Boeing’s new and very shiny 737 MAX 9 is a pretty cool plane. And so is the equally new and equally shiny 787-10. And in Boeing’s latest promotional video you can see its two newest airliners flying together in close formation, ahead of the annual Paris Air Show.
Does this video have anything to do with photography? Absolutely not. But you should watch it anyway.

Eager to get your hands on a Leica M10? While the camera itself hasn’t yet started shipping, a smaller, much cheaper rendition of it has appeared online: a 16GB USB flash drive in the shape of a tiny M10. The dongle is made from molded rubber and includes a keyring. Several online retailers are listing the USB drive, including B&H Photo, the Leica Store in Miami, Amazon, and Adorama. The unit is priced at $ 45.

Photographer Paul Kohlhausen has created what he calls a ‘really precisely engineered box,’ the PK-6142016 ‘Cycloptic Mustard Monster’ medium format analog camera. Kohlhaussen designed the camera himself using Autodesk Fusion 360 and produced it via a 3D printer and SLS polyamide material. The Cycloptic Mustard Monster utilizes 120mm film and produces 6×14 cm negatives.
Kohlhausen detailed the camera on his website, where he explains that he used a Schneider Kreuznach 90mm f/8 Super Angulon lens designed for 4×5 cameras, with focusing being possible via fixed spacer brackets. Camera features include a viewfinder and a removable top plate for inserting film. In an interview with The Phoblographer, Kohlhaussen stated that he is considering launching the product on Kickstarter, but difficulties sourcing the aforementioned lens may be a hindrance.

Few things are as unshakable as the bond between humanity and our canine companions, except, perhaps, the bond between those canine companions and some good old tennis balls. Of course, the Sony X3000 action camera has optical stabilization, so it should be pretty unshakable too, but you’ll just have to watch the video to find out how it does.
The video is part of an action camera roundup The Wirecutter did earlier this year, which includes the GoPro Hero5 Black, the Sony FDR-X3000 that’s used above, and the Yi 4K Action Camera, which was actually one of our favorites.

Japanese makers of minimalist household goods and apparel at MUJI began designing and developing a series of small prefab homes a few years back, one of which is now slated to hit the market later this year.
At just under 100 square feet, the first model to hit the sales floor is a simple but elegant module wrapped in charred timber with floor-to-ceiling fenestration on one side. This traditional blackened-wood cladding technique helps finish the wood, protecting it from fire and decay.
Inside, bright wood paneling and solid walls on three sides make for a cozy interior and flexibility to situate the structure facing choice scenery. The smooth floor is designed to be easily cleaned for those trekking in and out. Outside, a small covered deck extends the space.
The relatively low cost (around $ 27K USD) includes both materials and labor (construction) costs. The structure is intended to serve any function needed, from weekend getaway or supplemental room to autonomous housing unit for fans of simple homes and small-space living.
“It’s not as dramatic as owning a house or a vacation home, but it’s not as basic as going on a trip,” explains MUJI. “Put it in the mountains, near the ocean, or in a garden, and it immediately blends in with the surroundings, inviting you to a whole new life.”

Action cameras have made documenting all of the extreme, dangerous and downright stupid things human beings subject themselves to an incredibly simple endeavor. But the truth is most folks’ videos end up looking more like this than like this, because sadly, our lives are just not as interesting as those of pro athletes.
But every now and then something happens during a seemingly run-of-the-mill action camera video that makes every mundane clip that preceded it suddenly feel worth the boredom. I give you, the bear chasing a mountain biker video:
The footage was shot by Dusan Vinžíkwho who was riding with a buddy at a mountain bike park in Slovakia, when suddenly a bear runs out on the trail – it seemingly follows the one rider for a bit before veering off back into the woods.
Of course, there’s a good chance the bear was not actually chasing the rider, and that its presence was purely coincidentally. But the fact remains: keep those action cameras running, because you might actually get something good.

A new device called Trophy Camera uses artificial intelligence to compare its own photographs with the world’s most iconic images. During the comparison, Trophy Camera’s AI looks for specific characteristics common in photographs that have won World Press Photo yearly since 1955. Photos that show at least a 90-percent positive correlation with these notable characteristics are then uploaded to the camera’s own automated website. It’s a bit similar in spirit to Camera Restricta, a concept camera that uses GPS to prevent its user from taking clichéd photos.
Trophy Camera was created by media artist Dries Depoorter and PhD student/photographer Max Pinckers. Speaking to Co.design, Depoorter and Pinckers explain that their camera is a sort of commentary on what they see as the redundant photography produced by the ‘more automatized’ cameras that are becoming increasingly popular.
Elaborating on that, Pinckers said:
Press photography appears to be becoming a self-referential medium dominated by tropes, archetypes, and pop-culture references. What implications does this have on how we learn about the world through the images we are being shown? …By making this camera, we try to implicitly comment on the current status of photojournalism–which seems to be becoming more questionable in today’s visual landscape–along with the incredibly fast development of computer vision and the relevance of artificial intelligence in our time.
The camera itself is made from a Raspberry Pi Zero W, the computer’s Full HD camera module, a 128 x 32 monochrome OLED display, and a 5000mAh powerbank. Trophy Camera is currently part of an exhibition where photographs are taken; most of them are blurry and less than ‘notable,’ as shown on the camera’s automated website.

You can pick your favorite symbol of springtime from any number of familiar images. In Seattle, the local favorite is a rain-soaked figure clutching a latte with a cold, dead look in their eyes. But it’s hard to beat the natural beauty and optimism of a blooming flower. That’s the imagery that dominates filmmaker Jamie Scott’s recent time-lapse titled ‘Spring,’ a follow-up to his popular video ‘Fall’ of a couple of years ago.
He gives FStoppers a fascinating look at what it takes to create a time-lapse of this scope. Not surprisingly, a lot of patience and hard drive space were involved. Watch the video, check out the behind-the-scenes and let us know what you think in the comments.

YouTube channel DailyTekk has put together a mockup of the yet-to-be-announced iPhone 8 based on the rumors flying around. What will it look like? Will it even be called the iPhone 8? It’s all pure speculation at this point, but let’s go ahead and imagine life with a bezel-less iPhone.
