CP+ 2015: Olympus shares new OM-D E-M5, ‘Air’ and upcoming lenses

We’re at the CP+ show in Yokohama Japan, where Olympus is showing its new OM-D E-M5 enthusiast mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, and the ‘Air’ – a modular camera concept aimed at keen DIY enthusiasts and ‘hackers’. Olympus ‘Air’ clip-on camera for smartphones coming to Japan

Olympus Japan has announced the ‘Air’ – a new camera module which clips onto smartphones in much the same way as Sony’s QX-series products. The Air features a 16MP Four Thirds sensor behind a Micro Four Thirds lens mount, a physical shutter release button and tripod mount. Uniquely, the camera will be released with an open-source API, allowing developers to come up with different applications and explore the potential of the new platform. Read more

Week in review: Photokina is in the air…

Daylight hours may be getting shorter as we enter September but the days are just packed. Photokina is a little over a week away and as expected, the announcements are beginning to ramp up. Last week, Sony’s new QX cameras drummed up a lot of attention, IFA in Berlin produced a number of promising smartphone announcements, Canon’s lenses got cheaper (sort of) and the bird was the word when the 2014 British Wildlife Photography Awards were announced. See what you may have missed in our look back at the last seven days

Giotto’s launches ‘Air’ range of lightweight tripods

Giotto’s has announced four new lightweight and compact tripods designed for travel. Coming in both aluminum and carbon fiber models, they all feature four-section legs for portability, a Y-shaped center column and include a carrying case. The new ‘Air’ tripods will retail from £180-£334 ($ 301-$ 559). Learn more
