Google shares Glass tech specs ahead of launch

As Google Glass beta testers – so-called ‘Explorers’ – prepare to receive the first round of the wearable augmented reality tech, Google is also bracing the rest of us for what’s to come. The company is pushing the Glass announcements this week with the release of the MyGlass app in the Google Play store and the developer preview of the Mirror API, along with the most revealing tech specs we’ve seen yet. Computer History Museum shares original Adobe Photoshop source code

The source code of the original version of Adobe Photoshop has been made available by The Computer History Museum, based in California. Photoshop started off in the 1980s as a program called ‘Display’ written by Thomas Knoll, before being renamed ‘Photoshop’ in 1990 – the year that the first version of the software shipped to customers. The download, which is available for non-commercial use with the permission of Adobe, consists of around 128,000 lines of code. High-speed macro photographer shares his setup

German photographer Markus Reugels has gained quite a bit of attention over the years for his stunning and colorful high-speed photographs of the shapes and forms created when liquid is dropped into water. If you’ve ever been curious as to what it takes to get images like these, Reugels talks briefly about the equipment and technique he’s currently using and shares an image of his actual setup.

Tokyo Stock Exchange places Olympus shares ‘under supervision’

Olympus’s woes have deepened after the Tokyo Stock Exchange placed its shares ‘under supervision’ and warned of possible delisting. The news follows the admission that senior executives colluded for decades to hide investment losses from the market, and a subsequent statement from Olympus that it would not be able to submit its quarterly earnings report on schedule. The TSE has warned that the company will be delisted if the report is not submitted by 14th December, prompting a further fall in its shares which have now lost almost two-thirds of their value over the past month.

Nikon shares rise as Nikkei suggests mirrorless launch

12 Sep

Nikon shares have risen on rumors of the launch of a mirrorless camera. A report by Japanese financial paper Nikkei (Nihon Keizai Shimbum) suggested the company will launch a camera at a price of around $ 900-$ 1300. This was enough to prompt Nikon to take the unusual step of issuing a statement saying it had not announced any such camera. Shares closed 10% higher than on September 6th, boosted by the rumors.
