Photoshop/LightRoom 3 Tutorial: Down to the Basics pt. 1

12 Jan

A friend recently brought up the idea of making a “basics of…” tutorial for those out there who are very very new to both LR3 and Photoshop CS5, I thought it was a great idea so I’m making a few videos, right now its looking like it’ll be 3 or 4 parts, part 1 deals with LR3 only, Parts 2, 3 and maybe if needed part 4 will be on Photoshop. If you have any questions please comment and I will respond. MOST OF ALL: If you have any ideas or anything that you want to see me do a tutorial on please please please PLEASE comment on either my channel or preferably one of my tutorial videos, if I know how to do what you want to see I will gladly make a tutorial, and if I do not, I will do my best to find out how to do it and then make a tutorial I am always looking for new video Ideas so just shoot anything my way! Please check out my blog at LukeSchneiderPhotography.Blogspot.com and my flickr at http

Time lapse Morpho butterfly emerging from chrysalis. The butterfly emerged early in the morning. I used a growlight with timer to simulate sunrise and to stimulate the butterfly emerge within a certain time of the morning. I am grateful to the the Stratford Butterfly House for providing healthy chrysalis and advice. Nikon 300mm f/4 effects of not having 39mm drop in filter.

12 Jan

This is the information off of Ken Rockwell’s website. ” The internal filter should remain in place because the presence or absence of the filter changes the effective (optical) distance to the film plane by a tiny amount. Don’t worry about this, but please leave the filter holder in place. The change in effective path length is the thickness of the filter x ([the filter glass’ index of refraction] -1 ). A typical index of refraction is about 1.5, so you change the effective distance to the film by about half the thickness of the filter. Of course the same effect happens with filters in front of your lens, but no one notices when you change the distance to a subject by a millimeter. In lens design, moving the film plane a mm can make a difference, but not much with telephotos. You can confirm this effect if you focus on a distant object and note the indication on the focus scale. Now remove the internal filter, refocus, and you will note that the focus scale indicates a different distance when focused on the same object. ” All information is copyrighted by Ken Rockwell at www.kenrockwell.com

D3100 Examples of high ISO settings star photos

11 Jan

Just a quick example of the different ISO settings I have attempted to use in my attempts to carry out time lapse of the star filled night sky. This is an FYI just to give you an idea of the quality that you can capture using ISO 1600 or ISO 1800 and also the difference in the amount of stars you can pick up. Shutter speed obviously plays a part as well but this video is to highlight what you could expect from higher ISO settings in regards to capturing stars at night. Hope it helps. Camera used Nikon D3100 DSLR

PATROUILLE DE FRANCE Socoa septembre 2010

11 Jan

Demonstration de la patrouille de France ce septembre 2010.Team Leader: commandant Virginie Guyot.Music: Shoot to Thrill from AC/DC. My first plane video with Sony Z7 not ready as i was taken by surprise by the show in front of my house!!! i rushed with 20kg of gear to the beach side in the bay of St Jean de Luz.for the Z7 focus locked on infinity and manual exposure measured and locked exposed for the white to be safe, manual zoom because electronic zoom not ready on button so shaky when zooming or dezooming.once you loose the plane on viewfinder it is very difficult to catch up so immense concentration.i was shooting at the same time stills with tripod gitzo+wimberley head zoom nikon 200-400 ,1.4x extender and D300.i had to skip the tripod for fhe Z7 because i couldn t follow up hi above me.so i did 3/4 of it hand held.it was hectic jumping from one camera to another one as i was missing action at the same time on the Z7 while shooting stills.the shakyness is increased by the fact that i had to accelerate the speed of the rushes during edit otherwise the relative speed of the plane make it very slow on the screen and the action would have been sluggish. so it is fine from close on a 15 inch screen but from 20 inches it is better to put space between viewer and screen.the cloudy stills are from the previous day, training in fact!you learn everyday!! lots of excuses-hope you enjoyed it! Agur,Jean-Claude.
