Aviary 3.0 for Android launched with updated UI and editing tools

Aviary has announced a significant update to its Android photo editing app. Version 3.0 of Photo Editor by Aviary introduces a sleeker interface, modifications to some existing editing tools and availability of new filters previously only on the iOS version of the app. Click through for more details.

Aviary debuts desktop app and photo-editing SDK for Windows 8

Photo-editing service Aviary has announced its desktop app and Software Development Kit (SDK) for Windows 8. Aviary’s technology which can currently be found in numerous popular Android and iOS photo editing apps, and on the Flickr photo sharing site will be available for download in the Windows Store this week. We’ve reviewed the multi-platform mobile app Photo Editor by Aviary. Even if you’re not familiar with this app, you’ve likely seen Aviary in effect in other mobile applications as the photo editor is available to other app developers as a software development kit (SDK) for Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7, and there’s a Web Widget too. We take a look at Aviary’s version, optimized for both phone and tablet screens, on Connect.

Flickr introduces users to Aviary as Picnik ends

Flickr has added the option to use the Aviary photo editing service, following Google’s decision to close the Picnik service that had previously been offered. Flickr users will be able to make basic edits and image corrections using Aviary which, unlike Picnik, is HTML 5-based – allowing its use on non-Flash devices such as the iPad. However, while Aviary offers similar cropping, filter and sticker options, it loses Picnik’s paintable curves adjustments and other more advanced options.
