Tenba launches new Ridged Lens Capsule line, two new Gear Pouches

Tenba has announced the arrival of Ridged Lens Capsules, a collection of five individual lens cases designed to keep lenses safe and sound in storage and travel, as well as a pair of Gear Pouches, both of which feature a clear window on the front to identify what gear is stored inside.

Ridged Lens Capsules are available in five sizes, from compact pancake lenses, all the way up to a 200-400mm zoom. The Lens Capsules feature moulded tops and bottoms and include a dedicated secure loop strap that makes it easy to attach them to MOLLE webbing on backpacks or directly onto various belt systems. Each of the Lens Capsules feature an included microfiber cloth that’s hidden inside a pocket on the lid.

Tenba uses YKK zippers, a padded interior, a soft lining and include a dedicated handle on the top for easy removal and transport. There’s even an included microfiber cloth in a secure pocket on the lid of each Lens Capsule.

The various sizes of Ridged Lens Capsules are as follows:

• 9x9cm (3.5×3.5in) — £18 ($ 20.95 USD)
• 13x9cm (5×3.5in) — £20 ($ 22.95 USD)
• 15x11cm (6×4.5in) — £31 ($ 35.95 USD)
• 23x12cm (9×4.8in) — £32.50 ($ 37.95 USD)

The two new gear pouches are small bags designed to hold anything from small lenses to cables and audio equipment. Both pouches feature a clear TPU window to make it easy to see what’s packed inside.

The two Gear Pouches, which come in 19.05cm (7.5in) and 29.21cm (11.5in) sizes, are blue and sold in a set for £20 ($ 24.95 USD).

Zhong Yi Optics launches Mitakon Speedmaster 65mm F1.4 lens for Fujifilm GFX

Zhong Yi Optics has launched the Mitakon Speedmaster 65mm F1.4 for Fujifilm GFX cameras. This announcement makes Zhong Yi Optics the first third-party manufacturer to develop a lens for Fujifilm’s G mount and gives them the claim — for the time being — of having the fastest standard lens designed specifically for GFX medium format mirrorless camera systems.

The lens provides a 46-degree angle of view, roughly equivalent to a 50mm lens on a 35mm full-frame camera. It’s constructed of eleven elements in seven groups and has a minimum focusing distance of 70cm.

The Mitakon Speedmaster 65mm F1.4 features an aperture range of F1.4 through F16 via its nine-blade aperture diaphragm. The front filter thread measures in at 72mm and the whole lens weighs 1,050g.

Instagram launches Close Friends list for story sharing

Many Instagram users aim for a large number of followers. However, sometimes you’d like to share an Instagram moment with just your closest friends and not hundreds or thousands of followers, most of whom you probably don’t know.

This is now possible, thanks to a new feature announced by Instagram today: Close Friends lets you share stories with a select group of people instead of all your followers.

Instagram says Close Friends gives you the “flexibility to share more personal moments with a smaller group that you choose.”

To do so, you create a close friends-list and at the time of posting your story select the option to only share with the people on that list. You’ll find the option to add people to the close friends-list in the side-menu.

Your list can only be seen by yourself. When someone has added you to their list, you will see a green badge when you viewing their stories and a green ring around their profile photo in the Stories tray.

Close Friends is now rolling out globally on the latest versions of the Instagram iPhone and Android apps.

CyberLink launches subscription-based PhotoDirector 365 with premium add-ons

CyberLink has launched PhotoDirector 365, a new Windows program that is effectively a subscription version of the company’s PhotoDirector Ultra image editing software. The new option provides customers with unlimited access to the software’s premium add-ons, new style packs that are released quarterly, templates, and all new feature updates as they become available.

PhotoDirector 365 includes the new features found in PhotoDirector 10 Ultra, including AI Style Effects and tethered shooting. Other PhotoDirector tools, such as Layer Packs, Keystone Correction, and HDR, are also available. With the addition of all the add-ons, CyberLink says PhotoDirector 365 subscribers get access to “hundreds of dollars’ worth of unique tools” over time.

Whereas PhotoDirector 10 costs $ 99.99 USD for new customers to purchase, PhotoDirector 365 is available with a monthly cost of $ 14.99 USD, a quarterly cost of $ 29.99, or an annual cost of $ 54.99, depending on which plan the customer signs up for. PhotoDirector 365 joins CyberLink’s Director Suite 365, which bundles PhotoDirector with three of the company’s other software products for an annual cost of $ 129.99 USD.

Nauticam launches underwater housing for Nikon Z7 and Z6 mirrorless cameras

Underwater housing manufacturer Nauticam hasn’t taken long to create a new unit designed for owners of Nikon’s new full frame mirrorless cameras. The Nauticam NA-Z7 can accommodate either the Z7 or Z6, and enables users to take them down to 100m/330ft beneath the waves.

The housing accepts cameras mounted with the new Z lenses, but as most users will have a collection of F mount lenses these can also be used via the FTZ adapter. Two lens release buttons have been incorporated into the design so both kinds of lens can be switched without the camera needing to be removed from the housing. If you want to take the adapter off, or indeed fit it, the camera will need to be removed.

