RESEARCH: Interactive 360º Light Field Display

School of Cinematic Arts professor Mark Bolas, along with Andrew Jones, Paul Debevec from ICT, Ian McDowall (Fakespace Labs), and Hideshi Yamada (Sony), are awarded “Best Emerging Technology” at Siggraph 2007 for their display that provides a stereoscopic image that can viewed as a person walks around the display. ict.usc.edu More information and higher quality video available here: gl.ict.usc.edu

The English-born actress who rose to fame in her role in the film “National Velvet” at age 12 went on to act in over 50 films throughout her lifetime, most notably “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and “Cleopatra”. Equally famous for her numerous marriages (eight in all) Taylor lived her life according to the beat of her own drum, and seldom felt the need to explain herself. In later years, she was instrumental in championing the continuation of AIDS research and awareness. *It has been said that Taylor had a genetic mutation which caused her to grow double eyelashes in each eye, a mutation which may also have made her susceptible to the congestive heart failure which eventually claimed her on March 23, 2011 at the age of 79.

NYC Ghosts and Flowers

Der Künstler Edgar Leciejewski lebt und arbeitet in Leipzig. Hier entstand auch seine Serie NYC Ghosts and Flowers. Für die Streetfotos der ganz anderen Art musste er nicht nach New York fliegen, sondern erstellte die Bilder von zu Hause aus mit Hilfe von Google Street View.

Die von der Suchmaschine zensierten und entpersonalisierten Gesichter inspirierten ihn. “Sie wirken geisterhaft und werden so zu Symbolen und Projektionsflächen”, so Edgar.

Für ihn ist New York eine Stadt der flüchtigen und genauen Blicke. Die Bilder für sein Projekt stammen aus Haarlem, Brooklyn, Manhattan und Queens – Orte, an denen er während seines Studienaufenthaltes 2010 selbst war.

Die Bilder wurden nach der Auswahl noch bearbeitet, störende Details hat er entfernt und den passende Ausschnitt gewählt.

Edgar Leciejewski sieht Google Street View nicht als das Böse, als das es oft dargestellt wird. Für ihn schafft das Projekt eine Sammlung vom Leben im 21. Jahrhundert. Gleichzeitig verweist er auf die Anfänge der Fotografie. Viele Fotografen haben damals Archive angelegt um zum Beispiel Pflanzen (Karl Blossfeldt, Anna Atkin) oder auch Stadtansichten (Eugène Atget) zu sammeln.

Flash Animation Tutorial: Part 1

This is part 1 of my 3 part series on Flash Animation. After several requests, I made a tutorial explaining some of the techniques that I use to make my animations. This part 1 is for complete noobs who are new to flash. After watching this, you will be able to make simple stick fighting animations. I will also make a tutorial on 3D Perspective animation and a special effects tutorial, which will also contain more stick fighting moves.
