Leica Q unveiled with 24MP full-frame sensor and fixed 28mm F1.7 lens

Leica has just introduced the Q (Typ 116), a full-frame compact camera with a fixed, stabilized 28mm F1.7 Summilux lens. It offers a 24MP CMOS sensor and a 3″ 1.04M dot touch-sensitive LCD. A built-in LCoS EVF offers an equivalent resolution of 3.68MP, and the Q skips a built-in flash but provides a standard hot shoe. Video recording at 1080/60p and built-in Wi-Fi are also offered. Sony a7R II has 42.4MP on 4K-capable full-frame BSI CMOS sensor

Sony has announced the a7R II, a 42.4MP mirrorless camera with an image stabilized full-frame BSI CMOS sensor. Unlike its predecessor, the camera includes on-sensor phase detection elements for faster autofocus, which continues to work with other brands’ lenses. The camera also has a revised shutter mechanism, rated to 500,000 actuations but also promising less vibration than the one on its predecessor. Click through for full details

Zeiss offers full-frame E-mount ‘Batis’ 25mm F2 and 85mm F1.8 lenses

Zeiss has revealed two new full-frame lenses for Sony’s E-mount system, the Batis 2/25 and 1.8/85. They offer autofocus, and are the first Zeiss-produced FE-style lenses to do so. Each lens barrel contains an OLED displaying focus distance and depth of field. A linear motor AF drive keeps operation quiet, and both lenses are sealed against dust and moisture. Read more

We recently returned from the CP+ show in Yokohama, Japan, where we sat down with Kazunobu Saiki – General Manager of the Marketing Communication Department, in the Global Marketing Division of Ricoh Imaging. Sony adds wide-angle and fisheye adapters for full-frame and APS-C lenses

Sony has officially announced four new conversion lenses – two for full-frame and two for APS-C – that can be screwed onto a select group of lenses. On the full-frame side there are ultra-wide and fisheye adapters for the new FE 28mm F2, which drop the focal range to 21mm and 16mm, respectfully. The adapters for APS-C lenses – the 20mm F2.8 and 16mm F2.8 specifically – and reduce the focal lengths by 0.75X for the ultra-wide adapter and 0.6X for the fisheye. More details.

Sony releases 28mm, 35mm, and 90mm macro full-frame primes

Three full-frame prime lenses on Sony’s lens roadmap officially arrived today which, including the 24-240, brings the total number of FE lenses to eleven. The least expensive of the trio is the 28mm F2 lens, which also supports ultra-wide and fisheye adapters. Next is the long-awaited Zeiss 35mm F1.4 ZA, which is Sony’s fastest FE lens to date. Close-up shooters will be interested in the new 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS lens, which uses a Direct Drive SSM mechanism for ultra-precise focusing. More details here.

Konost full-frame digital rangefinder in the pipeline for 2016

An American start-up company is promising to bring a full frame digital rangefinder camera to market for early 2016. The Konost FF will be a 20-million-pixel metal bodied M-mount camera equipped with a 4″ LCD. The company has said that the rangefinder system will operate not with mirrors and prisms, as most rangefinders do, but with twin imaging sensors that overlay their images to produce the same dual image effect in the viewfinder. Read more

CP+ 2015: Ricoh gets serious with new Pentax full-frame zooms

We’re at CP+ in Yokohama Japan, where Ricoh is showing off two new Pentax lenses designed for full-frame imaging. Although the company’s upcoming full-frame DSLR is still in the mockup stage, the D FA* 70-200mm F2.8ED DC AW and D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW are very real indeed. We snuck into the show early this morning before the crowds arrived, to take a look. Click through for more details and images.

CP+ 2015: Up close and personal with Ricoh’s full-frame Pentax mockup

After announcing the development of a full-frame DSLR recently, Ricoh is showing a very early mockup at the CP+ show in Yokohama Japan. Although details are extremely limited (limited, in fact, to the words ‘Full-frame’ in the press release and ‘Pentax’ written on the front) Ricoh’s mockup does give some clues as to the camera’s specification. Nikon aims for the stars with the D810A, world’s first full-frame astrophotography camera

Nikon has announced the D810A: the first full-frame astrophotography-specific camera. This is the largest sensor to appear in a consumer astrophotography camera, bringing improved light capture capabilities to the discipline. It’s essentially a Nikon D810 with a modified IR-cut filter to ensure the camera can capture light emitted by nebulae and additional features to support long exposure photography. Read more
