, while the 907X camera will create an interface between the digital back and the company’s XCD lenses.

The CFV II 50C digital back will work on the company’s ‘V-Series’ cameras but can also be used with the new 907X camera, which uses XCD lenses to create a tiny combination.

The original CFV digital back disappeared at about the time the X1D arrived in 2016, with Hasselblad citing a shortage of 50 Megapixel (43.8 x 32.9 mm) CMOS sensors as it clambered to meet demand for the new medium format X body. This new version brings with it some of the advantages of the new X1D II 50C, including a touchscreen and the new style menu that the new camera has adopted. Of great relief will be that the battery is incorporated into the body of the back instead of hanging from below as in the original version. The battery will be the same 3400 mAh unit that is used in the X1D II 50C, and it can also be charged via USB while still in the back.

The new 907X camera is tiny slip of a camera that allows X-series lenses to be mounted on the CFV II 50C back. Designed in the classic Hasselblad style, the camera has a chrome shutter button on the front, and a black and chrome finish on the rest of the body. While the native mount will be for the X lenses, almost all H lenses will be able to be used via an adapter. Adapters will also allow XPan and classic V lenses to be used.

The company says a grip and an optical viewfinder will be available once the body is released.

Together with the CFV digital back, the new 907X isn’t a hundred miles from the V1D concept camera that Hasselblad displayed at Photokina in 2016. That idea was designed to be modular, and was shown with a grip and a moveable screen. This doesn’t have a screen that can be placed on the top of the body, but the CFV II 50C does have a flip up screen that might go some way towards feeling like the same thing.

With the 907X, the photographer will gain access to all of the high-quality X System Lenses in addition to a vast range of Hasselblad optics via adapters, including the H System, V System, and XPan Lenses. In addition, the 907X will enable compatibility with a wide range of third-party adapters and lenses. Planned accessories to beautifully complement the combination include the 907X Control Grip and 907X External Optical Viewfinder.
