Nikon-Walkley Photographic Awards 2009

The Nikon-Walkley Photographic Awards are the most prestigious competition for press photographers in Australia. Nikon proudly sponsors awards in five categories including daily life, sport, news and photographic essay. The coveted 2009 Nikon-Walkley Press Photographer of the Year was awarded to Renee Nowytarger from The Australian, for her body of work which the judges praised as rounded and versatile. Exhibition Review: Yul Brynner – A Photographic Journey

As well as starring roles in films such as ‘The King and I’, and ‘The Ten Commandments’, Yul Brynner was an accomplished photographer whose subjects were some of the most acclaimed actors of the 20th century. ‘A Photographic Journey’, in London’s The Little Black Gallery showcases some of his most famous images, and Matt Golowczynski went along to take a look.

For professional photographers few tools are as important as lighting equipment. From tungsten to electronic flash, even HMI, little has fundamentally changed over the years and even decades.

But now there’s a new kid on the block – LED lighting. One of the pioneers of LED photographic lighting technology is Scott Geffert, and today he provides us with an exclusive essay on the history of lighting equipment, and what we can expect from LEDs in The Next Chapter in Photographic Lighting.
