15 Dec

I’m happy to announce the following Photo Tour schedule for 2011 and invite you to join me in photographing these inspiring & amazing locations. (see below)
For full details be sure to visit the JMG-Galleries Photo Tour page.

Gates of the Valley - Yosemite National park

Yosemite Winter Photography
March 11-13, 2011 – Max. 4 people
Join me in photographing one of the worlds most majestic and iconic landscapes in North America. Stellar views and a vast number of intimate nature subjects will allow all in attendance to witness nature at its best. Whether you’re looking to expand your portfolio or hone your photographic skills this photo tour is one you’ll not want to miss.

Yosemite Moonbow
May 17-19, 2011 – Max. 4 people
(actual full moon is on May 17)
Moonbow – A Rainbow by moonlight? Just when you thought Yosemite’s amazing landscape couldn’t get any more amazing, it takes on a new level of drama under a full moon. Nearly impossible to see with the naked eye the Moonbow phenomenon is revealed through the lens of your camera while photographing Yosemite’s iconic falls. Conditions to witness and photograph a Yosemite Moonbow are ideal only a few times a year and in May weather permitting we should be treated to an amazing light show. In between evening photo sessions by day we’ll conduct photo reviews and explore Yosemite’s iconic landscape.

White Sands by Moonlight
October 14-16, 2011 – Max. 4 people
White Sands National Monument is a feast for the creative eye and an incredible location to explore. The ever-changing dunes are a source of endless wonder and inspiration. This trip is timed to take advantage of the October Full Moon.

Note: This photo tour will involve desert camping assuming campgrounds are available and weather conditions permit. Also participants should be able and prepared to hike 2-4 miles into the dunes.

In addition if there is interest I will be accepting a sign-up for attendees who would like to extend their trip through the 18th to photograph the Egg Factory in the Bisti Badlands.

Death Valley Racetrack
October 27-30, 2011  – Max. 4 people
Rich in dramatic geological formations, amazing Southwest light and a fascinating history, Death Valley never ceases to amaze. This extreme environment provides numerous photographic opportunities for those with a passion for desert landscapes. Unique to this trip will be our effort to take full advantage of the October New Moon allowing us to enjoy star filled skies in an area that is one of the few remaining in California with little to no light pollution.

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 – Move Original Copies of Edited Photos to Recycle Bin after Awhile

30 Oct

If hard drive space is at a premium, place original copies of photos edited in Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 into the Recycle Bin for later emptying.

It is always recommended to make backup copies of photos before editing them. To help automate this process, as you edit photos in Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011, the software makes its own backup copies of originals. This way you can later revert the changes if you do not find the edits to your liking.

If you edit many photos using Photo Gallery 2011 and hard drive space is at a premium, you may decide that once you edit a photo and leave it edited for awhile without reverting to the original, you mean for the edit to stick. Or, you may make backup copies of photos before importing them into Photo Gallery 2011 and not need the tool to make its own copies. Thus you can automatically move original photos to the Recycle Bin after a given period of time by doing the following:…

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 – Order Prints of Your Digital Photos

24 Oct

Order prints of your digital photos for delivery or pick-up via Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011.

While many stores including photography, drug store, and big-box grocery chains offer kiosks where you can bring removable media containing your digital photos for printing, these are sometimes less than convenient. The machines may be slow or out of order, the lines long, and you might feel pressured to quickly scan through and choose your images while others wait behind you to do the same.

Many retailers offer digital photo printing services that you can access online, with printed photos available via delivery or pick-up. This way you can spend as much time as you need choosing your photos, print sizes, etc., and when you are done you upload your photos to the service. If you are on a high-speed Internet connection, upload time may be minimal, and the convenience may outweigh the upload time. And to make it even more convenient, Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 lets you perform this task directly inside the software. Here’s how:…

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 – Determine Tasks Auto Adjust Performs

18 Oct

When Auto Adjusting one photo or a group in Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011, determine what fixes are applied.

The “Auto Adjust” button in Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 is a quick way to “fix” a photo or selection of photos without going through a lot of options. Normally, clicking it straightens a photo, and also adjusts its color and exposure based on default settings.

If you don’t like some of the adjustments made, or if you also want to apply noise reduction when clicking the “Auto Adjust” button, make the following tweak:…

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 – Email Photos at Original or Smaller Sizes

16 Oct

E-mail photos managed in Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011, choosing to send them as bandwidth-hogging originals or reduced sizes.

Want to e-mail your friends, family, co-workers, etc. copies of some of your photos? It’s easy to do so via Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011. If desired, the software can resize photos smaller to save space and bandwidth. Note that this method requires you use client e-mail software, such as Microsoft Outlook.

1. Place checkmarks next to photos you wish to e-mail; hover over a photo for the checkbox to be available. As you check photos you will see them highlighted and bordered….
