Episode 365 – 18-08-2004

12 Dec

Abhimanyu tells Simran about his dilemma regarding Gupta s offer. Neha asks him to go ahead but Simran says that he has derived better satisfaction from his present job than that of the glamourous job as a fashion photographer. Abhimanyu phones Gupta and informs him that he cannot accept the offer. Simran invites Abhimanyu and Neha for dinner. Gauri phones Simran to come for shopping but Simran mentions about the dinner. She invites Gauri and Manu too for dinner. Abhimanyu tells his mother that Neha is only a good friend. Simran prepares only Abhimanyu s favourite dishes. Seeing Abhimanyu and Simran talk personal matters, Manu walks away without informing her. Simran feels very bad.

Beyond Domes: 36 Photos of Burning Man Building Types

11 Dec

[ By WebUrbanist in Architecture & Cities & Urbanism. ]

It would be a mistake to characterize Burning Man as merely a festival in the desert. For one week a year, an entire built environment (dubbed Black Rock City) for tens of thousands of residents emerges out of the flat cracked-sand landscape, only to disappear again at the end.

Photographer and author Philippe Glade has catalogued this temporary architecture in rural Nevada extensively on his blog and in a book covering fifteen years of structural ingenuity in one of the most challenging environments on the planet.

By now you have no doubt seen images of outrageous costumes and crazy art cars, but again: there is more to Black Rock City than those sensational elements – there are equally eye-catching and physically-compelling structures made to house and entertain small groups and massive camps.

Consider this deceptively-simple tension structure, for instance, which provides shade but also allows for breezes to pass through, and culminates in a viewing tower at the top – all lightweight, easy to transport and assemble, but robust enough to withstand high-speed desert winds.

Adobe announces updates exclusive to Creative Cloud members

11 Dec

shared:AdobeLogo.png

Adobe has announced CS6 updates that are exclusive to Creative Cloud subscribers. Adobe Photoshop 13.1 offers among other things, the ability to apply Liquify and Lens Blur effects as Smart Objects and use conditional statements when creating Actions. However, these changes are unavailable to those who’ve bought traditional versions of Photoshop CS6, and Adobe has not said when, or even if, ‘perpetual users’ of CS6 will have access to these features. Retina Display support for Mac, also announced today, is available for all users.

Photoshop Elements 7 on Ubuntu GNU/Linux 9.04 x64

11 Dec

I’m a GIMP user. Period. Couple of days ago I’ve got Nikon D60 dslr camera (you can find unboxing clip in my videos) and UFRaw and GIMP could not do what I wanted them to. Instead of using Google to solve this issue, I tried Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 and it worked! Bad news is that I did not manage to do the same with Nikon Capture NX2, which fails to start after installation. Good news is, that even if you do not want to change Photoshop (Elements) you are currently using for (let us say) GIMP, you can still have dedicated photo processing machine which runs Ubuntu 🙂 Since I never used Elements before, I was little bit lost at first as you can see in the video. I had some expirience with older Photoshop versions, so I’ve managed to find my way around in the end. After some thinking about video size and youtube restrictions I’ve decided to record only RAW importing, a little bit of most basic postprocessing, resizing for web and of course, exporting to JPEG file. Remember that I am no professional photographer or Photoshop user in any way, so this was just a demonstration of how well Adobe Photoshop Elements can work under GNU/Linux operating system, NOT a tutorial for photo editing of any kind! Person depicted on a photograph is my neighbor. Photo is taken with his permission, and some version of it can be found on my Flickr account. Do not use it in any way, all rights are reserved. PSE7 trial version for Windows was downloaded from Softpedia. Ubuntu version is 9.04

www.adorama.com AdoramaTV Presents You Keep Shooting, with Bryan Peterson. Join Bryan in the lavender fields of Valensole, France where he shares his technique for creating a dramatic photo by manipulating the ambient light of a dark, stormy sky, while using a flash for contrast. If you have a chance to capture a great photo of a setting that has inclement weather, try using different lighting techniques to bring out the foreground while capturing the visually rich background. This will give you the perfect contrast for a powerful-looking image.
