Bokeh: Weekly Photography Challenge

02 Feb

Earlier today we published a plain english guide to achieving nice Bokeh in your shots – so lets put the teaching into practice and make Bokeh our theme for this week’s photography challenge.

Beauty In-Focus | Explored

We want to see you grabbing your camera over the next day or two and setting out to take some wonderful shots with Bokeh in them (i.e. some lovely out of focus areas in your shots).

You can take Bokeh shots in portraits, macro work, still life, nature… really any type of photography you like – so hopefully there’s something for everyone!

Learn how to take shots with Bokeh

In addition to todays guide to shooting Bokeh check out:

  • How to Achieve Better Bokeh – 4 Simple Steps
  • How to Achieve Blurred Backgrounds in Portraits
  • 17 Beautiful Images with Shallow Depth of Field
  • How to Take Beautiful Bokeh Christmas Images (with 39 Examples)
  • Once you’ve taken and selected your best Bokeh shot upload it to your favourite photo sharing site and either share a link to it or – embed it in the comments using the our new tool to do so.

If you tag your photos on Flickr, Instagram, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag them as #DPSBOKEH to help others find them. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.

Also – don’t forget to check out some of the great shots posted in our last challenge – Best Shot of 2012 challenge where there were some beautiful shots submitted.

CupCake Meet 10

02 Feb

By Junior Hernandez Finally, I was able to work on this video of CupCake Meet 10 which was held here in Dallas, Texas. Do to very little available time to work on this video I rushed in post so this video is not perfect, example, email address in it is our old one so it wont work. darkimageproductions817@hotmail The event was a first for me and to be honest, it overwhelmed me when I got there. It was so big that I did not know where or how to start. LOL One of the cameras was a Nikon D300s and when you record with a DSLR you really need a tipod which it was the only thing I forgot to bring with me that day. You will notice why I need a tripod in lots of the clips. I still need to learn how to use this camera for video but it is what it is. I hope you enjoy!! Special Thanks to TinoX Beatz & The Progress for the beat! Special Thanks to Tiffany Truong for making this event happen and everything she does it for!

cazillo.com I had way too many requests that I couldn’t ignore last week when I showed you my photos from Red Rock Canyon outside of Las Vegas Nevada. So for all you that requested it…here you go! First, as always, we need to start with a good histogram and well exposed image. The first photo has very little contrast but a very good starting point. There is plenty of data to work with, especially from a RAW file, it just needed to be moved around. The second I thought was a complete goner. Unfortunately it was overexposed, skies almost gone with cloud cover and a histogram pushed way to far to the right. Check out the video to see how I created both of these images…enjoy!
