Fujifilm announces macro tubes, tethering software and X-series firmware availability

Fujifilm has unveiled two macro extension tubes for its X-series interchangeable lens cameras, as well as a launch date for the previously-promised Fujifilm X-T1 firmware. More firmware updates are also announced for the X-E2, X-E1, X-Pro1 and X-30, as well as the introduction of tethering software for PC. Read more

Sony announces Alpha 7 II full-frame mirrorless camera with 5-axis IS

Sony has announced its Alpha 7 II, which the company has managed to keep very close to its vest. The big story on this 24MP full-frame mirrorless is its 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization – the first that we’ve seen in a full-frame camera. Sony claims that this IS system can reduce shake by 4.5 stops using the CIPA standard. The Hybrid AF system has also been improved upon, offering 30% faster speeds and a 1.5X improvement in tracking. The a7 II also sports a larger grip, new front dial, and sensibly relocated shutter release. Read more.

Ricoh has announced the HD Pentax-DA 16-85mm F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR standard zoom. Covering an equivalent range of 24.5mm to 130mm, this lens uses Pentax’s HD coating to cut down on flare and ghosting and offers a weather-resistant construction. Panono announces pricing and availability for rolling ball camera

German startup Panono has announced availability and pricing for its ball-shaped Panono Camera. The device shoots spherical panorama images and will cost $ 549/€549 when it ships worldwide in the spring of 2015. The first to receive the camera will be the backers of the crowd-funding project the company used to get started before the camera goes on general release. Learn more

Natural History Museum announces Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2014 winners

The Natural History Museum has announced winners of its 2014 Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. This year’s winning photos document all manner of creatures, from a pride of lions in the Serengeti, to a yellow scorpion in the northeast of Spain. The competition recognizes both adult and youth winners and awards the top photo with £10,000 and a trophy. See gallery

Ricoh announces WG-30W and WG-30 rugged compacts

Ricoh has announced the WG-30W and WG-30, expanding its rugged compact camera lineup. The WG-30W provides Wi-Fi connectivity while the WG-30 doesn’t, but outside of that the two cameras are identical. Offering a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, the WG-30W is waterproof to a depth of 40ft / 12m, shockproof to 5ft / 1.5m, crushproof to 220lbf/100kgf and coldproof down to +14F/-10C. Read more

Adobe announces Camera Raw 8.7 and DNG Converter 8.7 release candidates

Adobe has announced the availability of Camera Raw 8.7 and DNG Converter 8.7 release candidates. This version adds support for the Nikon D750, Fujifilm X30 and the Sony a5100 among other camera models. A number of lens profiles are also added. GoPro announces Hero4 lineup

GoPro has announced its new lineup of Hero cameras. The Hero4 Black is a new flagship model capable of 4K video at 30 fps, and will allow for extraction of 8.3MP still images from 4K footage. The Hero4 Silver offers a touch sensitive display and records 2.7K at 30 fps, 1080 at 60 fps and 720 at 120 fps. Both models will be available October 5. Learn more

Adobe announces Photoshop Elements 13 and Premiere Elements 13

Adobe has announced new versions of its basic photo and video editing software, Photoshop Elements 13 and Premiere Elements 13. Photoshop Elements updates include a new Photomerge Compose tool for copying people or objects from one photo into another, and Premiere Elements gets an enhanced Shake Stabilizer mode designed to smooth out shaky video footage. Learn more
