DIY KronoX Camera Slider – $22

02 Feb

This is part one demonstrating the construction of the slider and information you will need to know. Part two is simply the test footage shot using the slider along with an audio test of how much sound this design may or may not produce. This is my own design that I developed with the idea…
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Yeah, I do believe that is a 3/4″ coupler. Essentially I removed the tripod head from the top of a cheap tripod by drilling out the rivet holding the base of it in place. Then I drilled a hole through the top center of the pivot base and then through the cutting board. Ran my bolt down through and tightened it all down with a nut. That way the bolt head does not stick up high and I can still pivot it around. Hope that helps. 😉

Cant get all the parts for it in UK. But I like the style and quality of the build. So I am hoping that some of your future ideas may prove useful. THEREFORE I am going to subscribe to your channel.

Nice demo but I could use some help putting the top plate together. That seems pretty advanced and you just jump cut past that detail. How did you mount the tripod head to the cutting board? Is that another 3/4″ piece on there? Any help would be appreciated.

Use silicone spray. Spray on a rag then apply. It dries non-greasy, won’t attract and hold dust. Do any painting first cuz it won’t adhere to the silicone.

fair point, especialy if you are going to touching the slide pipe

I actually would not recommend that. WD40 is very toxic and is actually used to degrease. It may make it slide better at first, but would pose a health risk if and when touched.

use WD40 on the slider pipes and spread it all down the pipes with a rag………no noise

Well I guess those young kids will have to eliminate using a DIY slider like yours or mine. They produce enough noise to be picked up by the camera mic.
Unless they make one using wheels? Either way, DIY is cool. Thanks for your input.

Hey I checked out your slider and it does look good but its no reason to try and put down an idea. Noise may or may not be an issue for some but there is a good chance a lot of people, possibly younger people, creating videos, have no choice but to capture audio with their camera. There is also a chance that if when doing a sliding shot and recording dialogue separately away from the camera, it could possibly be picked up by the mic depending on just how loud it is. Thanks.

who really cares about the noise? Think about it, your slider shots are usually going to be accompanied by music…I highly doubt you will use the sound from the camera on the slider.

Overall it’s really cool. My only gripe is the fact that it sits up way too high. Very bulky as well.
I just made another diy that cost $20 from Home depot parts. No pvc required and it actually looks more legit. Mine isn’t perfect but I’m still working to improve. Check it out when you can, I called it the Silver Slider and also check out my diy stabilizer ‘Silver Flyer’. haha, my own JMZ films signature series.

Walking up to people and asking them if I can take their picture is very hard for me, but without doing it I feel like a ninja paparazzo and that is not the way to go. I agree with Mark that your camera should be a part of your routine so no technical challenges interrupt the conversation with your subject. Thanks for your video, Mark.

Asking someone is pointless, and defies the point of street photography. It’s about capturing the moment, and asking someone to take a photo tempts them to pose and it doesn’t have the same emotion or feeling behind it.

I start shooting Parade, Carnivals, Festivals and there you can find a lot of subjects, people and everyone wants you to take their pics and that is where you learn and understand great lesson of street photography.

Model release!? There is no such thing in street photography. In a public place one cannot expect privacy, if you take a photo you own all rights unless decided otherwise in a contract

Do you recommend a spy lens for capturing street photography? It definitely cuts out any social aspect of getting the shot. It seems like it would make it less intrusive and easier.

It would be brilliant if it was this easy to do in Australia, but people are so paranoid about what photographers are up to, and if you try to engage them they think you are trying to sell them something. 🙁
