Z Camera launches Micro Four Thirds E1 camera with 4K video and open platform

Z Camera, a China-based photography startup, has introduced a connected Micro Four Thirds camera called the E1. Shaped like GoPro’s HERO action cameras, the E1 carries a 16MP Four Thirds sensor and can record video at 4K 4096×2160 resolution. It provides Wi-Fi connectivity and an open platform for developers. Read more

ZTE launches Axon Pro with 13MP dual cam

ZTE has launched its new high-end device, the Axon Pro, which appears to be specifically designed with the US market in mind. In the camera department the new model comes with a dual-camera setup, similar to the one we’ve seen in the HTC One (M8). However, at 13MP the ZTE’s main camera comes with a considerably higher pixel count than the 4MP HTC. Read more

Red launches firmware 6.0 with stills-focused features

Red has launched firmware version 6.0.23 for its cameras, a significant update over previous version 5.3.42 that brings some useful features for still photography. Included is a Motion + Stills mode that makes it possible to mark frames for still extraction while recording video. Read more

Toshiba TransferJet 16GB SDHC card launches July 31 in Japan

Following some trade show demos, Toshiba is officially introducing a new 16GB SDHC card with TransferJet technology. The card, which looks to be available in Japan only first, is able to wirelessly transfer photos and videos from a camera to a TransferJet-compatible device. Read more

Manfrotto launches XPRO Ball Head

Manfrotto has launched the XPRO Ball Head in the UK, joining existing fluid and geared heads in the XPRO lineup. It is offered with Arca-Swiss compatible Top Lock and 200PL camera plates and features a spherical locking mechanism alongside a Triple Locking System, the latter of which stabilizes the camera’s position and keeps it from drifting via a trio of wedges. Venus Optics launches Laowa 15mm F4, the world’s widest macro lens

Chinese lens manufacturer Anhui ChangGeng Optical Technology Company Limited has introduced what it describes as the world’s widest 1:1 macro lens. The Venus Optics Laowa 15mm F4 is designed for full frame sensor cameras and can focus down to just 12cm from the front element, and is equipped with a +/-6mm shift function for architectural work at normal focusing distances.
