By far the biggest lines at this year’s CP+ show in Yokohama are at the Canon booth, and they’re made up almost entirely of people eager to see just two cameras – the new EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R. Canon’s highest resolution DSLRs by far, both cameras offer an incredible 50MP pixel count, and almost identical ergonomics to the EOS 5D III. Click through for some hands-on pictures

Brutal London: Paper Miniatures of Concrete Architecture

14 Feb

[ By Steph in Drawing & Digital. ]

Rendered in minute detail right down to curtain colors, satellite dishes and graffiti, these paper miniatures mimic London’s iconic Brutalist buildings, including the Balfron Tower and Space House. Two housing blocks that have been at least partially demolished are among the 3D cut-out models celebrating and preserving these oft-maligned concrete structures.brutal london 2

Zupagrafika design studio carefully studied each building, taking photographs from all angles to capture the smallest details. The collection of five models is available for €5 each at their webshop, arriving in a flat pack so you assemble the components yourself. The kits include short notes on the architects, the year of construction and the location of each building.

The studio previously created paper cut-out models of modernist buildings in Warsaw as well as notable elements of the urban fabric throughout Poland that were first designed in the ’60s or ’70s, including advertising columns, cars, traffic lights and ticket validators.

Brutalist architecture is one of the 20th century’s most controversial styles, criticized for being too cold and confrontational and nearly always made of raw concrete. Maybe it’s not for everyone, but anyone with a soft spot for its harsh angles and unapologetically utilitarian nature can now create their own little cityscapes on a table or shelf.

The Droid you’re looking for? Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 review posted

14 Feb

The Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 is the second iteration of that manufacturer’s ultra-connected camera running full Android OS. It’s a 16MP camera with a 23-483mm equivalent lens that also happens to run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, though it lacks the 3G/4G connectivity of its predecessor and offers only Wi-Fi. Is this hybrid the best of both worlds, or does it come up short in the imaging department? Read review

Weekly Photography Challenge – Panning

14 Feb
Paolo Margari

By Paolo Margari

Earlier I shared some images created using the panning technique.

I love the dramatic feeling of motion that happens when everything comes together and it works. Panning isn’t easy to perfect though, it takes a little bit of practice. If you want some tips on how to do it, try these articles:

  • 3 Tips for Creating Dramatic Images using Motion
  • Using Slower Shutter Speeds to Show Motion in Your Images
  • Showing Speed: Using Panning When Shooting Action
  • Creative Reasons to use Intentional Camera Movement

As you might have guessed already – now it’s your turn!

Weekly challenge – panning

Here are a couple more examples, then it’s over to you.

Keep in mind you can do panning on anything that’s moving. Cars, kids, animals, carnival rides, playground rides, bikes, trikes, etc. – get creative with it.

Share your panning images here:

Simply upload your shot into the comment field (look for the little camera icon in the Disqus comments section) and they’ll get embedded for us all to see or if you’d prefer upload them to your favourite photo sharing site and leave the link to them. Show me your best images in this week’s challenge. Sometimes it takes a while for an image to appear so be patient and try not to post the same image twice.