While the button layout of the new Z cameras is somewhat different to that of models like the D850, Nauticam has worked hard to ensure users of this new housing won’t struggle to adapt. The company has managed to keep the main controls in the same locations on the housing even though the buttons they give access to have moved. For example, the magnify controls have been kept on the right of the housing, where users of the N120 series housings would expect to find them, despite the fact that the actual buttons on the camera are now on the right of the LCD.

Picfair launches ‘Plus’ subscription with custom online stores for photographers

On September 10, stock image company Picfair introduced a new option for photographers to showcase their work called Picfair Stores. The online storefronts went live for all users a couple weeks later and are now joined by a new subscription option called Picfair Plus. Customers who sign up for Plus get access to new features, including support for custom templates and custom domains.

The free Picfair product enables users to create their own online store with custom prices for image sales. Picfair Plus builds upon that, enabling customers to connect the store to a custom domain, add social media profiles, eliminate Picfair branding, sort content into albums, choose design themes, and set up custom image ordering on the store’s home page. Below is a comparison of the free and Plus versions of Picfair Stores.

In addition to the new features, Plus customers get early access to new future features and highest priority customer service. Lomography launches new 35mm monochrome film stock cut from German cine film rolls

The film photography enthusiasts over at Lomography have launched a new film, Lomography Black & White 400 35mm Berlin Kino Film.

Inspired by the New German Cinema sweeping through Berlin in the 1960s, this film is extracted from a roll of cine film produced by a legendary German company that has been changing the face of cinema since the early 1900s,” reads the product description. “Originally used to make moody monochrome movies, its gorgeous black and white tones lend a timeless effect to cinematic scenes.”

The film has a native sensitivity of ISO 400, but Lomography says it can be pushed to ISO 800, 1,600, or 3,200 while still retaining a solid tonal range with minimal grain.

The Berlin Kino Film can be developed by professional labs or at home using standard black and white developers, including Kodak D-76, Kodak HC-110, Iford Ilfosol-3, and even Rollei’s Black & White Reversal Kit if you’re wanting to get a little wild and turn the negatives into positives.

Benro launches RedDog R1, a 3-axis gimbal stabilizer with convertible handle

Benro has launched the RedDog R1, its new 3-axis gimbal stabilizer with a swivel handle that supports two usage modes: upright and carry. A button on the stabilizer’s handle enables users to rapidly switch from upright to carry mode for shots at waist height and lower. When not in use, the R1’s handle collapses for enhanced portability.

The RedDog R1 features a CNC-machined body and support for cameras weighing up to 2.9lbs / 1.3kg, as well as a silicone grip, up to 12 hours of battery life per charge, and an included quick storage case. The device is calibrated and updated using the Benro RedDog mobile app, which also works as a remote control.

The stabilizer offers three shooting modes: Universal Follow, Locked-Down, and Horizontal Follow. With these, users can set the stabilizer to keep the camera locked on a subject while ensuring movements are smooth and stable. Other features include a directional button, threaded receiver for attachments, and a 1/4″-20 threaded hole for mounting the stabilizer on a tripod.

Cinemartin launches Fran cameras with 8K global shutter and RAW support

Cinemartin has announced the launch of Fran LT, Fran (STD), and Fran Plus, three new 8K camera models offered at introductory prices until December 31, 2019. The company also plans to start shipping a new line of ultra-high brightness 2500 nit 7″ HDMI+SDI monitors by the end of the month.

The Fran LT is the lineup’s introductory model, featuring a 24MP sensor, maximum 7920 x 3024 resolution, and aluminum chassis. The mid-tier Fran (STD) is more advanced with a 32MP sensor, maximum 7920 x 4096 resolution, and mixed aluminum and carbon fiber chassis. The line’s most advanced model, the Fran Plus, has a 47.7MP sensor, maximum 7920 x 6024 resolution, and fully carbon fiber body.

All three models feature an 8K global shutter with support for shooting raw, though only the two higher-end models support both compressed and uncompressed raw. The Fran (STD) and Fran Plus both support 8K/30p maximum frame rates, while the Fran LT maxes out at 8K/24p. Unlike the Fran LT model, the Fran (STD) and Fran Plus feature a removable lens mount, PL mount, Thunderbolt 3, stabilization, and modular design. All three support removable m.2 NVME SSD drives.

The Fran Plus is the only model of the three that is programmable, which according to Cinemartin, means users can utilize OpenCV-based code for new features. One provided example is using a plugin to identify an on-screen car’s shape and color in order to automatically present the driver’s name on the display. The company includes sample code with the camera.

Cinemartin is offering the three new models at discounted introductory prices until December 31 or when inventory runs out, whichever happens first. Buyers can order the camera through the Fran 8K website or via Cinemartin’s authorized resellers. An initial deposit must be paid to reserve the cameras, which will be available in two to four months depending on model.

Dubblefilm launches new Jelly film with bright pre-exposed colors

Analog photography company Dubblefilm has unveiled a new film stock called Jelly. This 35mm C-41 200 ISO pre-exposed film adds highly saturated blue, red, green, orange, and yellow colors to photos, the effect being random through the film to offer “the purest form of serendipity.” Some parts of the film lack tint for “occasional bits of reality creep through,” the company explains.

This is the 5th film Dubblefilm has launched in collaboration with European company KONO! The Reanimated Film. Jelly can be processed and scanned by “any mini-lab,” according to the company, which is offering the product for €12.00/USD$ 13.50 per 24 exposure roll through Dubblefilm’s website and at select retailers.
