Weekly Photography Challenge – All Things Green

09 Aug

Earlier I posted a set of photos with a green theme.

It’s summer in the northern hemisphere and with summer comes lots of green. Green grass, trees, all over nature we see green. It happens to be my favorite color so it makes me happy.

This week I want to see your Green photos. Look around in your world, what do you see that’s green? How many shades can you find? Natural things and man-made. Big and little things. Show us your green!

Weekly photography challenge this week is – all things green!

Here are a few more images of green to get you started:

By John Clare

By Nomadic Lass

By Dandelion Salad

By paige_eliz

By Barb Dunn

By Miikka H

By Parée

By premier-photo.com

Can you tell I picked those before eating dinner?

Now it’s your turn!

Share your Green photos

Simply upload your shot into the comment field (look for the little camera icon in the Disqus comments section as pictured below) and they’ll get embedded for us all to see or if you’d prefer upload them to your favourite photo sharing site and leave the link to them. Show me your leading lines using pathways and roads in this week’s challenge.

What The Duck #1342

09 Aug

We’ve come to the end of another week here at dpreview, and as our thoughts drift to weekend shooting opportunities, it’s time to take things a little less seriously. Aaron Johnson’s comic strip ‘What the Duck’ is just the thing, taking a gently satirical look through the lens of a photographically inclined waterfowl. You can find it published here (and in our newsletter) every week; we hope you enjoy it, and your weekend.

Land der Könige

09 Aug

Bloodswept Lands: Poppies Pour out of the Tower of London

08 Aug

[ By Steph in Art & Installation & Sound. ]

Tower of London Poppies 1

Bloodswept Lands and Seas of Red is the appropriately dramatic name for this incredible installation of red ceramic poppies pouring from an upper window into the dry moat around the Tower of London. A striking visual representation of loss, the work will ultimately consist of 888,246 blooms, each representing a British or Colonial military fatality.

Seen from a distance, the installation could be perceived as either a profusion of vitality in the form of out-of-control flowers, or a macabre river of blood.

Commemorating the centennial of Britain’s involvement in World War I, the installation continues to evolve as members of the public show their support by purchasing individual poppies.

Proceeds from the sale of each poppy will be shared among six service charities, including several that support the mental health and physical needs of veterans in the UK.

The flowers are being placed one at a time by volunteers, the process not set to be complete until November 11th. Progress on the installation can be tracked using the #TowerPoppies hashtag on Twitter.

HTC Gallery update allows for sharing of Duo Cam images

08 Aug

We weren’t wowed by the HTC One M8’s Duo Cam features in our review of the device, partly because its corresponding re-focusing effects could only be used on the phone itself. HTC has changed that with a Gallery App update, allowing users to share the experience with others through a web interface. Read more
