Instagram expands anti-bullying system, starts issuing alerts over offensive captions

17 Dec

Instagram has announced that its platform will start warning users when it detects that they’re about to post a potentially offensive caption on a photo or video. This new feature marks the expansion of the anti-bullying system Instagram introduced earlier this year.

In July, Instagram rolled out an AI-powered system that warns users when they attempt to publish a ‘harmful’ comment. This same technology is now being used to monitor for potentially offensive content captions, as well, Instagram announced on Monday.

The system works by identifying captions that are similar to ones previously reported by users. When the system is triggered, a prompt will appear within the Instagram app that reads, ‘This caption looks similar to others that have been reported.’ Users have the option of either sharing the caption regardless or editing it before publishing.

The feature is rolling out to ‘select’ countries at this time, but will be available globally in ‘coming months.’

AirMap announces real-time geofencing alerts on Android, iOS for DJI drones

11 Dec

Airspace management company AirMap announced the release of real-time geofencing alerts in its AirMap for Drones mobile app available for iOS and Android devices.

The new feature alerts pilots visually and/or verbally when their drone is approaching airspace that is unsafe or areas where drone flying is not permitted. AirMap uses data from organizations such as civil aviation authorities, air navigation service providers and local authorities to build its databases and airspace maps.

AirMap says real-time geofencing will soon get the ability to prevent drones from entering unsafe operating area or leaving its flight path, instead of just sending out alerts. Pilots will have to opt in to activate this function.

In addition to implementing real-time geofencing alerts in its own app, AirMap is also making the feature available to other developers and OEMs as a mobile SDK for iOS and Android, allowing them to ‘to build services enhancing flight safety, compliance and overall experience for their users.’

Real-time geofencing alerts are currently only available for users of DJI drones when operating in the AirMap for Drones fly mode. More information can be found on the AirMap website.

Bokeh Market site tracks used camera market value, offers alerts on price changes

11 Nov

A new website called Bokeh Market aims to take some of the work out of buying and selling used camera gear by providing users with real-time market value info. The website, which is free to use, provides a graph showing an item’s value over time, its individual seller rating and, when possible, its trusted seller value. The site also culls active listings for the item from various online destinations, including eBay and B&H Photo.

The website is search-based, meaning users search for the gear they’re interested in. Though an account isn’t necessary to use the Bokeh Market, registering one allows users to create their own gear list, making it easier to see its value. Additionally, accounts can be used to get price alerts for specific items and to create bundles of items, the value of which is provided based on Bokeh Market’s data.
